Women's History Month Edit-A-Thon 2022
[edit]New list of redlink women politicians from Washington State
[edit]Some redlinks that could be fixed: past women who served in the Washington State Legislature and are therefore presumptively notable per WP:POLITICIAN but are not yet in the encyclopedia. I've also added the years they served and an external link to biographical information from the Legislature's website. Note that the legislature's website includes middle initials, but I've excluded them except as necessary for disambiguation per MOS:NAMES.
Much of the biographical information comes from this book on the Legislature's website, which also has photos, although it appears Washington State government works may not be public domain. Another fantastic resource is: this book from the Legislature. Also worth checking Legacy Washington, where the bios seem to be based partly on the ones in the Political Pioneers book but may be more complete.
Here is a sandbox where I'm working on a stub template for these articles.
Here's another for building out individual articles.
I've bolded entries who served at least six years or also held other office.

Eventually I may put this list in a subpage and add a link to it to the Women in Red list of politics redlists.
Other Women in Red from Washington politics that I came across while working on the list of legislators:
- Joni Earl, the ED and CEO of Sound Transit from 2001 to 2016. on HistoryLink.
To do (YOU are also welcome to do any of this. I won't be offended)

Protected areas of Washington
[edit]- An amazing resource: the USGS Protected Areas Data Viewer.
- State map of public land ownership: [116]
- Comprehensive list of state park property names (as of 2018 or so)
- Inventory of state marine protected areas available starting at page 38 of this WDFW document.
- Update Washington state park pages:
- Merge Iron Horse State Park into Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail.
- Consider moving Klickitat Trail to a state park-named article in light of that status.
- Likewise for Willapa Hills Trail
- Figure out what happened to these parks, no longer listed on the state parks website. Update that article and the template accordingly:
- Lake Lenore Caves State Park (still mentioned on Falls Visitor Center website)
- Upright Channel State Park
- Stretch Point State Park
- Add material, as appropriate, for the retreat centers (done through Camp Delany)
- Update the state forest category in the template above, and the List of Washington state forests, in light of the info on the pages linked from the DNR forest and trust lands site.
- Create stubs for protected areas on the Protected Areas of Washington template that don't already have articles, especially the Washington Natural Areas Program redlinks I'm adding.
- My sandbox for pages in progress.
- Add sections at Mount Si, Tiger Mountain, Cypress Island (Washington), Gedney Island (Washington) (Hat Island NRCA), Table Mountain (Skamania County, Washington), Lummi Island, Klickitat River (Klickitat Canyon NRCA) identifying the NRCAs there.
- Consider moving Dishman Hills to Dishman Hills Natural Resources Conservation Area.
- IF YOU WANT TO HELP with this project, you may have an easier time after reading my post at the WikiProject Washington talk page.
- Find articles for former Washington state parks, both in the navbox and lost elsewhere, and put them in the appropriate navbox subgroup I created. Clues here.
- Add section on National Recreation Trails and names from NRT database.
- An example citation:
<ref name="NRT">{{cite web |url=http://www.americantrails.org/NRTDatabase/trailDetail.php?recordID=816 |title=Ape Cave Trail No. 239 |date=2013-04-23 |accessdate=2014-08-14 |publisher=American Trails}}</ref>
- Trails that don't have pages on Wikipedia (starting alphabetically): Bennington Lake Trail System, Blue Lake, Boulder Cave, Boundary Trail, Cedar Creek Trail, Clearwater and Snake River Trail, Cutthroat Creek, Deception Falls, Domke Lake Trail, Eagle Lake Trail, Fred Cleator Interpretive Trail, Kettle Crest, Lena Lake, Meta Lake, Oak to Wetlands, Pass Creek-Grassy Top, Rainy Lake, Shadow of the Sentinels, Silver Falls, Skookum Flats, Washington Lake Bike Trail, Yakima Greenway
- Add section on National Natural Landmarks and names / links. Also, create stubs for redlinks. Sources:
- Look over protected areas of the United States for other designations to add. Also this state-specific file.
- Go through category:state parks of Washington (state) and move category tag to redirects where main page is not about the park itself
Other WikiProject Washington tasks
[edit]- Expand Everett Massacre
- Add paragraph about Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting to Mount Rainier if consensus supports it.
- Create stubs for high peaks in Washington. For help, lists of 100 highest with 400+ feet of prominence (currently Copper Peak (Washington) (#22) is the highest redlink) and all peaks with 2000+ feet of prominence (currently Round Mountain (Washington) (#8) is the highest redlink). sandbox
- Tag articles in Category:Snohomish County, Washington with the WikiProject template. Done through "A."
- Write an article for groundfrog day
- Spruce up Everett High School (Washington). This article will help.
- Add articles for major fires, and list them on the List of Washington wildfires. In particular, 2012 Table Mountain fires.
- An example of how I'm citing to information derived from NWCC interactive map:
<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.nwccweb.us/interactivemap/index.html?webmap=ed0a7dad32fe4848b20c6f91c74c79ea&extent=-120.9307,48.7896,-120.1046,49.1803 |title=Northwest Large Fire Map 2014 |at=Turn on layer "NW Fire History Perimeters 2000-2013" and click the large orange area at the center. |publisher=Northwest Interagency Coordination Center |accessdate=2014-08-13}}</ref>
- ICS-209 reports: [117]
- Nice picture of Table Mountain fire.
- Work on Seattle? A sandbox I forgot I created: User:W.stanovsky/Seattle sb
- Add photos where requested - Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Washington (state)
Other stuff entirely
[edit]- Add stuff to the encyclopedia as I learn from reading Saving Paradise by Rita Nakashima Brock and Rebecca Ann Parker.
- Create an article for the book? Consider Wikipedia:Notability (books)
- Crucifix
- Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran--specifically the apse mosaic as described at xiv and n.3.
- Gero Cross and environs, xx (foreshadowing generally Ch. 9).
- Wikify the page my uncle and his students made for Capital, Volume I
Generously awarded; proudly displayed
[edit]The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar | |
"The Working Man's Barnstar may be awarded to those who work tirelessly and endlessly on the more laborious or repetitive of Wikipedia tasks"... Nothing better summarizes a thank you for the amount of work you put in at Template:Protected Areas of Washington Cptnono (talk) 07:25, 11 December 2009 (UTC) |
What am I doing here?
[edit]- New articles I've created
- A collection of useful templates because I can never seem to find them easily when I want them.
- Shortcuts to useful guidelines, etc.
