How Was I Advertising?

[edit]

I was simply adding more information on the "Spirit Halloween (Store)" article, but you undone my edits because you thought it was Advertising. I don't entirely understand why you did that. Well, I had no intentions of Advertising. All I was doing was providing more information. What's the big idea? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.152.213.83 (talk) 22:07, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

It was listing every single one of their products. That looks very promotional.

Hilary Clinton as Neoconservative

[edit]

You asked the editors to comment, and they haven't said anything in 72 hours. I suggest that the case be closed (neither resolved nor failed) due to failure of the editors to participate, and that they be told to go back to the article talk page, but told that they can refile later if discussion at the talk page is inconclusive. I don't know why they haven't said anything, but things like this sometimes happen at DRN. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:02, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

No, nothing to do with you, but The Wordsmith was actually notified by the OP here. I've made that mistake myself, so I've learned to check talk page history (and/or contributions) to prevent leaving redundant notifications. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 01:49, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

G4S Secure Solutions

[edit]

Hi, I see that you recently made a revert to G4S Secure Solutions with a canned edit summary. There is an ongoing discussion about what info to include in the article related to Omar Mateen. Everyone supports inclusion of some information so far, the issue is how much. Please comment on Talk:G4S Secure Solutions if you have thoughts on this.Dialectric (talk) 15:52, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Can't fix a ping like that

[edit]

Trying to fix a ping like this doesn't work. That edit diffs as +/- text. The software only generates a pings for edits that diff as + text. I know it's natural to try to fix a ping like that, but there are too many cases where +/- modified text shouldn't generate pings, so it doesn't. Alsee (talk) 17:36, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Bolivia

[edit]

If it's trolling, it isn't normal trolling. He was fixing vandalism. Most editors wouldn't ask Talk:Main Page about routine vandalism, but that's what a new editor would do. However, User:Maxie1hoi is a unique case who has behaved like a new editor for a very long time. This is complicated by his bad English, but he says he is from Holland. Perhaps he doesn't know any better. Or, I suppose it could indeed be a unique kind of trolling. For now, I'll answer his question at face value. Art LaPella (talk) 00:19, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

Beyton

[edit]

Thanks for your help on Beyton and its geese. She's at it again - I've tried to work on the article and balance it in a way which reflects what I can source as happening without being over the top in any way. Leroy Homer

[edit]

Now, and for the last time. Somebody keeps modifying the section about Homer's fate when United 93 was hijacked. This or these people, in the effort to make 'official' the cinematographic image of Homer opening the door and being stabbed by the hijackers and that Captain Dahl being the one who shouted "mayday", keep repeating like parrots, sources that don't even talk about such a thing, while they kept cancelling all the more reliable sources from other observations- including the testimony of Homer's wife Melodie, not one of the thousands of far-fetched accounts given by sources like "9-11 America Under Attack" - that Homer was the person who shouted "mayday" on the cockpit voice recorder, and possibly was even alive after the hijacking (notice: I say possibly, and indeed I wrote in the article that Homer's actions are just what his wife believes, while these people use no actual sources and fictional books as facts). They deem all these accounts, including a testimony of Homer's wife, as "untrue", while the only certainly apocryphal accounts are those of Homerjust being killed or that he and Dahl was removed from the cockpit and left in the back of the plane. And if we want to remain in theme of apocryphal accounts, let's talk about the sources (like "9-11 America Under Attack"), to which they desperately cling: it is a book that is completely inaccurate and fictional, that it is worse than any of the conspiracy theories that came in the wake of the tragedy. If you were to click on that source - you would agree it is not needed. Moreover, the other sources (the telegraph and ABC accounts) never mention a word that Homer was stabbed and killed during the hijacking: One more unjustified modify to that section and I will notify them for vandalism. Excuse me for being so rude but this has been repeated for nearly a month and without those people ever making a justification or asking anything, just erasing everything goes against what they state. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.146.99.28 (talk) 21:55, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

My contribution to the Talk page of Lake Chad.

