DYK for The Zürau Aphorisms
[edit]On 1 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Zürau Aphorisms, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Franz Kafka wrote the 109 Zürau Aphorisms at the estate of his sister Ottla and her husband in Zürau where he sought recovery from tuberculosis? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Zürau Aphorisms. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. I ain't superstitious ...
[edit]... if I was, I would probably believe in magic, miracles, mahdis and messiahs. But I lean more towards animism. If I sometimes ignore a suggestion it does not mean I don't appreciate it, just that I am being rude, which comes naturally to me. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 01:57, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- The above is obscure. Something struck me as odd about "Many ... believe in animism and are superstitious and believe in witchcraft and magic, but some also have Christian or Islamic beliefs." It seems to link animism with superstition, and to separate superstition, witchcraft and magic from Christian beliefs. To some, the link would be questionable, and others would question the separation. I looked at this one and thought maybe I should add to it, then got sidetracked, looked again and thought maybe not, but never got round to responding, then did a quick check that immediately brought up Encountering Eloyi, which muddies the whole picture. Dashes
[edit]Hello, just one small thing: please try to pay attention to how dashes are generally used on Wikipedia. In this edit to the Frascati article, you changed an en dash to a hyphen. [edit]I'm afraid that I'm going to have to give up on that effort, perhaps I'm not smart enough, but london2012.com is strongly resisting my attempts to retrieve HTML from the site, and without that, any automatic solution to the missing references is impossible. I'm sorry, I wish there were another way. Any suggestions welcomed. --j⚛e deckertalk 23:11, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

- I think it's going to be more difficult since london2012.com is redirecting you to the paralympics. Ryan Vesey 02:50, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- Not a problem, if you can get to one of the athletes, there's still (so far) a working search bar there for the current ones. E.g., here. I have been able to programmatically get to and get the results from typing something into that bar. But there is, historically speaking, a deadline, and I have no idea if the site will stick around long enough for the BRFA process. Probably. --j⚛e deckertalk 14:03, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I hope that you remember me. Well, I certainly do, considering all the help that I received from you. Please have a look at the Kajol article, that is currently a GA nominee. I have used a lot of GB links to source the article, all thanks to you. I have become much less prolific in editing now, but my eyes are set on the Shahrukh Khan article, especially since it is in such a mess. I do hope that we can have a discussion over these articles. Your Alcatraz work is fantastic! I've been thinking about the Alcatraz template. Until I added Citadel, all the entries were related to Alcatraz during its federal penitentiary period. The citadel was from the military history period; I think it's the only entry from that time. How to differentiate between periods within the template? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:25, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Alcatraz photos
[edit]The library one is a little iffy. It's sourced to a federal archive, but there is no information about the original author. Considering that it was a federal prison, it seems likely to be PD-USgov, but we can't really say for sure.(Theoretically it could be a press photo included in the federal historical archive, for example.) I searched for more info about that archive ("interpretation negative collection"), but didn't find anything. If you're serious about using the photo, it might be worth contacting them about the contents of the archive and forwarding what you find to OTRS.
