Any good proxies?
Oshwah, do you know about any good proxies that I can use for IRC? SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 18:02, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi SuperGoose007! Are you perhaps referring to an IRC bouncer? I personally don't use one, but I know many that do. They typically use ZNC as their bouncer (just google it - you'll find it). You can also refer to this resource for a list of good bouncers, software, and other tools. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:49, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Have there been any major incidents where a Wikipedian had been DDoS'd while using IRC? SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 19:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- SuperGoose007 - Not that I'm aware of, but trolls will be trolls, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's happened before. If having your real IP address displayed on IRC is a concern for you, I'd either use a VPN before connecting, or consider applying for a cloak. I use a cloak on Wikipedia's freenode servers, which hides your IP address when you connect and disconnect. I would apply for a cloak and use it - it's the best way to hide your IP address, and limit your risk of forgetting to connect through your VPN and accidentally exposing your IP address when you connect. Keep in mind that I've heard that the application process can take quite some time - I think someone said that it was over a month until they received one after applying. I'd apply now so that you can get yourself started with that process. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions, and I'll be happy to do so. I'll be great to see you on there! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:51, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- @SuperGoose007: IRCCloud is also another option for a client. I personally use that one. --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:51, 6 September 2020 (UTC) (talk page stalker)

USS Franklin (CV-13)
Hi Osh, can you look at USS Franklin (CV-13), and see about some semi-protection? An IP hopper keeps making changes to cited text based on original research, and refuses to cite reliable sources. In addition, its latest summary is a bit offensive, but not worthy of a revdel. BilCat (talk) 22:53, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi BilCat! I have a much easier solution than protecting the article - I went ahead and blocked 2A02:8108:49BF:F01C::/64 for one week. That should stop the IP hopping and the addition of poorly sourced content to the article. Let me know if he pops up again and I'll be happy to take care of it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:55, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Herbert Hoover
Hi, a request has been made at WP:RFPP, but could you please go ahead and semi-protect Herbert Hoover? The page has been viciously attacked with IP-hopping vandalism and the previous protection, which was one year in length, expired a very short time ago. The page, which has been vandalized consistently for more than a year despite multiple protections, is currently pending changes protected but given the vandalism I don't think PC will work. Indefinite protection may be called for. Joshonian (talk) 02:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Want to write about a person Named Bibhuti B Jha Prominent editor Jhaji Bhagalpur wale (talk) 04:53, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Jhaji Bhagalpur wale! Thanks for leaving me a message here. A page that will help you with this is Wikipedia's my first article help page. I would use the articles for creation process, as it will allow you to create an article in the draft space. This will allow you all the time that you need to expand the article and finish it, then have a reviewer assist you and move the article into the mainspace (where articles are located). Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be very helpful to you. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if you have any questions after reading through those help pages, and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:22, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Germantown, MD wiki entry without source
Hello, Oshwah!
In relation to the "Germantown Maryland" page under "Expansion," (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Germantown,_Maryland&oldid=971919571) I did mean to have a entry without a source, I was having problems with the link working. I was using the sourse: https://www.archives.gov/files/research/military/vietnam-war/casualty-lists/md-alpha.pdf by the United States Archives on page 47 and 53. Is this source and what I added to the wiki to your liking?

- "A cats paw" - At first glance, I don't see any red flags with the reference. This content guideline page will provide you with help and instructions on how to cite your source. Please let me know if you have any questions after reading thought it, and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message and for letting me know about the edit. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, again!
- I have reviewed the article, and I have figured out my mistake. I apologize, I am very new to Wikipedia. What should I do now? Attempt to edit the page again with a correct source, or is there another way?
- Thank you,

- Hi "A cats paw"! No worries; I understand that you're new, and mistakes are going to be completely expected. We assume good faith on Wikipedia - especially with new users. Sure, go ahead and edit the article again and add the content with your reference. Include an explanation in the edit summary. Let me know if you continue to have any issues. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:14, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

