- It appears he/she want to change/add to the variants to make it possible to display the 4 different local flags using the same template with different parameters. I agree with that, it would be far easier to use them in articles that way. - MTC 05:58, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Done partial I don't see the value in adding "local-red" and "proposed" variants, as those two flags are not currently used in icon form on any articles. These templates aren't intended to replace articles like Flag of Guadeloupe or serve as a "catalog" of all possible variants, but instead serve as a convenient way to consistently render commonly used images. Therefore, I have added the local and region variants, as those are rendered on several pages each and should be part of this template for that reason. Andrwsc 18:45, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

It seems to me that the flag variant with the red field is nowadays frequently used, e.g. in the main article on Guadeloupe, or in all templates dealing with Guadeloupe (see e.g. Template:Guadeloupe-stub, or the section "file usage" [1]). Would be nice to have access via flagicon, etc. Would like to use it within the articles on the CARIFTA Games (together with the official French flag) to differentiate between athletes from French Guiana, Guadeloupe, and Martinique competing in different teams at the events. - Done I've added it as local2. Hope this name is ok. Let me know if you want a different name. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Add | flag alias-football=Flag of Guadeloupe (local).svg
and | altvar={{{altvar}}}
so that the flag used for association football can automatically display when calling {{Fb}}. S.A. Julio (talk) 00:46, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

National Football team:
| name = {{{name|}}}<br>
| variant = {{{variant|}}}
| altlink = {{{altlink|}}}
| altvar = {{{altvar|}}}
<noinclude>
| var1 = Local
| var2 = french
| var3 = UPLG
| redir1 = GLP
</noinclude>
I propose adding the French flag GLP as an alternate link for Guadeloupe football teams, given that CONCACAF primarily uses the French flag in their competitions. Therefore, this option should be available as well. Additionally, the UPLG flag ()—which was prominently displayed by Guadeloupean fans at stadiums during CONCACAF tournaments—should also be included as an alternative. Both flags represent significant symbols for the Guadeloupean community and should be reflected in the options. instead of the colonialist flag.

- @Lunar Spectrum96: I'm not sure that fans waiving a flag is a valid reason to include it in the template. I've notified Talk:Guadeloupe and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Caribbean/Guadeloupe work group to hopefully get some more input on this. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 15:01, 27 September 2024 (UTC) - Partly done: "french" was added as a variant, but I have not added UPLG yet (see the #More variants section above for objections to including the UPLG flag). I have also notified Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 18:05, 7 October 2024 (UTC)- I would have to say that just because fans use that flag, doesn't make it official that we should use it in the template. We don't use the Union Jack for England in 1966 even if thats what most people waved in the crowd for example. So I would not be in favour of including the UPLG flag in the template unless the Guadeloupe football association or the legislature formally adopt it as the official flag.