Re dining hall, there's a photo on this page by one Carl Sundstrom, who is described in contemporary press accounts as a records clerk at Alcatraz.[1] (i also found some recent books etc describing him as a guard; maybe he held both positions.) In any event, given that Alcatraz was a federal prison when the photos were taken, he'd certainly have been a federal employee in the course of his employment, so the photo would be Pd-USgov. Hope this helps! Calliopejen1 (talk) 03:23, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Franz Lehrndorfer. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:14, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Collaboration
[edit]Dear Dr. Blofeld,
Thank you very much for the welcome both you and Rosie have given me to continue with our old association of writing DYKs. Rosie has made a very nice gesture of dedicating her 505th DYK (a joint article with you), which was also my last land mark number when I stopped editing on wiki last August 2011 due to illness. I am sure we will continue with this camaraderie for a long time. I have written some artciles in the draft form which are now locked in my laptop which has crashed. I hope to recover the files shortly and post them on DYK with you both jointly. Warm greetings and regards.--Nvvchar. 01:56, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
I have almost completed my inputs to the two Alcatraz articles. I may add a little more tomorrow. You may now like to post them for DYK (My first two after return to editing on wiki) and later for GA. I will now work on other articles suggested by you and also A-Z articles which are now in draft form from tomorrow.--Nvvchar. 03:05, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
I have completed my inputs to the articles Fakanau and Rufe Persful. A photo of the Fakanau dance could add to the get up of the article. --Nvvchar. 01:07, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Maeve Alexander for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Maeve Alexander is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maeve Alexander until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. TheGrappler (talk) 01:51, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I could not open the Alcatraz file as there is a decrypt error.--Nvvchar. 14:52, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
The article Georg Jann has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. – MrX 17:41, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Ragol Al Mostaheel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ragol Al Mostaheel.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. File permission problem with File:John Angel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:John Angel.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Thanks for the award, though sorry for the delay I have completed my inputs to Kerevat and Kerevat Airfield. You may like to supplement and post it on DYK. I will work on the other articles tomorrow. Thanks once again. --Nvvchar. 05:30, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
I have completed my inputs to these two Palacio de Velázquez, Ricardo Velázquez and Daniel Zuloaga. But there is not enough on engineer [[Alberto del Palacio to even double] its present ch and hence DYK is out for this. All the google references are only in Spanish for The Exposición Nacional de Minería of November 1883. I could not find a single entry in English in google books. My computer is not able to translate the Spanish version. Kerevt was due for posting on DYK on 12th Sept. Please give me the references related to Phallic architecture. In fact the Shiva lingam widely worshipped in India is a phallic symbol. Can we mention it?--Nvvchar. 04:22, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Vacha Dam
[edit]Hi Dr. Blofeld! It's great that you guys are working on a detailed Bulgaria-related article once again. The Bulgarian Wikipedia article is about an enterprise which began the construction of the Vacha Dam in the interwar period (1920–1937). The enterprise apparently built a hydroelectric plant (first pic). And while this isn't stated in any article, it seems that the modern dam was built at the place of the old one. I'll have to do some research on that.
As for sources:
- This newspaper article has some technical data
- This newspaper article has some more facts + some curious stuff about huge catfish that inhabit the reservoir
- This article documents some repairs done 5 years ago
I'll see what I can add from these and possibly other sources in Bulgarian myself this evening, unless something comes up.

[edit]that I now have to change my user page to reflect the reality of Phallic architecture. But then, this is 20152 so, I Like Change. The article looks great, however I have not checked yet to see if it mentions not only the Nebraska State Capitol (I saw my picture, so it probably does) but whether or not it includes that the statue by Lee Lawrie on the top is named "The seed thrower." DYK nomination of Rufe Persful
[edit]Hi Dr B
I have not done a full review of your DYK nomination for Rufe Persful, but I have suggested an alternative hook.
I also noted that one of the refs in the article seemed to be of questionable reliability, so I have tagged the article and left a note at Talk:Rufe Persful#USgennet.org_reference. As you may be aware, the presence of dispute tags is likely to lead to the article being rejected. Please can you try to resolve this before a full review is done?