[edit]
I received this message for a post that was neither disruptive or unconstructive. My post was one of information strictly with citation of sources on the subject of the Etymology of Lake Chad. In conclusion to my statements, I mentioned that according to all the available evidence the word is not of Kanuri or Kanembu derivation. It was reported as a Kanuri word on several web sites, but this is not factual. It was also reported as a Kotoko (Chadic - Afroasiatic) word in, at least, one old source, this is also not factual. My post was only informative not disruptive or unconstructive...there was no argument, trolling, or anything other than the sharing of knowledge on the topic. How was my legitimate information disruptive or unconstructive? Here is the message I received:

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Talk:Lake Chad, did not appear constructive and has been or will be undone. It's not a violation of the username policy, and this is a recognized legitimate reason for an alt account (WP:SOCKLEGIT). Now that they've confirmed this is their account, all is well. GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:42, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi ThePlatypusofDoom, I'm sorry about the block; when the account was reported I assumed it was someone who had created it to harass you. Again, I am sorry. Acalamari 22:04, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry for bringing it up; I thought there was a possibility it was a legit alt account, but there was also a possibility it was an impersonation or an attack account. White Arabian Filly Neigh 22:25, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

A removal in such cases is clearly within talkpage guidelines. I am easily confused and hope that you can help clarify something. I was trying to alert a new user to the WP:ARBCC sanctions, and after adding the required template this was generated (automatically, I think, unless you're very quick on the draw). Recent Edit

[edit]

Hi, your decision to undo my edit in Malappuram article was out of misunderstanding. In fact I had not added any new information other than what has been already there until someone moved them to another article. I had to revert the article to its previous state manually due to conflicting edits. Thus it might have appeared to be adding huge new content but in fact it was just a revert. I hope you understand and refrain from making further edits on the same. Thank you--Truebrother (talk) 16:51, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Hey TPoD, just wanted to ask if you would like me to add in some Summary Sections for the other parties to place their opening comments and "ping" them to see if they will respond to you. There seems to have been a mixed bag of notifications, some from Robert, some from Richard, some removed. This is of course, if you aren't planning on closing the case in the next day or two. I understand that some Wikipedia editors are extremely diligent, but I do feel it's rather rude to revert someone's edit while they are still in the process of doing the edit. Ways to improve List of Awards received by Ajith Kumar

[edit]

Hi, I'm KGirlTrucker81. ThePlatypusofDoom, thanks for creating List of Awards received by Ajith Kumar!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Nice!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. KGirlTrucker81 talk what I'm been doing 21:23, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Deep Medi

[edit]

Hi, you said it was a copyright violation, all I was doing was updating the cataloguing of the label, I used no copyrighted material. It is all here, its just updating the release history, there is no way to put it into your own words, that is simply just the release history. it is the same format as used everywhere on wikipedia [1] Jalexlb (talk) 13:03, 20 August 2016 (UTC) Jalex lb

Why? I know of no policy or guideline that says that we have to keep displaying comments that accuse people of being "frustrated Jewish supremacists and French nationalists", which is a clear breach of several policies such as WP:Civility and WP:NPA. As I said in my edit summary, the history is still there if this is needed as evidence. 86.17.222.157 (talk) 19:18, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Second thought - Good point. I was going to archive it. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 19:24, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for reconsidering. I am still very bemused that two editors thought it appropriate to reinstate hate speech to a page after it had been removed. Is there something in policy or guidelines that made you override the obvious ethical considerations? If so that policy or guideline needs to be changed. 86.17.222.157 (talk) 21:06, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, even with insults and vandalism, we tend to want to archive everything on Wikipedia. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 22:17, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Promotional?

[edit]

Sir, you've removed each and every line of a well-cited write-up addition tagging them as PROMOTION inspite of HISTORY and other factual info. The original page was lacking valuable info and was a stub. I worked hard on gathering facts and reputable sources. The latest article after ur edit is non-informative and requires a huge expansion considering a page of an established education board in the country. I won't argue on the fact that the tone may be a bit promo-seeming, but doesn't it when mentioning some accolades or awards and achievements; and also since most of my edit was in the section of achievements it would highly seem so, but it was never my intention to be advertising. I would like you to pls. review the info and if possible guide/frame it, iff. my writing wasn't satisfactory, as the page is important for WP India and WP Education_in_India. Thanks ! Indianwebwiki (talk) 20:32, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

