Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Please note that this applies to content that you've recently added to Susan Sarandon. Please be most careful to be specifically aware of the WP:1RR restriction. TarnishedPathtalk 09:38, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

I agree with @NatGertler: [1], and am concerned that you added similar content to multiple articles. I think it should be reverted from them all, for the reasons given. --Hipal (talk) 16:53, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Are there any BLP articles where such content clearly belongs? --Hipal (talk) 17:19, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Why do you always revert edits on the Pham page?

Ïvana please stop reverting, you are an Argentinian, it has nothing to do with this? Why do you always revert the edited content on this page??? Khanhle29 (talk) 06:27, 27 April 2024 (UTC)

@Khanhle29: My nationality has absolutely nothing to do with the edits I make in Wikipedia and that comment itself can be considered against policy. I edit content based on Wikipedia policies such as this one or this one which I usually cite as a reason for my revert. - Ïvana (talk) 13:40, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Do you understand what you are reverting? You reverted innocently, you really don't know anything about the thing you reverted, the reasons you gave are not related to the content you reverted. This is an open community and you are making it worse in the eyes of many people. Frustrating Khanhle29 (talk) 11:20, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
I hope you give a more reasonable reason for your revert, I feel you are doing this on purpose. Not only me but also many others without a legitimate reason. I'm very disappointed Khanhle29 (talk) 11:28, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
I already mentioned the relevant policies multiple times. Please get familiarized with Wikipedia before attempting to make edits. Thanks. - Ïvana (talk) 13:42, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

Notable People with the surname Kwak.

Hello Ïvana! It has come to my attention that you have been deleting updates related to Kwak Yeonji from tripleS from the Notable People with the surname Kwak page. I just want to tell you that this is not vandalism! Yeonji joined tripleS in 2023 and has made her debut in the same year with the sub unit EVOLutio. With that i want to ask, why is that you keep deleting her from the page?

Have a good day! Vawlen (talk) 16:49, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

@Vawlen: Hi. Entries included in an anthroponymy article should be limited to notable persons. So if an entry does not meet the notability criteria for its own article in the English Wikipedia then it will be removed. - Ïvana (talk) 17:10, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi; at topics related to the Israel-Arab conflict, editors are restricted to one revert every 24 hours: An editor must not perform more than one reverts on a single page—whether involving the same or different material—within a 24-hour period. An edit or a series of consecutive edits that undoes or manually reverses other editors' actions—whether in whole or in part—counts as a revert.

In the past 24 hours you have made two reverts:

  1. 17:33, 9 June 2024 (partial revert of 16:31, 9 June 2024)
  2. 13:49, 10 June 2024 (reverted 13:06, 10 June 2024, among others)

Please self-revert 13:49, 10 June 2024. BilledMammal (talk) 15:03, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

@BilledMammal: Sure, thanks, since the page is so active and the first is a partial revert (I didn't consider it one originally) I didn't notice. I'll revert myself for now. - Ïvana (talk) 15:33, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you; its an easy mistake to make. BilledMammal (talk) 15:35, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Hey, just had a quick question

I see you've deleted my question in the Nuseriat talk page, why is that? Your source didn't really provide an answer. Thanks. Mr manor11 (talk) 20:06, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

@Mr manor11: Pages like that one are considered a contentious topic and as such are subject to restrictions. You can read more about it in WP:A/I/PIA. - Ïvana (talk) 20:50, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Question about reverted edit

Hi,

I saw that you reverted my recent edit on the page for “Rats” by Ghost, in which I mentioned under composition that it contained the “Spöksonat” motif. As a composer myself I thought it was an important piece of information about the track and certainly fit under the category I added it under. My question is, respectfully, why do you feel that this information should not be present in the article?