- "A cats paw" - It looks fine to me. The content you added is displaying properly, and the reference you cited is listed in the "references" section at the bottom of the article. Do a search through the latest revision of the article, and you should see it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:01, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Hey Oshwah. There seems to be a dispute at South Park, as Dan Wescher insists on making nonconsensual changes to the introduction. On the article's talk page and edit summaries, he repeatedly claims that he does not understand WP:CON, ignores, mocks, and posts other nonsense on my own talk page such as this. Regards, QuestFour (talk) 18:02, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi QuestFour! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding the ongoing issues on the South Park article. I'll start a discussion on the article's talk page and ping you both in it so that you two can participate. Just remember to be careful; the edit history of this article shows that between July 20 - July 25, you and Dan Wescher were engaging in edit warring by reverting each other in a back-and-forth manner. Keep note that the three-revert rule is a bright-line rule; it doesn't define edit warring and when someone has or has not engaged in that behavior at all - it's a rule that provides users with a line that, when crossed, will almost certainly be handled as edit warring in nearly all cases. I just don't want to see you get sucked into that pitfall and get blocked for it. ;-) Keep a look out for a ping notification soon. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:48, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
The post here
Quick thing, I never made this edit, so it may have been from a VPN. I'm notifying you this since I have a Wikipedia account and I don't want anyone who check IPs to assume I was the vandal. 67.80.180.218 (talk) 00:34, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! Thanks for letting me know. I recommend using your account to edit Wikipedia, as you won't run into any issues with edits made using your current IP address that weren't made by you. This is a common occurrence - especially for public or shared networks, or IP addresses that switch hands often (DHCP or dynamic assignment). Just disregard the warning if it wasn't you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:17, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Слыш, мандаWOSHка соронбаевская, ты зачем запретил свободное редактирование COVID-19 pandemic in Kyrgyzstan? Что, правда не нравится, мразь ГэБэшная? Мало людей загубили за прошлый месяц? 185.66.253.38 (talk) 17:58, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! I'll do my best to respond from what I translated from your message. Nobody is "banned" from editing the COVID-19 pandemic in Kyrgyzstan article. The article is simply semi-protected from editing, meaning that editing is restricted from users who do not have a Wikipedia account or users who have an account that isn't confirmed or auto-confirmed. Instead, you just need to make an edit request on the article's talk page and describe exactly what needs to be changed, where, and what it should be changed to. Another Wikipedia editor will review your request and make the appropriate changes for you (assuming no issues are found). Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:43, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Re: "Domain_hack" wiki-page
Hi Oshwah,
I just received a message saying my edit of the wikipage "Domain_hack" was reverted because it contained a suspicious link.
The edit that I submitted was:
"On the 8th April 2020, a new hobbyist website, Nami.ng was launched - listing short single-word domain hacks currently in personal or business use, as well as those used either for redirection, or as a domain shortener by larger corporations.
Could you please help out on how to make the edit successfully.
In all transparency, yes, it is my project, but it is also highly relevant to the topic. Would be happy to have the link in the references, and take out the direct link from the article.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thank you in advance, and hope you are keeping safe and healthy.
Alex

- Hi there! Thanks for the message! The best page to refer to is Wikipedia's policy on external links and when they can and can't be used. I felt that the section you added here read more like an advertisement for this website and that it wasn't directly relevant or related to the article subject. This is why I removed the content. Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing the policy page on external links, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:29, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) Hi Eng Mohammed Hamdy, and thanks for leaving me a message regarding the draft pages you created. I'm sorry if the result of the reviews of these drafts have frustrated you; we try our best to give new users as positive and smooth of a transition to Wikipedia as possible. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work that way - especially with the number of policies and guidelines that we have. The main reason that your drafts were declined was because they didn't appear to meet Wikipedia's guidelines on notability. Notability is what establishes the difference between what article subjects should have their own article on Wikipedia, and which ones don't. Before you create any more draft articles, it's important that you understand what notability is and how it's established before you spend a bunch of time for it to potentially be wasted. Please let me know if you have any more questions after reviweing the new user tutorial and the notability guidelines, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:46, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Marita Lorenz Daughter with corrections
Hello, I need for History sake to correct you....you are speaking of my Mother Marita Lorenz as if you know her. I am Marita Lorenz daughter Monica. Thank you for taking time to mention her but correction is needed. Jennifer Lawrence no longer has rights. I do as the oldest child AND DNA proven child of former President Marcos Perez Jimenez of Venezuela. There is no proven fact that she has a child with Fidel Castro but I believe she does. Marita also has a son named Mark Lorenz.
Thank your for correcting this. Sincerely, Monica Perez Jimenez — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:A5C6:6600:5973:DCE:8503:8026 (talk) 00:51, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! Unfortunately, you indicate that you have a conflict of interest with the article subject, and you're adding content based off of original research instead of supporting the content with reliable sources. These are the reasons that your changes to this article is not appropriate. We do not encourage editors to modify articles if they have a conflict of interest with the article subject. Please focus on contributing to articles where no such conflict exists. This assures that all content on Wikipedia is written to reflect a neutral point of view. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Thank you for understanding. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:58, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Don Lemon
Thanks for putting the autoconfirmed protection on the article about Don Lemon. I actually thought that would be a better choice for this article, but wasn't sure how to request it. That silly IP doesn't understand the definition of insanity, that's for sure. ----Dr.Margi ✉ 05:32, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Drmargi! No problem! You can request pending changes protection of articles at RFPP just like you can for semi protection. The reason I applied pending changes protection instead of semi protection was due to the frequency of the edits being made, and the fact that pending changes protection can be applied for a longer duration than semi protection (since pending changes protection allows editing by anonymous users and new accounts; they just require review). This will allow legitimate edits by these types of users to be made to the article while keeping the disruption out. Perfect way to handle this. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:47, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- That;s good to know! I really like pending changes protection for these situations because it stops a nuisance IP in their tracks without punishing good IP editors. I'm not confident that this one will stop any time soon, unfortunately. Best! ----Dr.Margi ✉ 07:18, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- Drmargi - You're likely right, but only time will tell. The nice thing about protection is that it can be easily extended if it expires and if shenanigans continue. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:07, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Mass rollback needed
Oshwah, hope you are doing well. If you're still online and have a little time to spare, there's a newer editor who just did mass amount of page moves that are unjustified and should all be rolled back.

