A year-long initiative
[edit]I was trying to call you for 2-3 days. Let's create a list of articles which we should work in this year. What do you think? I can start start working on creating a page. Let's see if User:Rosiestep can join.
There should not too many articles, we'll add only a few articles (3-4) at a time. --Tito Dutta (talk) 17:54, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Titodutta: I would be happy to work on some of them. Year of Science is Wikipedia's 2016 theme. Can we incorporate some science-related redlinks? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:20, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
- Sounds good, if we want to do it on mainspace, we can start WP:Year of Science or WP:2016 Year of Science, I think it was a nomination at the US conference. Was it accepted? --Tito Dutta (talk) 18:44, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
- FYI, Wikipedia:Year of Science was created several weeks ago to coordinate efforts in 2016. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:42, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
Image parameters
[edit]I don't think "NNNpx" has any effect on thumbnailed pictures, but if it does, it's probably not a good effect. In non-thumbnailed, non-frames images, I think it sets either the exact, minimum, or maximum width that a large image will be scaled to. These days, with people using many different computers, tablets, phones, etc., with varying pixel densities, we do not want to force a pixel size on the reader.
Instead of using NNNpx, use upright=SCALINGFACTOR. See Help:Visual file markup/upright for details. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:24, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

St. Paul's Cathedral, Kolkata
[edit]Hello, Nvvchar -- I've pretty much finished copy-editing St. Paul's Cathedral, Kolkata. It's a nice article, and I enjoyed reading it. I just wanted to mention three things:
1) You'll see that I substituted some words with other words; sometimes, it's because there is a more accurate or colloquial word that I thought was better; other times, it's because I wanted to avoid the same word (like "built") appearing twice in the same sentence. Variety makes for good writing.
- Thanks. The changes are very appropriate.
2) In the section St. Paul's Cathedral, Kolkata#History, in the second paragraph, is the following sentence:
- In 1819 by Bishop Middleton had rejected the idea of building the cathedral, but he died in 1822.
There is something wrong with the first part of this sentence: "in 1819 by Bishop Middleton..." I could have changed it to make sense, but I thought perhaps you ought to check the source to be sure what was meant, and see what really occurred. Perhaps one of these would work:
- By the end of that year, Bishop Middleton had rejected...
[Note that the year, 1819, is mentioned in the previous sentence, so you don't have to repeat the year.](I was mistaken about this.) Corinne (talk) 03:02, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Later that year, Bishop Middleton rejected... [Note that you only need past tense here.]
Or something else if the source says something different.
- The original text here reads "The idea of a new Cathedral Church (the St. John’s Church was the Cathedral) was suggested even in 1819 by Bishop Middleton but he was laid to rest in 1822 before his vision became a reality." based on this I have made small chnage in the text. Pl see.
I see from this quote from the source that it's "suggested", not "rejected". I'll correct that. Corinne (talk) 03:03, 9 January 2016 (UTC) I decided to join the two sentences about Bishop Middleton. Would you say the sentence as I have written it is accurate? Corinne (talk) 03:07, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
3) In the section St. Paul's Cathedral, Kolkata#Features, I noticed that you have mentioned Sir Edward Burne-Jones twice. The first time, you say he designed the West Window in 1880. The second time, a few sentences later, you say he designed the windows on the west side of the tower. I don't know if these are different windows, or the same window(s), as in the first sentence. If they are the same, the first sentence can be left out. If they are different windows, then the sentences can remain where they are, but the first one is the one that should have the link. Also, you will have to decide where you want to put the phrase, "a pre-Raphaelite master". I would think it would go with the first mention of the artist, wouldn't you?
- The original text reads "the cathedral has a fine alter peiece three gothic stained glass windows, two Florentine frescoes and the great West window by Burn-Jones..." Hence I have retained the sentences but removed the extra link.
Well, that's all. Corinne (talk) 01:19, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Archiving online references
[edit]Hi! Archiving of online references is quite easy, though very boring job. You need to following these steps.
- Visit http://archive.org/web/
- Paste the url of the weblink you wish to archive in the box present there. For example if we wish to archive http://www.telegraphindia.com/1061229/asp/etc/story_7145548.asp, we paste this link there & hit "Browse History" tab.