@Indianwebwiki: It was quite promotional. Wikipedia needs reliable sources, and we can afford to be without information if it isn't presented in a neutral, encyclopedic way. Please re-write it. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 20:37, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello, User:ThePlatypusofDoom, can I ask you about a favor? The Oļegs Latiševs article is nominated for deletion. However, I find that the arguments of the supporters of the preservation of the page are very serious. Me, as the author, constantly improve this publication and also am interested in its preservation. Could you be a volunteer (the "closing admin") which will review the article, carefully read the discussion and close it. I would be pleased to receive such support from you, because it is you who gave the green light to this article and believed in me Amatour82 (talk) 16:57, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

@Amatour82: I'm not an admin, so no, I can't. Also, I wouldn't automatically try to keep the article. It looks like consensus is to keep, but I'm not an admin. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 17:36, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, from WP:NAC#AFD 'After an AfD discussion has run for at least seven days (168 hours), it is moved to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old, and experienced non-admins in good standing may consider closing a discussion on that page which is beyond doubt a clear keep'; Whether you consider yourself experienced enough, and whether, you consider it to fulfill the criteria, is of course up to you. Just FYI. Muffled Pocketed 18:20, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
@Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: Okay, I'll try it. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 18:23, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

POD, I suggest you reverse your close and relist this. Amatour82 created the article and they requested you close the discussion, particularly because you accepted the AFC. I consider this borderline canvassing. This is a pretty involved close and I see it as a bad faith attempt on the part of Amatour82 to game the system and keep the article. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 00:15, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

@Lemongirl942: I agree that this was borderline canvassing, but consensus clearly is for keeping the article. I'll ask another editor to review my close. I'm not sure about bad faith, right now I'll AGF. I don't think there was any bad intent, it was probably due to being a newbie. I was a bit involved, but I really don't think I'm too involved (I try to be neutral and have no opinion on articles after I accept them). ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 00:20, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
  • @Lemongirl942: (Non-administrator comment) Hey, I was asked on IRC to have a look. For what it's worth, in my opinion, closure looks good; consensus looks clear to me. I don't think an AfC reviewer is "involved" for the purpose of closing relevant discussions, and even so, asking for reversal of closure looks to be needless bureaucracy unless you actually think consensus wasn't properly read. @Amatour82: Lemongirl942 is correct that it is, at minimum, in bad taste to canvass a close like this, and please don't do this again. Thanks for your contributions. Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 00:42, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Oh, I'm fine with the close decision (FWIW I would have closed keep as well). My concern was more about the process itself - the fact that an AFC reviewer was particularly asked (that too with "I would be pleased to receive such support from you, because it is you who gave the green light to this article and believed in me"), is in bad taste. I have never observed canvassing for an AfD close on Wikipedia and I certainly don't want to encourage this. Amatour82 is a new editor, so I will assume good faith that they simply didn't know the rules and they will just learn from this discussion. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 00:55, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Can someone also remove the deletion template on the article and add the afd-notice on the talk page? --Lemongirl942 (talk) 00:56, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
@Lemongirl942: Can you add the afd notice? I'm logging off. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 01:06, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and added the past AfD template to the talk page. clpo13(talk) 04:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for that! --Lemongirl942 (talk) 13:38, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Uneconomic Growth

You reverted an edit I made that removed irrelevant content from the article on Uneconomic growth. I know a lot about the subject, and while the content might be appropriate somewhere else in wikipedia, it has very little to do with the article. Please revert your edit. Your user page

[edit]

Hello, ThePlatypusofDoom. You might not have noticed this, but an inexperienced editor edited your user page here. I think he was trying to contact you, and was under the mistaken impression that leaving a message on your user page was the right way to do that. I'll leave it to you to decide what to do about it. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 23:16, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

@FreeKnowledgeCreator: Thanks for telling me! ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 11:08, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello, PlatypusofDoom. I noticed the BotW page recently came under a vandalism attack, and you reverted an IP editor using Huggle. However, you actually reverted an IP editor who was trying to repair the damage done by another IP editor. They just simply didn't seem to know about the undo button. I would've linked the specific revert you did, but I'm on mobile and it would be kinda tricky to do that. I know it's the first one you did during that vandalism attack. This is just a note to be more careful next time when trying to revert vandalism. -- Gestrid (talk) 15:20, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