Hello I'd like to bring one point to your attention, I'm being vilified on the admin page, but editors are making remarks directed at me which read "My personal belief is that the world would be much better off if Christianity did not and never existed..." and that's ok. If I'm gonna get blocked that I get blocked, but there is no doubt that such comments are inherently insensitive and bias. --E-960 (talk) 16:21, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Talk Page Protection
Hi Oshwah, you might have seen my request yesterday at WP:ANI and I was just wondering when it would be appropriate to have my talk page protected. Maybe it might not be necessary yet, (well, it could be), but I was just wondering, given the nature of my counter-vandalism work, when would that be appropriate? Now or when it gets worse? Best, P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 21:42, 11 August 2020 (UTC).
- Hi P,TO 19104! Thanks for the message! I've never requested semi-protection for my user talk page before. When my user talk page gets semi-protected, it's always because another admin happens to stroll by while it's being hammered with a high number of abusive edits. My user talk page is being kicked and beaten so badly and frequently, that they just apply semi protection to the page without any discussion. :-) That being said, if the number of abusive and harassing edits on your user talk page get to a level to where it's happening at a very high rate and by numerous IP trolls and for a length of time that becomes distracting and interferes with your ability to contribute, I don't see a problem with asking for it. There's no "line" or "requirement" for how bad things have to get before you can request protection. There are a lot of variables that could make this harassment more severe than that harassment. Don't worry about it too much... If it gets to the point where it's actually disrupting your ability to contribute effectively, just request it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:25, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Unwarranted accusations of vandalism
Why did you accuse me of vandalism to Australian megafauna? I explained the reasons for every edit I made to that article, if you care to look at the history page!
For example, the marsupial lion is listed as two different weights. It can't be both of them. All the additions and corrections I made are valid ones. I'd like to know immediately why you did this, because I don't like being accused of a crime I didn't commit! Therefore, I'm asking you nicely that you restore it to what it was before.Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 02:33, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Page moves and redirects
Hi, Oshwah,
It's been a while. I see that you corrected a lot of bad moves this afternoon. In the future, when you move a page back to its original location after a bad move, could you leave a redirect?
For each page that is moved, without a redirect, there are often page redirects that now become broken links which are deleted by a bot (see User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects). But if you leave a redirect at the "wrong" location, the bots will redirect the redirects to the correct location. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 04:03, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Liz! Oh my god! Long time no see! How the heck are you?!! I hope you're doing well and that your health has been good. I know that you were going through some things, and I'm glad to see you back. Hmm... so maybe I'm just confused. I checked out the link to AnomieBOT that you gave to me... Are what's listed on that page a bunch of redirects that pointed to what were the original article names before that user changed them? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this; if the user moves a page, the original page is now a redirect to the new one. But if I move it back and don't leave a redirect - I'm assuming that the redirects to what was the original page name get modified to point to the location of the new article name? If this is the case, then I understand how this could break things, as they're now pointing to the abyss of nothingness. My thought in not leaving a redirect was to restore things to the way that they were before the ridiculously bad moves were performed. This is why I did not leave redirects - they weren't there before the move, I felt that they didn't need to exist after the corrections were performed. Is this what I'm looking at on that list? I'm just trying to understand what I broke by just moving the page back without leaving cookie crumbs. I thought that leaving redirects would be pointless, and just result in having a bunch of unused redirects sitting around.... Ugh, the complexity of things and what I must consider when I make fixes... I understand; I guess I didn't think about this or consider this as a possibility when I decided to undo the page moves and not leave redirects behind. I thought it would be messy... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
1619 Project is a conspiracy theory
Should all of the articles listed in the Conspiracy Theory category also be edited to reflect this same "neutral" point of view? Can we list Flat Earth Theory as a real theory instead of a conspiracy theory? How about this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reptilian_conspiracy_theory The title of the article itself is not neutral. It asserts the Reptillian overlords are just a conspiracy theory, and not real. How is this "neutral"?
The "1619 project" is already listed as History Revisionism, and historians are highly critical about the claims made by the 1619 Project. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/12/historians-clash-1619-project/604093/
The author of the 1619 project is also known for spreading other conspiracy theories: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/1619-project-author-apologizes-for-fanning-conspiracy-theory-that-government-agents-using-fireworks-to-destabilize-blm-movement/
The claims made by the 1619 project are not based on historical data, but instead around ideological agenda. The United States of America was objectively, according to all recorded history and data, not founded in 1619. So to claim it was, is false. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.52.12.240 (talk) 16:49, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! I'm honestly not too knowledgeable or versed on this particular article subject, so I don't come to you here as an expert of any kind. I just saw that you made this edit to The 1619 Project changing the article subject's lead paragraph that labeled it as "an ongoing project" to "a conspiracy theory", and I felt that your edit and the content changed reflected your opinion. I advise starting a discussion on the article's talk page if you believe that this content should be modified. This will allow community input and a decision to be made by consensus. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:58, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

