[edit]Welcome, Barliner, to the WikiProject Germany! Please direct any questions about the project to its talk page. If you create new articles on Germany-related topics, please list them at our announcement page and tag their talk page with our project template {{WikiProject Germany}}. - Most of the important discussions related to the project take place on the project's main talk page; you may find it useful to watchlist it.
- We've developed a number of guidelines for names, titles, and other things to standardize our articles and make interlinking easier that you may find useful.

- I don't need to participate in a discussion to carry out the results of that discussion, as shown on the image's talk page.
Your reply seems to illustrate some form of fanaticism on your part. The "wrong decision" was made by discussion. If you have checked the relevant talk page you will know how to have the decision amended. bärlinerchat 15:15, 17 July 2007 (UTC), on my page

[edit]{{helpme}}
The article Charbonnel et Walker has I section on liquidation of the company. I see it in the edit page but not the preview or the article itself. I have cleared the cache, and even looked using a different computer. Have probably missed an obvious formatting character over abd over again, but what is it. Please help. I can expand the article once this problem is solved. Thanks User:Barlinerchat 09:48, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Walter-Scheel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Walter-Scheel.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
Have removed fair use templates and replaced the licence with what I believe is the correct version. Hope this is OK.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -Nard 15:33, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Walter-Scheel.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Walter-Scheel.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
- Have removed fair use templates and replaced the licence with what I believe is the correct version. Not yet added image back to the two pages it linked to
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -Nard 15:33, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Tagging of Hotel Sharavathi
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Hotel Sharavathi. I do not think that Hotel Sharavathi fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because the db-afd tag should only be used where an WP:AFD or other deletion discussion has been held and consensus has been reached. As far as i can see, that did not happen in this case. Perhaps you will wish to stsrt one. I request that you consider not re-tagging Hotel Sharavathi for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 17:22, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Possibly unfree Image:Walter-Scheel.jpg
[edit]An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Walter-Scheel.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. -Nard 13:55, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- So so sorry but I believe the German law only makes the TEXT of German laws PD, not any pictures. You are encouraged to leave a comment defending your claims. Henry I of Haiti
[edit]{{helpme}}
I am citing from the same book several times. Is there any way to give different page refs without cutting and pasting the entire {{citebook}} template each time?
I have opted to use (author, page#)refname which looks a little ugly in the article. The only alternative seems to be: first use {{citebook}}, second reference <ref>author, page #</ref>.
Am I right?
User:Barliner chat 12:39, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- See Citing more than once. Assign the first reference a unique "name", then simply use that name for later refs. Hoof Hearted 12:49, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks but that doesn't allow changes of the page quoted. WP:FN#Style recommendations seems to prefer the sevond version I quoted. I'll change my citations User:Barliner chat 13:09, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to the League of Copyeditors
[edit]I'm very sorry I haven't had a chance to welcome you earlier, I have been incredibly busy lately. We are glad to have your help. Currently, we have really cut down the backlog of articles in need of copyedit. Therefore, a major goal at this moment is to identify new articles that are in need of work. When you run across them, be sure to tag them for copyediting.
If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to drop me a line. Trusilver 06:22, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm unclear why your recent "clean up using AWB" has removed the England-cricketbio-stub template from the article. Given Alcock's significance in cricket history, the cricket section is very brief, and it seems to me reasonable to flag the piece as a stub for the purposes of the Cricket WikiProject. JH (talk page) 18:29, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- This was an automatic change suggestion which I missed. The article as a whole is not a stub, the cricket section is so I have restored {{England-cricketbio-stub}}. Thanks for letting me know. -- Barliner talk 18:42, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Henry Havelock - career
[edit]Good work, but a minor quibble. When two officers of equal rank wished to swap postings, with the consent of their Colonels, this was an exchange. This arrangement was frequently made if an officer wished to remain in Britain, and another wished to go overseas, for adventure or better prospects or whatever. Where an officer was posted from one regiment to another, perhaps to fill a gap left by casualties, this was a transfer. I suspect that the former was the case in most of Havelock's changes of posting. HLGallon 20:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the praise and the info. For the uninformed, like me, transferred is the standard term, but a <ref>note</ref> about the difference would be useful, as would saying (at least once) "he and another officer exchanged postings". I can make more changes latter today, including a better photograph of the statue. By the way, when was he knighted. I have added KCB after his name based on the titles of two books in further reading, but a date would be useful, especially as he never got his baronetcy. -- Barliner talk 11:09, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Recent edits
[edit]Hey. I've noticed some of your recent edits, which includes changing England to United Kingdom and removing pipelinks on football players articles. Well, England is used instead of UK is simply because the UK has no standing in fooball. And pipelinks are used to show the clubs more commonly used name, so we don't have to see "F.C." all the time. Cheers, Mattythewhite 11:19, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've only edited the people from Sunderland category, no others footballers. I changed England only as a country of birth, not - of course - the national team, I hope. Cheers. -- Barliner talk 12:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Missing image Image:12SSHJinsig.png.svg
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:12SSHJinsig.png.svg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:12SSHJinsig.png.svg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:12SSHJinsig.png.svg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Why do you delete my addition to the real time stratege?
[edit]It is not mass links, nor spam! It is just extra information and highly related to the topic. It is there before but removed by accident. (thought was in ref section but actually it is not!) Remove it result in less information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.62.48.136 (talk) 18:01, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:NPD-logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:NPD-logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:31, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect sort keys
[edit]Don't be running around changing DEFAULTSORT keys to make articles sort incorrectly in their categories, especially when you do so by hiding this away with a nasty template which hides the DEFAULTSORT from view, so your change is hidden away and less likely to be noticed by other editors, as you did here in the Bernd Gröne article.
Furthermore, that {{BD}} template accomplished nothing which was not already there before you added it, since Category:1963 births and Category:Living people were already there as was the DEFAULTSORT now hidden away by the template. There was no good reason to be using it in the first place.
Could you please fix this problem if you have done the same thing to other articles? Gene Nygaard (talk) 14:13, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see no reason why you choose to ascribe ulterior motives to my use of a template. Further I would pointout that you now sort the page incorrectly. I have corrected it. -- Barliner talk 14:35, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, while a case can be made for your sorting in the English language, it is my sorting that is correct according to Wikipedia:Categorization and Wikipedia:Categorization of people, at least when they discussed this as they still should, though I don't find it now. Since no contrary indication is their now, there is no reason to assume a change in the prior guidelines. It doesn't really matter for our purposes, but my sorting would also be correct in German but yours is not. Gene Nygaard (talk) 14:44, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
League of Copyeditors roll call
[edit]Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there. The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors. |

