Style of table

Any particular reason we have changed from the new style (as it was at 08:36, 22 July 2018‎) - to an old format that has been abandoned by everybody else. Also note that the descriptions (under the table) are confusing (with "eliminated" just hanging there with no context). I note that these outdated formats have also proliferated in the T20 World Cup pages - it's not 2010 anymore. 58.111.212.231 (talk) 07:18, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

My query about the "Style of table" focuses on the last column headed "Qualification". My query is this: Would the text in the green box for the CURRENT TOP FOUR (my emphasis) be easier to understand if it read "These four will advance to the semi-finals based on latest results only" or similar qualified notation. Changed again

The template has been edited by someone who seems to have missed the changes made to Wikipedia since 2015 to add (Q) for qualified and leaving the colours constant. Also there should be a (H) = Host tag as well 42.62.207.8 (talk) 08:22, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Clinched / eliminated from semi-finals?

Does the table have provision for indicating that teams have clinched a semi-final berth, or are eliminated? As the table stands I find it quite strange, it reads as if the top 4 are already through to the semi-finals, and the bottom 6 have already been eliminated. Adpete (talk) 01:13, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Yes, use the |status_ENG=H, adding Q when a team secures a semi-final berth or E when they are eliminated. They can all probably then be removed once the tournament is over. Spike 'em (talk) 07:49, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

I think it would help to have the text "(Q) Qualified, (E) Eliminated" at the bottom of the table next to "(H) Host". I also think "Eliminated" in the right hand column of the table is redundant, and I haven't seen it in comparable tables e.g. Template:2018–19 Premier League table, Template:AFL Ladder/2019, 2018–19 NBA season#By_conference. Rules for classification

What is the source for the "rules for classification" line? The template gives:

1) Points; 2) Wins; 3) Net run rate; 4) Results of games between tied teams; 5) Pre-tournament seeding

But I can't find any source for that. And according to the document "ICC MEN’S ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL PLAYING CONDITIONS", downloaded from https://www.icc-cricket.com/about/cricket/rules-and-regulations/playing-conditions , section 16.10.1, it should be:

1) Points; 2) Wins; 3) Results of games between tied teams; 4) Net Run Rate

Section 16.10.1 of the CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019 PLAYING CONDITIONS states:

In the event of teams finishing on equal points in the League Stage, the ordering of teams will be decided in the following order of priority:

• The team with the most wins in the League Stage will be placed in the higher position.
• If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the League Stage then in such case the teams will be ordered according to their net run rate in the League Stage matches (refer to 16.10.4 below for the calculation of net run rate).
• If there are teams that are still equal, they will be ordered according to the result(s) of the head to head match(es) played between them (points, then if still equal, net run rate in those matches).
• If the above does not resolve the League Stage ordering and there are teams that are still equal, the teams will be ordered as per their League Stage seedings.
• If all matches in the League Stage produce no results the teams will be ordered as per their League Stage seedings and the top 4 seeded teams will progress to Semi-Finals. Spike 'em (talk) 12:04, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Net Run Rate?

Seeing as this is the first implementation of the module, what are people's thoughts on the NRR calculations? Would it be better to just have one field to enter an externally calculated NRR rather than maintain 4 separate values? The maths routine that calculates the NRR does not put a + at the start, though it should not be difficult to add if people want it. As a counterpoint to the above, neither Cricinfo nor BBC have a + sign on their table.

Qualification status colors only after confirmation

Made a good faith change to the table where the qualification status and subsequent background colors    or    are only displayed after a team has a 100% confirmed spot in the semi-finals or is 100% mathematically confirmed to be eliminated from the tournament. Hope it helps! Cheers everyone.

The sports table module is used in many other sports articles without problems so I'm going to revert those changes. Letters get added to teams once they qualify / get eliminated. Spike 'em (talk) 05:44, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

I just think it's incredibly misleading to highlight the top 4 teams in green so early in the tournament. No team has a confirmed spot in the semi final yet. Anyone second this opinion? Vote? Kvwiki1234 (talk) 06:38, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

I agree it is missleading. It makes it look like its completed. The background colour should be blue for the advance positions and only change to green when advance is locked in - as this is the final colour. The system we have now doesn't make sense... we add "A" and "E", but then remove them after everyone has "A" and "E"? Bizarre. Dacium (talk) 07:06, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

It is possible to change the colours row-by-row, but as mentioned, this table is based on modules used in plenty of other sporting events that do the same thing. I accept that moving from how cricket tables used to be processed may cause a bit of confusion, but the table will be around for a lot longer than the tournament lasts, so I would say that what it looks like after the tournament happens is more important. The system we have now does make sense... we add "A" and "E" on a temporary basis, but then remove them after group stage has been completed.