On the Pacific Palisades update: Pacific Palisades has the 5th highest per capital income in the County, and is around 81% White according to the LA times mapping LA project. These are notable facts worthy of inclusion. No one is making any sort of judgement good or bad about the area by including that information. Nearby neighborhoods Bel Air, Los Angeles, and Brentwood, Los Angeles include this information. If it was a matter of tone, that should be edited, but as for content, the data should be included as it is in other nearby neighborhoods. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.157.79.79 (talk) 19:51, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! Your edit here labels the Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles as "wealthy", which isn't neutral. Your explanation here stating that the Pacific Palisades has the 5th largest capital income in the country, and that 81% of people living there are white - is completely irrelevant. First, why would having a white population of 81% have anything to do with wealth? You assume that, because mostly white people live there, that it's "wealthy"? Sure, having the 5th largest capital income in the United States is significant, but you define that as "wealthy"? What exactly is "wealthy"? One person's definition of "wealthy" varies very radically from another person's definition of "wealthy", and this is why adding that term causes a negative impact on the article's content in regards to being written to reflect a neutral point of view. This is the reason that I reverted the edit you made to the article. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:06, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
What I put down was in the reference itself, I just added in more information from it. If you check the "reflections" reference itself, the two pieces of information that I added in are also in there. Around the part talking about his two grandmothers that had an impact on his life, he says that they were both descended from plantation and slaveowners, and that one of them was the progenitor of Brown's Town, the town he grew up in.108.54.158.204 (talk) 20:05, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! Thanks for letting me know. I apologize for the confusion and for any inconvenience that my reversion of your change may have caused upon you. So long as it's referenced, I'm okay with it. I just didn't see you provide one, and that was the reason for reverting your edit. Feel free to add the content back to the article if you wish to do so. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:09, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

I left the reason why I made the edit. I moved he's a cancer survivor to be earlier in the paragraph because it came from the same source as the other sentence. The source was primary and had a note saying a better source needed. You do realize that you managed to re-revert yourself? [1] You might want to check your settings or whatever. --Calton | Talk 14:41, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- Calton - I did that on purpose. After reverting, I noticed that the content I restored was describing the article subject as a "black supremacist and black nationalist terrorist organization," so I reverted my reversion and took it back off. It was (supposed to be) a temporary resolution to the problem until I could find a revision further back. The revision I found and reverted to apparently didn't save... Not sure how that happened... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:39, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

- Calton - Maybe my response above wasn't clear, and for that I apologize. Let me clarify: I restored what I believed to be content removal from the article that had an inaccurate edit summary with the edit. After restoring that content, I realized what it said, and realized that the removal was, in fact, legitimate. I then purposefully reverted my last edit to hide the content again until I could find a revision further back on the article's history page to fix it. I did not intentionally restore that content knowing that it contained that vandalism. I had just not noticed until after I reverted the original edit that the user was removing vandalism. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:44, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Sure, but given everything that's going on, that "goof" I made could've upset a lot of people, and that's not okay on my part. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:55, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

