The Amerivision Song Contest 2002 was the fourty-seventh edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The edition was hosted in the Stade Louis Achille, in Fort-de-France, Martinique, as the country earned the right to host the event by winning the previous edition. It was largely expected that Martinique would not be hosting the contest after its victory, as most Caribbean nations do, however, in a surprising turn, Martinique actually agreed to host the contest, constructing a roof on the Stade Louis Achille, as it was outdoors prior to the contest.
This was the last edition of the contest made in just one night, from 2003 onwards, the semifinal system was introduced.

[edit]Only one martinican venue showed interest in hosting the contest, a roof had to be built on top of it for it to be suitable for hosting.

Relegations
[edit]No countries rejoined the contest this year, but Bermuda, Nicaragua and Panama withdrew the contest.
In total, four nations got relegated, those being Argentina, Costa Rica, Guyana and the U.S. Virgin Islands