- It will show you the history of archives present of this url. You can click the latest date "September 29, 2015" in our example and this will redirect you to the archived url, i.e. http://web.archive.org/web/20150929174027/http://www.telegraphindia.com/1061229/asp/etc/story_7145548.asp.
- All you now need to do is fill the reference with these updated parameters of |archive-url= and |archive-date=
I have done this archiving of one ref on Kalpavriksha page. See difference here. The archived link usually shows up quickly. But in case the site isn't archived previously, it might take some time for step 3 to complete. Patience is what we follow then. Happy editing and congrats for new GA of Kalpavriksha. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:23, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Detty Kurnia
[edit]Hi Nvvchar, I just read your message at id.wiki. But sorry, I don't think I can get the free-licensed photo of Detty Kurnia. Honestly, this is the first time I heard her name, her genre actually is not very popular in Indonesia, doesn't mean to disregard her role as traditional pop music singer, but that means that only some few people who know her and I don't think those people love (or even know how) to take the picture of their idol and upload it to their social media account (I believe this way is easier to get someone's photo by directly ask the uploader of the photo). I just checked google and found only her photos for her album covers that I believe is not free-licensed. I think id.wiki's policy permits us to upload low-resolution album cover but it may be used only for id.wiki. So how is it? If you want to talk to me futher, please write on my id.wiki's user talk page :) . I often don't open my en.wiki's account and maybe it take a long time for me to realize if someone just left a message for me in my en.wiki's account. And sorry that I am not helpful at all. Okkisafire (talk) 13:36, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- I find this blogspot but I think Detty's photo over there was taken from her video clip. I don't really understand the license's regulation outside Indonesia. Can it be used? Okkisafire (talk) 13:57, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- Okkisafire Thanks. I don't think it can be uploaded. Thanks for your prompt reply. I have posted the article on DYK without an img.Nvvchar. 14:25, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon starts in 24 hours
[edit]Hello,
Thanks a lot for signing up as a participant in the Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon. We want to inform you that this edit-a-thon will start in next 24 hours or so (25 January 0:00 UTC). Here are a few handy tips:
- ⓵ A resource section has been started, you may check it here.
- ⓶ Report the articles you are creating and expanding. If a local event page has been created on your Wikipedia you may report it there, or you may report it on the Meta Wiki event page too. This is how you should add an article— go to the
"participants"
section where you have added you name, and beside that add the articles like this:Example (talk) (Articles: Article1, Article2, Article3, Article4).
You don't need to update both on Meta and on your Wikipedia, update at any one place you want. - ⓷ If you are posting about this edit-a-thon- on Facebook or Twitter, you may use the hashtag #GIIND2016
- ⓸ Do you have any question or comment? Do you want us to clarify something? Please ask it here.
Thank you and happy editing. Tito Dutta (talk) 21:43, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

- This has been an on-again, off-again problem for months. There is nothing anyone here can do as the page view site is external and is maintained by another editor. Luckily, one of the winners in this year's community wishlist is a page view site run and maintained by the WMF. That is in the works. In the meantime, we have to be patient. --Majora (talk) 04:55, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Your review of Template:Did you know nominations/Jonas Åkerlund (politician)
[edit]- In this case the review system failed Wikipedia, since BabbaQ's nomination blatantly violates the "Articles and hooks that focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals should be avoided" rule of hook content, and indeed, this DYK was later pulled from the mainpage. I loathe the SD party as much as anyone, but that's no excuse - please try better to follow DYK rules the next time you review one. Thank you CapnZapp (talk) 12:58, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Why harrass Nvvchar more than 24 hours later with this kind of comment. Just move on. Thank you.--BabbaQ (talk) 13:51, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Is it that only I am targeted because I am an Indian and do not react easily? Is it not a bias? Any one can make this error of judgement. There are no rules about it.--Nvvchar. 11:15, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
- Just ignore that comment Nvvchar. Posting a comment about it more than 24 hours after the article had been pulled is baiting, and also the tone of the message indicates that somehow we are "anti-SD" and did this DYK to smear his name. Also the fact that the comment is about a situation were the article was pulled with less than 2 hours left at DYK is also quite telling. Either post a comment straight away or not at all, even less so more than 24 hours later. I am not saying that Capnzapp did this on purpose or with ill will but this time it came out wrong I think. @CapnZapp:.--BabbaQ (talk) 11:49, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
