A number of labour strikes were held throughout 2021.
Background
[edit]A labour strike is a work stoppage, caused by the mass refusal of employees to work, usually in response to employee grievances, such as low pay or poor working conditions. Strikes can also take place to demonstrate solidarity with workers in other workplaces or to pressure governments to change policies. Since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, a number of strikes have occurred in responses to social injustices and poor conditions highlighted by the impact of the pandemic.
