National Covenant
- ... that the National Covenant was signed after protests possibly started by Jenny Geddes throwing a stool at the dean of St Giles and in turn led to the Bishops' Wars? Source: "There is no doubt that the riot in St Giles's was started by women, and a near-contemporary anonymous satire mentions a woman who 'did cast a stoole' at the dean of St Giles's" - source describes Jenny Geddes as one who may have thrown the stool. "Their actions triggered a series of bloody wars. Initially at least, the success of the covenanters in the Bishops’ Wars"
- ALT1:... that the National Covenant committed its signatories to uphold the king's authority, but Charles I viewed it as an act of rebellion? Source: "The Covenant also committed the signatories to uphold the king's authority" and "To Charles there could be no doubt that his Scottish subjects were engaged in rebellion. They had disobeyed his proclamations, banded together in a covenant against him..."
- Comment: This feels like one which might read better without the word 'that'. Is there actually a rule which requires this?

- CSJJ104, the format rules for the hook can be seen at WP:DYKHOOK. I don't see anything that explicitly says that "that" has to begin the hook, but then again I may have overlooked it. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 21:23, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't either. I am adding the following two hooks to the proposal which would be my preference. They are the same as above, just with the word that omitted. CSJJ104 (talk) 17:43, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

- It would help if you didn't stack the hook so much:
- ALT0a: * ... that the National Covenant was signed after protests possibly started by Jenny Geddes throwing a stool at the dean of St Giles? Yoninah (talk) 13:53, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- This article is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. I take no view about omitting "that" from the hook. All the hooks are approved but I prefer ALT0a over the original hook as being less wordy. No QPQ needed here. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:25, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