- Hi there! Your edit here changes the term "Capture of Berwick" to "Sack of Berwick", which is different than the article's title. This is why I reverted it. Why are you changing the term to be different than the article's title? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:08, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- So by the way I am not calling you a Holocaust denier, or Wikipedia, but somebody has turned what should be called the sack of Berwick into the capture of Berwick, I cam not understand the inhumanity of using such a term, it is like something out of a Hollywood movie about a callous imperialist, who does not care about the massacre of civilians, to call a event where thousands of civilians were killed, the capture, is frightening, so that is why I changed it, it should be the sack of Berwick, not the capture as the term capture means nothing, compared to what the event was, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.238.109 (talk) 22:19, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what would make "Capture of Berwick" such an offensive term compared to "Sack of Berwick", but I appreciate the clarification. Hello. This discussion was closed before I'd a chance to ask a question. I was wondering if this user is now banned per WP:3X, due to

If so, where does one note such a thing? Given their behaviour, I somehow doubt that they'll be giving up, and I'd like this to be clear for all involved. Thanks. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 07:41, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi BlackcurrantTea! Thanks for the message, and I apologize for closing the discussion before you had a chance to ask it there. So, according to the policy, if the user is indefinitely blocked for any reason, and is found to be engaging in instances of sock puppetry after the block, and on two or more occasions (meaning two or more separate attempts to circumvent their block by creating accounts), the user would effectively be banned from the project. Looking at the timeline of everything: Pillow4 (the apparent sock master) was created on August 3. Pillow6 was created on August 6. Quilt1 was created on August 10. The accounts started being blocked on August 10, with the master account, Pillow4, being blocked on August 11. Pillowquilt was created on August 14 (after the initial indefinite blocks occurred), and was blocked the same day. Assuming that no other accounts are discovered, Pillow4 (at the time of this writing) is not effectively site-banned per WP:3X. They're on "strike two"; they've been indefinitely blocked, and they created a sock puppet account after the initial block occurred on one occasion. If the user does this again, they will be site-banned per WP:3X. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:50, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation. Their editing style, and the subject areas in which most of their edits take place, make tidying up after them more difficult and time-consuming than other socks whose work I've dealt with. - BlackcurrantTea - No problem; always happy to help! :-) Oh, trust me, I know how you feel... I've had to deal with some very nasty and very extensive cleanup after some instances of sock puppetry and abuse. Someday, the tools and resources that we'll have in order to streamline the cleanup process and make it easier will improve and become available. Personally, I'd just be happy to see the "undo" feature expanded so that we can revert page moves on-the-fly and without having to manually move pages back. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:28, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Article "Eli Schechtman"
Hi, Oshwah! I believe that there is no need to delete Eli_Schechtman_1947.jpg, which confirms his participation in the active army during the Second World War in Soviet Union. Besides, I have problems with all my pictures all the time. I am requesting permission to use family photographs and published book covers. Since "ping-pong" with the reviewer takes a lot of time, and the pictures do not have the status "in the process of checking", the pictures disappear and my problems grow! Thank you! Wiki82esh (talk) 15:24, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Wiki82esh! I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about. Can you help me out with context? Did I participate somewhere or do something involving this image? I'll be happy to help if you have questions or need my assistance - just let me know. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:22, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Revert on Build (game engine)
Hi there, I noticed that you reverted changes by an IP on Build (game engine) and it does not appear clear to me why you reverted these edits and placed a notice on the IP's talk page that it was unconstructive. The edits appear to be adding content with sources. TribunalMan (talk) 01:47, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- TribunalMan - Oh snap. I saw that content was removed and replaced, but looking at the history of the edits made to the article, you are correct - they appear to be legitimate. Bobby White
Hi,
Just curious why you deleted my edit of the wikipedia entry for "Bobby White" for not providing a reliable source. I included the front page NY Times story as the source. See: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/15/us/politics/basketball-cop-gainesville-police.html
I hope the NY Times is considered a reliable source. The Times story even includes a link to the dramatic video.
Fortunately, someone else has now reintroduced this new disturbing information on "Bobby White" and neither you or anyone else has deleted it yet. Please do not do so. I can provide the video ... or you can just go the NY Times story I cited as my source and find the video.
Here is the link to your edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bobby_White&oldid=973215504

- Hi there! Thanks for the message and for pointing this out to me. I think I missed it because the edit you made adding the URL was in a previous edit, not the edit that I was looking at where you added more content to the article. The URL was simply listed in the content instead of referenced with <ref></ref> tags or templated with the {{cite}} template. Either way, I apologize for missing that and for reverting your edit. I'm happy to hear that the content was updated nonetheless. Please let me know if you have questions or if I can assist you with anything else. I'll be happy to do so. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:59, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