The article Lars Graff has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This needs to be redirected as per tennis project discussions here and here, and recent Mohamed Lahyani reverts. It should be redirected to the article List of tennis umpires as we do with other umpires.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:07, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Madrid royal factories
[edit]The short answer is that you left me a note to nom the articles. I couldn't pull together a big nom for everything, so I started with the outliers which wouldn't fit into the big nom, one which was at Day5 today. Feel free to work on them and add your name!!! I'm trying to get Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja and Bartolome Sureda y Miserol up to snuff; I'd be glad to stop if you'd like to work on them. My suggestion would be to add them to the Royal Factory of La Moncloa, Real Fábrica del Buen Retiro nom. What do you think? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
The big nom would be for Daniel Zuloaga, Eusebio Zuloaga, Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, and Palacio de Velázquez. Don't know how to twist in Eusebio into the nom, but Danial and Ricardo worked on the Palacio, so that's easy. Are there any others? --Rosiestep (talk)
Oh yeah, forgot about Exposición Nacional de Minería (1883). I have to do some household stuff right now. I'll check and see how far along the quad nom for Royal Factory of La Moncloa, Real Fábrica del Buen Retiro, Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja and Bartolome Sureda y Miserol is when I get back (Though I've done it in the past, I'm not absolutely sure how to add 2 noms to a template that already has 2 noms). After that, will look at Daniel Zuloaga, Eusebio Zuloaga, Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, Palacio de Velázquez, and Exposición Nacional de Minería (1883)... i.e. they probably need a final scrub before a 5 way nom... if a five way is even possible. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:12, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

- Thank you! Is Markgrafenschloß the same as Residenz Ansbach? The two churches need a lot more work but I am too tired. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
Plenty of time to work on them, they could be reviewed for flaws within a day maybe but that'll easy be rectified in due course. I think they're different. One venue is cited in the Orangerie of the garden of Residenz, the other, the grand hall of Markgrafen, you may wish to check though..♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:27, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- I suggest to do the following: nominate the festival by itself, with music not just locations, using this nomination (I can do that), and create a different nom with the locations (looks like 3 to me) once they are better developed (under a simple name please). What do you think? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:37, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
If the long titled DYK nom is not to your satisfaction I have no objection but it seemed to make sense to have them all together.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:58, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think they all have to be there, one would be enough (as long as all the credits are there). But to the other question: is it ok to do the festival separately? I am afraid it would get "lost" at the end of a multi-hook, also the others are far from ready. - What is the meaning of "The 1955 festival was centred around Peter Pears"? I can't see the book page with the ref. (I dropped the private details that are in his article, not related to the festival, and that - I assume - everybody knows anyway.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:23, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- OK, that's fine. Go for it. The buildings can be nommed once ready.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:26, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- I will. The quote from the Saturday review doesn't make sense without mentioning what it was about. Milstein - choir? - Who will do the merge from the Markgrafenschloss to Residenz? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:33, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Are you positive they are the same? Which title then? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:35, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Residenz Ansbach, of course, like de. Look at the ref for the other, "Die Markgrafenresidenz als Denkmal", - there are no two such buildings with the same history and the same features in one town. (I just changed the town, btw., from Anspach to Ansbach, both have a link.). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:41, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- I only use bach-cantatas refs if no other is available, why use the 2004 one at all? There's 2010. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:44, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure what you are referring to..♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:50, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- 2004, should not even be mentioned, if you ask me, 2010 is much better, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:58, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you! I nominated the festival, but made the mistake of moving the other nom. For some reason I don't quite understand, it lost the history in the process but still appears in the nom list. Sorry, I should have started a new one. I leave it included, in case you want to save the hook for the next round, and for people to see that it was there in time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:18, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Incomplete DYK nomination
