Not seeing what makes him notable (likely fail of WP:NBIO). Sources are very poor - few mentions in passing in family tree, company websites, and such. BEFORE shows very little (don't confuse him with his father Thomas Cobbold (1680–1752) that gets a little bit more coverage and has borderline notability).

Suleiman Nuri

Great work on the 3rd congress article. Regarding, Suleiman Nuri, sure that he wasn't the the Turkey rather than Constantinople delegation? The CIML website (which isn't very WP:RS) lists Nuri as one of the Turkey delegates. I can't access the Jstor article. --Soman (talk) 17:09, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Well thank you for your work! Excellent. I think you are right about Suleiman Nuri: When Mustafa Subhi made the fateful decision to return to Tirkey, Nuri remanied in Baku. I think we should make the Istanbul link to Occupation of Constantinople.Leutha (talk) 08:07, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Jack Radey moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Jack Radey, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Ost (talk) 17:53, 11 May 2020 (UTC) I didn't see that the page was still being edited and it had no sources in the version I saw when I clicked to Draftify. You must have edited between when I loaded and when I clicked as you appear to have already been in the process of rectifying that. I apologize for being hasty. —Ost (talk) 17:59, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Ipswich Docks article

[edit]

Hi, the Ipswich Docks article has a shortform reference (Twinch 2009) but no long form reference for it. I have searched for details, and assume it is by Carol Twinch, but the only book of hers I can find which was written in 2009 is on Essex, and Ipswich is in Suffolk. If you know the details, can you add the long form details, please? Bob1960evens (talk) 12:13, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello. Not that I object to this move, but could you please provide a bit of motivation why the name should be like this? We have six more articles of the same type, which in this case would need to be moved as well, and I am about to start another three (there are ten suburban directions in Moscow, and I am now actively working on these). Thanks.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:19, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Yes, the term "direction", is not used in English in the naming of railway lines, thus I feel that a direct translation of the Russian term is not appropriate. Indeed, if you check rail directions you will see the term has quite a different meaning in English, referring to the direction of travel along a railway line. I feel it would be clumsy to introduce a transliteration of the Russian word Направление – "Napravleniye" to convey the distinct use of the term in the Russian context. I must admit I do not know whether the Russian term Линия is ever used in the naming of railway facilities. I hope you find this approach sensible and would like to thank you for your excellent work as regards improving the English wikipedia on Russia topics.Leutha (talk) 16:07, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. No, Line is not commonly used in Russian (it is used for metro lines, and sometimes for railway lines but only it this is something very well defined such as line Berkakit - Tommot - Yakutsk, synonimous with Berkakit - Tommot - Yakutsk railway. However, we are writing in English and do not have to take this into account. My only remaining doubt is that these lines, such as the Yaroslavl line, are not really lines, but from the mathematical point of view they are graphs - a line with side branches which can have side branches themselves etc. Is it still ok to call this structure a line?--Ymblanter (talk) 16:13, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Check Template:Northern line map, Template:District Line RDT so this is commonplace. The Wikipedia:Route diagram templates look great, but I think they may be beyond my coding capacity.Leutha (talk) 16:22, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Great, thanks. I will then rename the remaining lines and perform the cleanup.--Ymblanter (talk) 16:27, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:15, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Art galleries in Moscow requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Hayle Harbour Act 1989 moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Hayle Harbour Act 1989, is not suitable as written to remain published. Notice

The article Sip (kinship) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

dictionary definition WP:NOTDIC

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. rsjaffetalk 23:36, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

Best wishes for a safe, healthy and prosperous 2022.
Thank you for your contributions toward making Wikipedia a better and more accurate place.
BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 20:12, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Moral lesson: John Vanderlyn was an American painter who studied in Paris, and his life-sized
Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos was one of the first large nudes exhibited in the United States.
Peddling the poison as well as the cure, this overtly sensuous work was presented to the public as a
moral lesson on the consequences of lascivious behavior. Visible in the distance is the ship of
Princess Ariadne's secret lover, Theseus, for whom she has betrayed her people by helping him to
escape the Labyrinth and slay the Minotaur. Ariadne's bliss will come to an end when she awakens
from her post-coital reverie, only to discover that the faithless Theseus has sailed away without her.