User:Wx413nseu8
Hi Oshwah,
Three years ago, you erroneously blocked me for 21 hours. After three long years, I'd like to call in a favor from you as recompense :). Could you take a look at the account User:Wx413nseu8? Particularly this edit, wherein Wx413nseu8 gives bakalava to User:ElliotR1. [REDACTED - Oshwah]
I'm not really sure what to make of Wx413nseu8. Besides the aforementioned edit, Wx413nseu8's edits seem to all be benign or value-neutral. I'd like to assume good faith and say Wx413nseu8 was just tesing out the wikilove buttons, but, realistically, you wouldn't stumble onto ElliotR1's user page without knowing who he is, and, ya know… Anyway, I'm hoping you could take a look and take appropriate action.
Thanks! userdude 07:32, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi UserDude! Oh boy... I apologize for the error that I made three years ago. I was somewhat of a "new" admin at the time; I hope you believe that I've gained much more experience since then. :-) Yes, I will absolutely look into this. Thank you for the message and for bringing this to my attention. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:21, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- UserDude - I don't see anything that's actionable here. While the wikilove is certainly something that raises a brow, I don't see anything else that I would consider actionable. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:39, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Continued edit warring behavior from IP
Oshwah, just letting you know that the IP editor at 86.174.124.67 that you recently blocked for edit warring a few days ago has continued their pattern of edit warring at Joe Mantegna, though they are now at 86.174.124.32 (as well as making petty edits like this and filing frivolous ANI reports).
I'm not an Admin, but in my opinion this editor has behavioral issues that may merit further blocks. FWIW. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 23:36, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Huggle
How do I update huggle on ubuntu 20.04 LTS? --Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 01:22, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thegooduser - You'll need to download the new version, remove the old version from Linux, and put the new version in its place in your Linux directory. I've used Huggle on Linux a long time ago; it's most likely not an installer, but the program files contained in a tar.gz compressed file. That's fine - just extract the content, remove the old version, put the new version in its place. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:23, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

- Thegooduser - I would absolutely not "play with malware" or "play with tech scammers" in any environment unless you absolutely know what you're doing and understand all of the risks that come with doing so. Are you going to let a tech scammer connect to this "workstation" with your real IP address? How are you making sure that all of your information is masked and can't be tied to you? How are you going to make sure that any malware that you "play with" is completely contained and has absolutely no ability to access your information, transmit your IP address, or use your workstation to spread itself to others or to engage in malicious activity on the internet? These are questions that you probably haven't thought of, nor asked yourself. Again, is it really worth the risk? Hi, can you please block 51.241.81.52? He has made numerous personal attacks directed at multiple editors and no one seems to notice the report at WP:AIV. They have been blocked just yesterday for similar behavior. Deleting their contributions maybe necessary. Thanks, ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 01:37, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Nkon21! I apologize for letting your message go so long without a response from me. Had I seen it at the time that you left it, that user would've definitely been blocked for their behavior. I'm sorry that it went on and that I was so late in replying to you. Should you run into an issue like this again, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to take care of it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:54, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