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Vacha Reservoir at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; see step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 16:43, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- The above article is not seen on the main nomination page under 16 September. Probably that may be the reason for the above comment. I have now complted my inpsuts to five Ansbach articles except Ansbach which is already long and can not be expanded to DYK now. Mr Gerda Arendt has also edited all of them very nicely. The building in Spain Palacio de Velázquez and related artists articles have not been nominated so far. Nvvchar

What is so special about Ernst doing the Alcatraz article? He spent alot of time there as a "guest", so he would have alot of first hand knowledge about the place. Pfft, no reason to give him a barnstar for that. Have Ernst research and write up an article on how to kill your archenemy quickly, dogs making great pets or how to treat other editors with civility. He would have to do alot of research for those articles and might actually learn something new. Bgwhite (talk) 22:04, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

- I think that this might make you only the second person here, other than Newyorkbrad, to have an award specifically named for him, and, honestly, I can't think of many people more deserving than the two of you. Oh, BTW, I am slowly working on a list of reference books, and replied on my talk page. I don't think you know just how many there are, actually. I have found an old 1986 volume listing a lot of those published to that date, and will try to get together a list of the encyclopedia type sources it lists maybe later this week. But there have been at least a few hundred issued per year since then, and getting a list of all of them would take rather a lot of time. If there are any particular topics Your Evilness is specifically interested in, though, I could try to see what all I can find on them. John Carter (talk) 22:38, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks John! I'm going to personal see to the Bibliography of encyclopedias I think when I have more time. We do have various lists of encyclopedias but I literally want as full a bibliography of anything A-Z like of encyclopedias or biographical dictionaries of any language formatted like Bibliography of Hindi cinema as possible as in the quest for the "sum" of knowledge I think we need to have a record of as many such books as possible and would be important in working towards what is missing. It would be invaluable for research I think but it will be pretty demanding and an ongoing building process much like the project itself. I frequently find highly valuable encyclopedias and dictionaries in google books in foreign languages which we have poor coverage of and such should be listed on here I think as much as possible. Might take up a few pages but I'm going to go for it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:06, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Congratulations from me too. What amazes me is that you not only manage to succeed with all those DYKs but you also produce many excellent full length articles in parallel while helping others on a wide variety of topics. But you and John Carter are right about the need to have a better bibliography of encyclopedias. I've just been looking once again at List of encyclopedias and the other lists displayed there and am really surprised at how many are missing for the various languages - including many available online. (Just in the past week I have, for example, drawn on Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani and Dictionnaire historique de la Suisse (fully trilingual in German, French and Italian). There are in fact WP articles on both of these but as far as I can see they are not in the lists! - see Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani and Dictionnaire historique de la Suisse). I tried to compile a List of Danish online encyclopedic resources a couple of years ago but ran into trouble on the grounds that I could not include items in the list unless there were separate Wikipedia articles on each one. This in turn caused a problem as I was advised many were not notable enough to be included in the EN wiki. That might also explain why so many of the encyclopedias from Italy, Switzerland, Germany, etc. are simply not listed. It's a pity, especially as people often find it difficult to find pertinent references for biographies and the like. If there's any progress on this, let me know and I'll try to assist. --Ipigott (talk) 14:03, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yeah its the biographical dictionaries more than anything in foreign languages like Catalan architects and that which we really need to note. There is a massive Chilean dictionary of biography in Spanish too which is accessible in the states in google books I think and we are missing at least half the entries. A simple list of encyclopedias ordered by theme isn't a good research tool and it doesn't link to them online with isbn numbers either. We need the most comprehensive list of encyclopedias/biographical dictionaries we can compile. It'll be a gradual thing of course but I'm going to make a start on it in the next few days. I'll begin with the lists of encyclopedias and put them in alpha order and then add those which are listed on Credo. Then browsing google books and such from there... And those which are public domain resources can be identified and potentially them copied to wiki source at a later date.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:17, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

The full Monty