Fair use rationale for Image:Karl-Carstens.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Karl-Carstens.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 11:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:User ex-Berlin

This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here
There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. If you would like to help take a browse through Articles needing Importance assessment or Articles needing a basic quality assessment. |

Template BD
[edit]Hi, you did the template BD. Could you help to adapt it for sw:wikipedia? We are very few people over there and none of us is good at a bit more complicated templates. The problem is syntax. In English it is Year-births/deaths. In Swahili it is the other way round: "Category:Waliozaliwa 1822". Waliozaliwa is births, Waliofariki is deaths. I tried but just managed to turn the "Waliozaliwa" around - it does, however, not show in the Category. For Deaths I am in the dark. I appreciate if you find a minute for us. No hurry. http://sw.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:BD --Kipala (talk) 10:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Karl-Carstens.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Karl-Carstens.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? – Quadell (talk) (random) 17:04, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
[edit]Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Speedy deletion
[edit]I notice that you tagged the page The Pavilion (office building) for speedy deletion with the reason "recently created redirect page resulting from a typo or misnomer which is implausible and not common, and is not in another language". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because this redirect was not created recently. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:RFD process. Thanks! Time for resolution
[edit]Hiya. For several months now, the article naming for 18th Century British royals has been ever-which-where — all over the shop. In an attempt to solve this, I have prepared a page for discussion: here. Please, please, please come and discuss, even contribute to the Poll. Cheers! DBD 15:29, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Category:Heinrich Hoffman in NARA public domain images
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Heinrich Hoffman in NARA public domain images, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Category:Heinrich Hoffman in NARA public domain images|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 78.53.51.85 (talk) 18:25, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Notification of the upcoming Wikimedia relicensing
[edit]In case you are not aware, the Free Software Foundation has added terms to the GFDL 1.3 allowing the relicensing of certain content under the CC-BY-SA 3.0, and the community has approved with 75.8% in favor that this permission be used to dual-license all Wikimedia wikis under both licenses. On June 15, 2009, this change will take effect. This note is to let you know that {{WikimediaNoLicensing}} does not affect the relicensing of your contributions in this manner, as you cannot deny the terms of the GFDL. If you have any comments, please join the discusion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template. Anomie⚔ 16:56, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Barliner! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 315 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Klaus Schütz - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Dietrich Stobbe - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:07, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