This is a user that was recently blocked for edit warning, and has been cautioned by you, myself, and others for a variety of other things including incivility. Recent additions include canvassing a not-particularly good photo across a number of articles in which either (1) it's not a strong representation of the subject or (2) there are already plenty of better photos. Do you think this is subtle trolling, WP:CIR, or me overthinking it? (Upon further review, it looks like quite a few of their edits since the most recent block are questionable; not blatant vandalism, but not constructive either).OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:26, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Ohnoitsjamie! Please accept my apologies for the late reply to your message here. I don't know how I managed to miss your message and let it fall through the cracks like that... I looked at the contributions that the user has made, and while I wouldn't call it... "trolling", I would definitely call the edits disruptive and the behavior by the user defiant - especially when I see this after the user believed that he/she was blocked indefinitely. The user might think that he/she is making positive edits, but what I also feel (again, based off the user's edits) they're definitely willing to resort to disruptive behavior to push their edits - such as when the user repeatedly reverted your changes again and again... The fact that this user is currently blocked and has a block history doesn't surprise me, and I think that the best move going forward is to try and educate them, but stand firm when they push back and try and revert their changes. Stuff like this shows me that they're defiant and don't care about the rules. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:51, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah, can you (or and admin watcher) semi-protect my talk page for a week? I may need extended protection eventually, but we'll see how this works for now. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 18:52, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Glitch in the matrix
Hi Oshwah, hope all is well. I was wondering if you had a minute for some technical questions? (That wasn't one of them. ) This edit strikes me as the kind of vandalism that usually is almost immediately ClueBotted, Huggled, RedWarned, Battlefielded, Stikied, or otherwise reverted... is it odd that it got through? Is there a way to see the ORES score for a particular edit? And did you know that "asshat" is used on 612 pages, but only 19 in mainspace? The other 593 must have been spirited debates. ;-) Lev!vich 04:48, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Levivich - A lot of vandalism manages to make it through our edit filters and automated tools that are designed to revert vandalism on-the-spot. This is where human intervention steps in and where people like myself (and yourself) review edits and revert disruption. Don't be discouraged; for each disruptive edit that manages to slip by automated systems and are reverted by humans, the more that they learn. They use learning technology and skills to to better themselves, which is why human intervention is so important. We're working to better that technology every day, and simply because we revert vandalism using semi-automated tools. So don't give up! Stay tuned! The tools we have are far better than we had 12 years ago (I would know, I've been there lol), and they're only getting better. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:34, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
User:Isaacwshearer
Good evening, Oshwah. I'm here about the editorial behavior of Isaacwshearer (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), as mentioned above by GoneIn60. I'm not sure its worth an WP:ANI discussion because of their inactivity over the last 24+ hours, but no-less lots of recent edits since the expiration of their block has been made towards content forking roller coaster articles that necessarily do not need to be split, with somewhat other dubious edits including images not properly gathered from off-wiki sources or moving again an article without discussion. I wanted to seek advice whether its necessary to start a discussion about this editors behavior or not, as their edits point to a lack of responding to feedback left at their talk-page and continued disruptive editing. Thank you for considering my inquiry, and sorry for the bother, Adog (Talk・Cont) 06:58, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Task looked at by User:Ad Orientem, though I'd admit, I may have over-assumed a valid redirect made by the diff above mentioning "Monster" as there seems to be other similar named roller coasters. It would be more clear if there was an edit summary to explain these kinds of edits, however, that faults onto me for assuming the nature of this diff given the editors past, frequent mass-changes. I want to make that clear if it contributed towards the 2 week block, but my other observations still stand. Thanks, Adog (Talk・Cont) 19:12, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Adog: I appreciate your clarification above, but this editor has a history of disruptive editing going back for their entire time here. A glance at their talk page shows a wall of messages and warnings regarding their problematic editing and I can't find any indication they responded. They were already on my radar as I had declined a report at ANI back in June given they were a newer editor who had not received a proper welcome. but things have been going downhill steadily I'm afraid. Since I declined the ANI report they have been blocked twice, once by Oshwah, and yet the problems persist. So no, your warning was not decisive here. This is an editor with what looks like really serious WP:CIR issues and it was their unsourced edits on Inverted roller coaster that were the last straw for me. I intensely dislike blocking editors who are not obviously cases of NOTHERE, but they have received a ton of advice and warnings, apparently without effect. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 19:29, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Going off of Ad Orientem's response, I agree that blocking someone on competence is required grounds is not easy at all - not by a long shot. However, sometimes this needs to happen... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:39, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Request to add content to the page Melanie Stansbury
Hi Oshwah,
I would like to request that you review my request for additions to the page Melanie Stansbury. I noticed that you had contributed to the page Melanie A. Stansbury, which was moved tonight to Melanie Stansbury. I have disclosed a connection to the subject of this page and have posted a tag on the talk page to disclose that fact. Since Wikipedia's COI guidelines ask that users with a connection not edit a page to which they are connected, I am requesting on the Talk page that changes be made. The changes are well sourced, I think, and should not be controversial. The previous page was based only on information that is two years old and there are updates to be made. I'm sure the editor who created the page will, but I would greatly appreciate it if you would too. Thank you. BiostatSci (talk) 06:01, 21 August 2020 (UTC)BiostatSci
- Hi BiostatSci! I appreciate you for understanding that you may have a conflict of interest with the article subject, and I greatly appreciate you for following Wikipedia's guidelines and for making an edit request instead of modifying the article yourself. I wish many more editors would follow your example and do this. :-) It looks like other editors have responded to your edit request with some concerns; you should respond to those concerns and work with those editors to clear up any issues. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for your diligence and for doing your best to follow Wikipedia's guidelines. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:37, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Editing
Hi Oshwah, I wanted to come to you because of my edits on the following two pages: 1. On Shivkar Bapuji Talpade page, I have referenced book sources. Yet, RegentPark states they are not reliable even with book details, ASIN, etc. P.V. Vartak has written many books, many of which have been translated into other languages. He already has a Marathi wiki page which I translated into English. Just because an author has his own publishing house does not mean his books are not reliable sources. RegentPark has never addressed the heading edit I made to Talpade page because the heading was and still is a Sanskrit proper noun that makes no sense to an English reader and doesn't tell them what the section is about. Yet, RegentPark keeps reverting the heading. I can't help but observe that RegentPark has several complaints made against him for bias against Hinduism or Hindu culture. For eg, Tipu Sultan edits, Maratha invasion, Dwarka historicity, etc. And for this, editor Doug Weller is attempting to block me and delete my page creation.
2. My edits on Rigveda page were reverted by Joshua Jonathan because he said Tilak and Vartak are fringe authors. Tilak is a Sanskrit scholar who has been quoted multiple times by other authors. In any case, I can add more references and create a separate heading perhaps that says "Alternative timelines" or something. Rigveda's date of composition has always been under dispute and this is clearly mentioned on the page itself. Interestingly, Joshua Jonathan also has a editing history and talk pages that are full of complaints from Indians that his edits are biased against Hindu culture or Indian history.
I can't help but think that there is a anti-Hindu bias at work here from some editors. In general, there seems to be a lack of ethnic diversity among Wikipedia admins anyway which is probably a separate and broader discussion in itself. Sorry for the long post, but I did want to address this with a neutral third-party, hence I sent a message to you! If you are not the right person to send this to, I apologize!
Thanks! ga11 (talk) 18:16, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Gauri a11! I'm sorry to see that you've been blocked, and I'm saddened to see that you resorted to incivility to resolve your disputes. I hope that you can evaluate your behavior, and go through the proper channels to show that you've learned from your mistakes and that you'll properly resolve disputes and work to contribute and improve the encyclopedia. We all make mistakes, and I hope that you'll return. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:57, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