[edit]You did good work on notable dresses associated with royalty and others. Blofeld is perhaps more associated with cats than dogs but the Bond and royal connections of Monty (Queen Elizabeth's Dog) may interest you in a similar way. There seems to be plenty of material here so please consider taking a look. Warden (talk) 14:30, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Ha I'll look later. I like quirky topics which have an abundance of sources. They make wikipedia much more valuable. How dare they delete an article on a corgi. I've expanded it but I think a move to a general Corgis of Queen Elizabeth II might be more productive which could cover their history and all of them rather than just one who happened to die, poor thing, so cute!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:36, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)I have seen a photo which, if it could be tracked down and were free, would make a splendid illustration for such an article: a procession of minions going up the steps of an aircraft, each carrying a corgi. JohnCD (talk) 16:59, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Sadly lacking some articles
[edit]I was doing some reading on "The political economy of the Slave Ship" for class when I read about "Ansa Sasraku" [sic?]. In attempting to search for more information about him I searched for Akwamu. Both that page and List of rulers of the Akan states of Akwamu and Twifo-Heman have a table containing a large list of rulers who should really have articles. Care to work on any of those? I wouldn't treat those articles like the Bible though. The source I'm reading mentions "Ahenesa (Akwamuhene Ansa Sasraku)" and it seems like it refers to him as Ahenesa throughout, that isn't even mentioned in the Wikipedia article. At the same time, my source only mentions it with quotes and I do not know where they are quoted from but they appear to be period. Considering the spelling of the 17th and 18th centuries, it is plausible that new information is more correct. (RV)130.91.93.243 (talk) 20:56, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

The article August Wiltberger has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
Eggplant production in China

- I don't seem to be doing the nominations on DYK correctly. I have edited the Eggplant production in China and removed the tag. The hook could probably be ...that China has been a producer of eggplants (pictured) since the 5th century BC? For the Hairstyles in the 1950s the hook could be ... that among the Hairstyles in the 1950s, "Short bangs" (pictured) were very popular with women, favored by women such as Lucille Ball and First lady Mamie Eisenhower? For the Bartolomé Sureda y Miserol you have to chose the hook and the picture. Sorry for troubling you. I will do the QPQ. --Nvvchar. 19:48, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm fine. Article looks fine at first glance but the sourcing looks dubious.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:46, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for kind reply. Well, I am opposing the idea of deleting; I think because of the poor sourcing it should be addressed by fixing and improving it, however not by deleting it. Would you agree? Helen-Heller (talk) 04:53, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Dr. Blofeld :) I have made some minor changes in Latsabidze's article, and spent some time to put the sources in the right formatting. See if you ca give more suggestions regarding that in generally as well. I think it is reasonable to think that article will be fixed, not deleted, according to the discussion on the deletion page; so do you think we can take out the deletion tag from the article? The article Bristol Hotel, Gibraltar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- WP:NOTTRAVEL: "Wikipedia is not the place to recreate content more suited to entries in hotel or culinary guides, travelogues, and the like." If there is anything notable about the hotel beyond being a hotel, the article should state this and focus on this. As it stands, this is a WP:NOT violation.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 12:15, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- I dealt with the prod for you but that article is now at AFD. I'm not sure why you weren't notified directly but suppose that you're weary of being spammed by all these templates. They remind me of parking tickets ... Warden (talk) 15:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Why? Maybe because Fram is not the sort of editor who can treat fellow editors with respect. Thanks, but Fram still thinks of himself as the Warden (Alcatraz or Traffic warden indeed) of Wikipedia whose duty it is to protect the greater good. He doesn't realize how much of an asshole he comes across as in the process. Rather than constructively discuss the way forward he prefers to get on every editor's nerves by going all out nuke, and when people make constructive comments on how to perhaps merge or make something better of it he gets all stuffy and starts branding policies.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

- Is this Dr. Blofeld's cite code? What does it do? Ryan Vesey 23:49, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah it makes it so easy. Its a google book ref maker and search tool. You visit an unsourced/poorly sourced article. Search the title in google books, find a url verifying it, paste it into the ref maker and you have a citations ready to add straight to the article. My coding puts the links in the top itinery for instant access. See Dennis's talk page for instructions Ryan.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:07, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
You can see my User:Dennis Brown/common.js for the lines to add. It adds two options in a drop down menu just left of TW, and the one will take any sloppy link from google books, clean it up, fill in the blanks, and turn it into a beautifully formatted citation. I've been new page patrolling when I can just to use it :) Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 23:59, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

