User:Paradoxsociety/Projects
I use this page to list and organize current projects and goals that I am (maybe) working on. I returned from a long Wikipedia hiatus in April 2020 and am still working on cleaning up my excessive list of ideas. Your thoughts and feedback are always welcomed on my talk page.
Things I'm (probably) currently focusing on
[edit]- I have noticed that pages about data warehousing, data lake, and other data management related topics seem to be not well-curated or organized enough. Since 2020 I have been considering starting a brand new WikiProject around data management / data engineering / data warehousing.
- I have started a draft proposal here: User:Paradoxsociety/Projects/Wikiproject proposal: Data management
- I am targeting January 2023 to formally publish this proposal to the community.
- Potentially searching for contributors to the data warehouse template as a starting point.
- New Pages Patrol - Occasionally active.
- WikiProject Notability - Interested in clearing the backlog with AfD nominations.

To-Do Queue
[edit]General Queue
[edit]Determine how I can participate in current anti-vandalism efforts, figure out what has changed since last time I tried(done)- Handle WP:MTR and general rewrite of Elk Grove Village, Illinois
- use Naperville, Illinois as a model of how to improve
- comment on the extinction of native northern illinois elk that elk grove was originally named for (https://www.elkgrove.org/about/history) (https://www.inhs.illinois.edu/resources/inhsreports/sep-oct96/elk/)
- split up the lead section? move the elk commentary out of the lead maybe
- find a better photo than the boring aerial view of the industrial park
- disambig w/ Elk Grove Township?
- Translate https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_the_Rats_and_Wolves
- WP:AWB Assess AutoWikiBrowser, see if it's still something I should/would use.
- Dig into Lupin's Anti-Vandal Tool to see if it's still working. If it's not, decide whether to abandon it entirely, or see if there's a unique use case not provided by other actively-maintained tools. Contribute to active development of the tool if needed.
- Review my ancient editing queue and photo queue below, decide what to actually do or abandon
- User:Paradoxsociety/sandbox/Mariana Grajales Women’s Platoon/TODO
- Several Chicago architecture pages need help including Chicago Stock Exchange, Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse. Check on other adjacent buildings. Federal Plaza may need its own article or redirect.
- Rewrite this article / run it through copyvio check William 'Eternity' Tipping
- Improve Italian beef - get it to GA status??
- I have drafts scattered across my userspace and I need to clean them up / put them in the same spot
- Rename and get to GA status Roads and expressways in Chicago
- Revise OnDeck Capital to reflect 2020 acquisition by Enova International
New Pages Patrol Queue
[edit]- Follow up on this thread by verifying that the documentation on the NPP training pages clarify this point.
Things I'm wondering about
[edit](if you have any thoughts on these, please feel free to open a discussion on my talk page. this is just me thinking out loud.)
- As a software developer, I'm a big fan of git for version control. Coming back to actively editing Wikipedia has made me think about this quite a bit. Wikipedia has its own version control system which seems to be approximately the same it was ~15 years ago when I started editing. There's a page I want to make major edits on right now, but there's no way (that I know of) to check out a "branch" or something along those lines and work on the content alone, so that I don't have to worry about a "merge conflict" (edit conflict) until I'm ready to deploy (publish) my changes to production (the live version of the article). Is there some way to automatically pull the live version of the article down onto my local computer to make edits and then deal with any merge conflicts in a git-like fashion? Would such a tool be widely useful if I invested the time into building it? Is anyone else working on a tool like this? Any and all comments appreciated (again, please leave those on my talk page).
- Another software development related thing: articles that are clearly self-promotional autobiographies should be easily caught or flagged at a decent rate based on some sort of NLP / textual analysis. Is there a bot that already does this sort of flagging focused on new articles? Can I get notified by this bot any time someone creates a biographical page that has this giveaway style of self-promotion? (thought inspired by Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kryss_Shane)
- When vandals edit from a mobile device, does the interface adequately notify them when they get warned on their talk page?
Mysteries from French Wikipedia
[edit]French Wikipedia has a large page called "Vigne" that does not appear to have a direct English Wikipedia equivalent, despite the fact that it translates to "Vine" in English. The English Wikipedia page Vine has the equivalent article Plante grimpante], which literally translates to "climbing plant" but auto-translates to "vine". I am having a hard time determining if there could be an English Wikipedia page to link Vigne back to. It seems like it should either be linked or translated given the fact that the French article is so huge. (Noted when copyediting Nissan-lez-Enserune.)
Things I've learned from French Wikipedia
[edit]Someone just replied to a question I asked on a talk page there, and I noticed the indented replies have this really nice formatting with some light coloration to help distinguish the level of indentation for each subsequent reply. Why don't we do this on English Wikipedia or at least make it an option?
