This page includes a listing of policies and guidelines for English Wikipedia. Policy and guideline pages describe Wikipedia's principles and best-agreed practices. Policies are standards that all users should normally follow, while guidelines are meant to be best practices for following those standards in specific contexts. |
This is an ongoing effort to trace the structure of Wikipedia's policies & guidelines.
Wikipedia's policies and guidelines can be roughly divided into five categories:
- Fundamental, establishing the basis of Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines.
- Articles, concerning the content, editing process, style, inclusion criteria, naming conventions, and deletion of articles.
- Community, regulating the conduct and interactions between editors.
- Administration, detailing the policies for various Wikipedia procedures, the enforcement of rules and sanctions, as well as legal matters.
- Miscellaneous, containing mostly technical guidelines for project-internal content, templates, and the Reference Desk.
Remember, the rules are principles. If you have a question regarding a specific rule, or have questions about editing in general, feel free to visit the Teahouse.