While I'm tempted by Honiara, there is a lot of unsourced information in the article. :( I'd either have to remove it or find citations. Neither is the easiest task to start off with. :( If it was just adding information, I'd give it a go. --LauraHale (talk) 05:32, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Eh? It has 27 sources already! Not every sentence needs to be sourced! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:04, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Every fact needs to be sourced. If the sources used in the middle of an article support the facts at the end which have no source, they need to be moved to the end to clearly support everything. --LauraHale (talk) 20:25, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- I suppose I have added enough material to make the text 5x. Please check. I have also added to the three School/Univerisy articles which you like to expand. Bristol Hotel
[edit]Like you, I have prepared articles on many historic sites and buildings. I find the subject fascinating, an interest we appear to share. That said, I'm not sure which edit summaries you find to be accusatory and would be happy to discuss if you can be specific. I do think that, absent special circumstances, room rate information has no place in a Wikipedia article on a historic hotel. The same applies to the fact that a hotel does or does not have common tourist amenities like a pool. These sorts of tidbits, in my opinion, would be appropriate to a travel wiki, but not to a Wikipedia article. Given the heightened scrutiny that may result from the uproar over Gibraltarpedia, it is particularly important that articles about Gibraltar hotels be written in a manner that does include the tone or typical content of a travel guide. My goal in editing the Bristol article was initially to make sure that such travel guide-type information was not present, but I ended up becoming fascinated by the hotel's history and adding a fair bit about that. Cbl62 (talk) 17:30, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- I did take a look at the article on the Ritz Paris and view the room rate information there differently. Since the information appears in a section discussing that hotel's reputation as "reputedly the most expensive hotel in Paris," rate information falls into the "special circumstances" category where the information is notable in its own right. I do not see that example as a precedent to start routinely including room rate information in articles about historic hotels. Cbl62 (talk) 17:35, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Re: The Bland Group discussion at The Rock Hotel. I found the details to be a bit confusing and distracting. If you feel it's important, I don't object to it being re-inserted, but consider shortening/tightening it to make clear why it's included. Cbl62 (talk) 18:34, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the review. Could you check the article talk page and give some more details? --Paul_012 (talk) 12:34, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Re:Mother India
[edit]Oh yes, of course still up for this. Actually have been working on some other articles, such as Tripura, Hyderabad, India and Independence Day (India). Will return there soon.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:05, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
The road in Gibraltar
[edit]I've closed the Afd about Gibraltar's road with a consensus against deletion. There's a discussion underway at my talk page about the Afd, if you'd like to participate. Mark Arsten (talk) 14:24, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
DYK for Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas
[edit]On 28 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the collection of the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas of Madrid has some 40,000 items, from Ming and Qing dynasty porcelains to Granadian silk, Moroccan embroidery, and Turkish inkpots? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Many Thanks
[edit]Hello Dr B. My thanks to you for the recommendation. the book will definitely go on my list to be budgeted for. I picked up the DVDs for The Story of Film: An Odyssey a few months ago and was glad I did. The author makes a couple of mistakes but his passion for the subject comes through and the series is fascinating to view. Thanks again and have a great weekend. Coordinates
[edit]Hi there! I have a quick question. Can I use the coordinates of a town as the coordinates of an institution in that town? For example, can I use the coordinates of Isfana as the coordinates of a high-school there? Nataev (talk) 05:26, 29 September 2012 (UTC) I enlarged this image and found the building. Is it possible to get the exact coordinates? Nataev (talk) 08:41, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Click on the Isfana map and look on google maps. If you can tell me where the school is in relation to it, like just to the northeast etc I should be able to retrieve them through trial and error.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:44, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- ClemRutter (talk) helped me out. Thanks for replying! Nataev (talk) 15:01, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Kalika Mata Temple
[edit]Very odd and can accurately be described as a "brain fart" on my part. Can you put the content back? So sorry :) Also Pavagadh Hill may interest you. I'm going to step away from it in a couple of minutes after I finish linking. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:23, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes :) Now must run errands. Don't nom the Park or the temple yet; I'm going to create at least 1 mosque article, Jama Masjid, later today. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:37, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- I have fixed the image of the Kali temple and also fixed tags and references.--Nvvchar. 18:31, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
See my note on Char's talkpage. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:30, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Machine Translations
