Usage
[edit]- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from personal names and Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from personal names are usually not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy. See below for what to do for those few personal-name redirects that are printworthy.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from personal name}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
}}
- Use the DEFAULTSORT magic word to ensure that the redirect is sorted in the categories by surname rather than given name.
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{R from personal name}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag any redirect from a subject's personal name, if other than a birth name, to its corresponding common name. If the redirect title is the subject's birth name, then use {{R from birth name}} instead.
- By default, this template categorizes a redirect as unprintworthy. To subdue this default sort and categorize a personal name as printworthy, use the unnamed parameter in the following manner:
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from personal name|1=printworthy}}
{{R printworthy}}
}}
- or the
1=
may be omitted:
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from personal name|printworthy}}
{{R printworthy}}
}}
- and if used individually:
{{R from personal name|printworthy}}
{{R printworthy}}
- That will subdue the default Unprintworthy redirects category and populate Category:Printworthy redirects.
- Important note: If this is the personal name of a living person, then one or more reliable sources must be included either in the target article or on the talk page of the redirect. This is in accord with Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy, which applies to all pages on the project, to include redirects. Any personal-name redirect that does not have a reliable source(s) to support the personal name may be speedily deleted as a BLP violation.
- The following phrase,
... or else this redirect's talk page must be created and the reference(s) added there,
will appear in the rcat text if the redirect does not have an existing talk page (if it is red-linked).- Example: Samuel ClemensMark Twain
- The following phrase,
