Wikipedia:WikiProject Belgium/Alternate language names
Appearance
This guideline documents an English Wikipedia naming convention. Editors should generally follow it, though exceptions may apply. Substantive edits to this page should reflect consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on this guideline's talk page. |
This is a guideline on including alternate languages than the local name for Belgium-related articles.
- The English name (unless archaic) should take precedence over all other names.
- If there is no English name (which is most cases) use the official local name first.
- If there is a name for this place in the other national language (i.e. Dutch or French), include that also in the lead immediately following the local name.
- Include other languages (e.g. German) and local languages (e.g. West Flemish, Walloon) where appropriate. (Including a West-Flemish name for Liège, for example, is not necessary.)
- Brussels-related articles follow the separate Brussels naming conventions
- These guidelines reflect a consensus in order to reduce disputes.