Thanks, siliconmonday SiliconMonday (talk) 14:16, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

@SiliconMonday: Per WP:BURDEN, which I cited in my revert, the burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution. Unsourced material will be removed. - Ïvana (talk) 18:48, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Question for Svga's french wikipedia

Hi ïvana, since I have seen your contribution to the majority of BTS's wikipedia edits. It has come to my attention that many misinformations about DUI has been uploaded on suga's french page. However, editing has been disabled there. It was impossible to write facts. I was wondering if you had any solution to remove majority of the fallacy?!. It would be so helpful. Looking forward to hearing from you.

sincerely, Bijamikonieditbokoni (talk) 22:51, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

@Bijamikonieditbokoni: Hi! For restricted articles like that one, where you cannot directly edit it, you can always request for changes to be made using the talk page. In this case you could refer to the discussion in Suga's talk page and point to the updated paragraph in the article. I don't know french or the rules over there so I don't feel comfortable participating myself, but you can translate our reasoning and post it there if you want to. - Ïvana (talk) 00:31, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi Ivana, I noticed someone edited Yoongi's main picture on his page to one that does seem appropriate nor represent who he is, would you be able to edit it? Thank you Tibi705 (talk) 03:48, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ïvana, Maybe you know why the single "Fri(end)s" is indicated as an EP on this page? Estyxxxx (talk) 11:23, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

@Estyxxxx: Hi, good catch. I wasn't following that page. I have requested for it to be moved. - Ïvana (talk) 11:52, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you,
I think the categories should be changed within the article and I don't know how to do it. Can you help me? Estyxxxx (talk) 12:02, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
@Estyxxxx: I would wait for the move to be approved first. Once it's moved I can easily clean it up. - Ïvana (talk) 12:09, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

User:Dagoatforuse

Ivana, I don't really understand why you'd go on and warn that user a few times in a row when they're harassing you. Just report to an admin and they'll take care of it. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 01:54, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

@Drmies: Well the first 3 edits were just random vandalism. The 4th was harassment but I wanted to play by the rules and warn them 4 times. I didn't see the last personal attack until that person was blocked. But next time I'll just report them right away. Thank you! - Ïvana (talk) 02:06, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I’m sorry, but I think it’s dishonest and evident of bias that you’re not even willing to seek consensus on the Deif’s talk page. Why are you afraid of open discussion? I actually lost my old password, but I am going to open a new account so I can once again push for accountability and an honest and open dialogue on that page. Wikipedia is not for your individual political bias. Thanks! 2001:B011:E610:FA1D:D95F:8F7A:25E5:B984 (talk) 04:57, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
Learn how WP:ARBECR works. Page has been protected now because of your persistent vandalism. Any further disruptions will result in a block. - Ïvana (talk) 00:55, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
You keep linking that, but point to the specific clause in Arbitration that I violated by seeking editor consensus on the article’s talk page. 2001:B011:E610:DB8D:6579:975B:3EBE:B5E2 (talk) 03:23, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
Non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace only to make edit requests. Extremely easy to understand. WP:BLP is also crystal clear. People are presumed to be living unless a WP:RELIABLE source has confirmed their death; news outlets merely repeating what the IDF states are simply echoing claims without providing independent verification. The burden of proof lies with those making the assertions, not those questioning them. - Ïvana (talk) 04:21, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
So the Israeli government is not a reliable source? Do you hold the American government or other governments to the same standard? The ambiguity of his current status should at least be reflected as it was when he was referred to as “is or was” in the article. 2001:B011:E610:DB8D:21C0:2E05:1A02:7237 (talk) 08:14, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
The Israeli government is a reliable source for their own views and behavior, not when making unverified claims about other parties. And we do hold other governments to the same standard. Unverified claims are not to be taken as truth especially for something as delicate as a BLP. If Hamas confirmed it like they have done with other militants, then it would be a different story. But they haven't, so the burden of proof lies on whoever is claiming Deif is dead. So far no proof has been given, so per our policies he is assumed to be living. And the article talks about this, so there's nothing else we can add at the moment. - Ïvana (talk) 17:33, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