[edit]For the record, I don't just "dump machine translations" they have a purpose.. If you speak German and would like to help translate articles let me know, could use your help too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:00, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- Regarding your message icw Ludwig Gies, I am sorry for appearing to criticise your article, but it IS a mechanical translation, and I don't see the point of putting up articles in that form. The link you gave me is presumably to indicate the number of interesting articles still awaiting translation from German (which I do speak/write, but I have my own hit list); in my opinion however a stub in good English with an Expand tag pointing to the German original is far more effective and appropriate. I'm afraid I think we must agree to disagree on this. Jsmith1000 (talk) 21:22, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- Look through my DYK history. How many German articles do you spot? Now browse through let's say Category:Rivers of Bavaria. How many empty untranslated articles which are stubs remain so? And you're telling me what is more productive? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:25, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not telling you anything except my opinion on machine translations, on which, as said, I don't agree with you. If you want to continue this, please do so on your own Talk page.Jsmith1000 (talk) 21:51, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- The machine translations back it easier for Gerda to correct rather than starting a translation from scratch and writing everything out. It would be different if I just intended leaving the machine translated article as it is. But we don't. It is proof read by a native speaker, we scout for sources and they appear on the front page.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:54, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- I also agree with Blofeld that they have a purpose. Lots of articles on this page are German-English translations. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 22:12, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Its better to have a proof read start + class translated article than a short stub which will likely not be translated for years. I've done both trust me and the machine translated articles from a start always work out more productive. Nevertheless I'm planning on another mass stubbing spree soon... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:14, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- What do you think of starting longer ones in a sandbox, for a compromise? I will have no time for Gies for some days. - At least I find a good source for Le Laudi ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:28, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- I take the point! I'm sorry - I didn't realise that this article was part of an organised process - I am so used to seeing non-Anglophone editors throw in machine-translated articles as an end in themselves that I automatically assumed this was the same and made a drive-by edit, which is obviously inappropriate. You clearly have a productive system going, and I certainly don't want to interfere with it - please continue, and I'll be more careful in future about drawing hasty conclusions (and I'll clean up Gies as a token of good will!)Jsmith1000 (talk) 22:39, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- Apology accepted, but I thought you might have twigged when I linked Gerda's user page and my DYKs...♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:59, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Alcatraz
[edit]Sorry! I looked at those sources a while back and the more complete one didn't seem particularly authoritative, which made me hesitant to use them as the main source for the article. Also, if you go forward through the pages, partway through you also get a page not found error. :-/ So I don't really know what to say... I probably could do the National Archives list in a prettier format, but I'm not sure how useful it would be.... Calliopejen1 (talk) 23:41, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- Also, I'm not super into encyclopedias, so the latest article isn't really up my alley! Calliopejen1 (talk) 23:41, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Günther Kaunzinger

Bilbliographies of film
[edit]Hi there! I noticed you've started working on bibliographies of film by genre. If you want any help, let me know. Cliff Smith 17:48, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Hello, yes please do help. Google book search say "Action film and paste in book url into gere click on last name and remove the refname and date from the bottom right and click load, then simply copy and paste citation.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:55, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. If you could look at the film noir example I've done for making the citations and alpha order for authors this would be great!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:59, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Is that an alternate account of yours? Tijfo098 (talk) 19:15, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Haaaahahaaa that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. Yeah, I'm female, live in Chicago and am called Anne with several kids. The only reason I think you might have thought this is because I blue linked her user page as it looked ugly in red as a regular contributor.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:19, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well, it was a serious question because that account has contributed almost exclusively to MonmouthpediA and then to GibraltarpediA in recent times. So it looked like some sort of role account. But going back to their first edits it looks like they are an English history buff. Tijfo098 (talk) 19:25, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe she just enjoys the collaboration of such projects? From what I gather most of her articles even with Gibraltarpedia are history, bastions and such.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:32, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
