Template:R from alternative military designation/sandbox
This is the template sandbox page for Template:R from alternative military designation (diff). |
This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Purpose
[edit]This tag should be used in cases where an aircraft, vehicle, or item is best known by (and the target page titled by) a military designation, but is alternatively known by other designations assigned by a military force. For instance, the Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was originally designated Grumman AO-1 Mohawk by the United States Army, and Grumman OF Mohawk by the United States Marine Corps. This tag is placed on the redirects.
In cases where an aircraft, vehicle or item is best known by (and titled by) a civilian designation, but is also known by military designations, use {{R from military designation}} on all military-designation redirects to the civilian names. For those redirects where the alternative designation is a subtype of a primary or parent type after which the page is titled, use {{R from variant military designation}}.
Usage
[edit]- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from alternative military designations and Category:Printworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from other military designations are suitable for a printed version. In other words they are printworthy.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from alternative military designation}}
{{R printworthy}}
}}
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{R from alternative military designation}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect from an alternative military designation to a common name of an aircraft, vehicle, or other item best known by a different military designation.