I was hoping someone would come in and resolve that dab. Is that a well-known term in Indian English? Do we need an article, or a wiktionary entry? Valereee (talk) 22:09, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Well-known...yes. But "clean chit" is not used in formal or legal parlance. It's used colloquially and interchangeably with acquittal or exoneration. — hako9 (talk) 23:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

@RachelTensions: Yes, the descriptor should not include a wikilink. Also piped links should not be used for the subject; the wikilink should be the actual article title. - Ïvana (talk) 00:55, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

Israel-Hamas war

Despite your warning https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Israel–Hamas_war&diff=prev&oldid=1248154015 and other editors' concerns, a rogue user has reverted your changes and reinserted the disputed figure given by IDF in the main infobox https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Israel–Hamas_war_infobox&diff=prev&oldid=1248396003 without providing any explanation on the talk page Hu741f4 (talk) 08:22, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

Forensic architecture text.

You have misunderstood what you're calling the talk page consensus. It was not proposed to list the publications as part of the article text, but rather to cite those references as inline citations. Please undo or correct your edit, which really should not have been reinstated, even with modification, once challenged for cause. Thanks. SPECIFICO talk 13:22, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

We already have an ongoing discussion about this, so I would appreciate it if we could keep the arguments in that thread instead of fragmenting the discussion. Thanks. - Ïvana (talk) 19:44, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
My comment here is not about the talk page issue. It's that you appear to have misunderstood the way we attribute content. Please self-revert. @PhotogenicScientist:. SPECIFICO talk 20:35, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
It seems you haven't checked the edit history because I was reverted hours ago. So I'm back to discussing this on the talk page, as we should. Please limit your comments to that discussion. - Ïvana (talk) 20:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Removal of a POV tag in the middle of discussion on Israeli apartheid

In this edit you removed POV tags in the middle of an ongoing discussion regarding neutrality issues in this article. This action is rather disruptive, especially considering that multiple editors have already pointed out the neutrality problems and are in the middle of discussing them, and you have not engaged in the discussion on the talk page at all. Please self-revert. ABHammad (talk) 12:01, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Shouldn't consensus be achieved before adding the tags? I'm not the first person who removed them. The ONUS to get consensus to add new content especially NPOV tags for a contentious topic article is on you, and the ongoing discussion is nowhere near achieving that. You're right in asserting that I didn't participate in the discussion, so I've fixed that. - Ïvana (talk) 13:54, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
No, there is no need for consensus for adding tags. Part of the idea is to indicate that there is an ongoing dispute on this content regarding its neutrality. I'm asking you again to restore them. Thank you. ABHammad (talk) 14:46, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Mmh. Ok, I don't agree, but if this is the way that we are supposed to operate then I'll keep this in mind if I decide to add POV tags in the future. I'll self revert for the sake of avoiding an extra headache since I am already involved in too many discussions. Let's keep talking about it in the talk page then. - Ïvana (talk) 19:03, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Notable Section in Quinault Indian Nation

Hello, @Ïvana. I recently added the Notable section to the Quinault Indian Nation and placed Fawn Sharp as a notable which was undone. Sharp seems to fit the guidelines of WP:NBasic especially as the former president of the National Congress of American Indians and other political appointments. Her BLP, Fawn Sharp, includes multiple reliable sources that support that she is a notable person. If I am mistaken, please let me know how so that I do not make this mistake again.Bcbc24 (talk) 22:55, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

@Bcbc24: Hi, I reverted it because the only addition to that section had no links, ergo no evidence of notability. Also headings should use sentence case per MOS:HEADINGS. I'll apply the necessary changes. Thanks for asking! - Ïvana (talk) 01:12, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
@Ïvana: Thanks. I'll make sure to follow these instructions next time. Bcbc24 (talk) 01:21, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Here is the edit including the source. It is a really relevant article extant needs to be considered. In 1957 the forcible removal of Darug and Gundungurra peoples from Garguree, also known as The Gully, a tract of land in the middle of town occurred. The removal of people from their homes was to build a racetrack.