- DrewieStewie - Oh boy, I remember those days... I was a full-time college student and had to work on top of that in order to stay afloat. Classes and work can be long and stressful, and you still have to study on top of that. Keep grinding though! I remember when graduation was coming up, it didn't even hit me that I was done with college until a week before. I was still grinding away at studying and final exams, and when all was done... I realized... "Wow... that's... that's it. I'm leaving school and my life is going to significantly change..." It was a weird feeling, not one that I could fully put into words. Transitioning from college to a career can be quite intense, so prepare yourself. And have fun, too! Having fun is equally as important as working and studying. Take it from me, whose been through college, graduated, and is now out in the workforce: This is the last period of your life where you can be "a kid", have fun, and go a little crazy. Having a career comes with freedom, but also a lot of responsibility. You're now "a grown up" and have to do "adulting" things... Enjoy life while you're free from those obligations, but be smart and use common sense. I wish you well and I hope you have a great labor day weekend. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:51, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Will do! I am currently studying history to become a history teacher at the high school level, this semester I also need to apply for Sac State for next year. I am enjoying my youth as much as I can, maybe my career choice will help me experience a little more of that for awhile, I'll try to be the best teacher I could ever be. Maybe my choice of major could help me contribute more to articles dealing with history, I'd probably stay more focused on professional wrestling/behind the WikiScenes/miscellaneous stuff on here though. Thanks for taking the time to give such thoughtful advice, it means a lot. :) DrewieStewie (talk) 02:34, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- DrewieStewie - You're welcome! IP editor
Hi there. A while ago I asked if you could rangeblock an IP address and you were a big help. I'm having the same problem with a series of IP editors messing up Treaty of Watertown, Eskasoni First Nation, and a few other articles. The edits added have mostly been gibberish, and a few of the IP's have been warned. All the IPs are from Enosburg Falls, Vermont. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 12:34, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Magnolia677! I apologize for the delayed response - I've been busy with work and other matters, and I'm just now getting caught up with all of the Wikipedia messages, emails, requests, and other fun stuff that I received. ;-) It looks like the edits are coming from this IP range; if the user continues with any more shenanigans, let me know and I'll be happy to take care of it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:41, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey there, if you look at all the edits made by that IP range they are all spam; additions of off-topic info, irrelevant links, gibberish, and lots of stuff about Gypsies. Nearly all edits have been reverted by other editors. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 13:29, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

/* Culture */ **False claims of cannibalism were removed. A frightened German anthropologist visited the west coast in the late 1800s and blanket labeled native culture as cannibalistic
Hello,Oshwah As a member of this community in Bella Bella I would appreciate if you would allow me to remove these ridiculous claims of my ancestors of being cannibals. The kwakwaka'wakw people(not connected to Bella Bella or the Heiltsuk people) were as close as you could be to cannibals only because they used deceased relatives ashes in ceremonies. That was the only community on the west coast that disturbed human remains in any way shape or form. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.52.88.57 (talk) 02:53, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Obscure message of being blocked.
Hi Oshwah, I have received an odd message to say I have been blocked for committing vandalism on a page I don't even recognise. The message is dated 1 March 2016
Cheers, George SoupBones (talk) 11:00, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @SoupBones: Where did you see this message? If it was at an IP talk page which you saw before you 'logged in' then IP addresses can frequently change and it is very possible that it was aimed at someone who did not create an account and who was assigned the same IP address at an earlier time. Eagleash (talk) 15:35, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you Eagleash, that makes sense. I have use Wikipedia for years and chucked in a bit of $$'s over the time.
