Azande witchcraft
[edit]- ... that in Azande witchcraft, witches harvest the soul of a victim and feast upon it in a gathering? "When intending to harm their chosen victim the most common procedure of witches is to dispatch the soul of their witchcraft..., which (mostly) at night passes through the air, enters the victim, and slowly removes the soul of his flesh. This will then later be devoured during a feast held by the witches, for they are thought to combine in their activities and form a sort of association."
- ALT1:... that among the Azande, the "poison oracles" feed poison to a chicken to determine if witchcraft is used on someone? "In the poison oracle, a poisonous substance known as benge is administered to a chicken..."
- Reviewed: I'll do one, as the nominator.
- Comment: Note: we moved this to mainspace on 5 March, but I didn't noticed I had gotten pinged about the hook. I hope/trust that this won't be too much of a problem.

- I am willing to review this, but not right now, weather too nice. What I noticed was the beginning, "Witchcraft for the Azande", that sounds like witchcraft is good for the Azande, like "someone for governor", - I guess it should mean "For the Azande, witchcraft means/is ...? + we need a link to Azande, early. I never heard of them. Looks like you did your qpq ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:41, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you Gerda Arendt. For the record, it was Template:Did you know nominations/Kirchenlied--you should read that article, very interesting. Anyway, the lateness of this class assignment, I missed a ping, and I was busy on my sock account; BlueMoonset knows about it, and thinks I may expect leniency from the reviewer. Thanks. Yes, I see that it may need some work, but I had to get this up on time. YoungWizard will get on this imminently, no doubt. Thanks again Gerda! Dr Aaij (talk) 15:10, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- No rush ;) - I wonder if the article even has the best name, - could think of Witchcraft (Azande). The the lead could start then: Witchcraft means to the Azande (Zande people). Will look closer now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- I saw now, that all sources are via jstor, so can only access the abstracts. Any chance that you could mail me the articles? Two sources seem to the same, just different pages. It would be even better to point to a single page for a certain fact. The wording of that source, Witchcraft among the Azande is ... - that could also start the article. I don't think it's too close paraphrasing, - it's just the most precise way to say it. oracle should be linked the first time, and I think not be capitalized. I am so used to witches being female that I was surprised to read they can be both genders. I am waiting for someone telling me I'm a witch. We had warrior, monster, "her flashmob" and groupie already ;) - would you know a good (funny) image for groupie? I took one for monster. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:35, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, I feel that I can't review without access to at least one source, sorry. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:49, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, I'm so sorry I forgot to pay attention to the pings. YGM in a minute or two. YoungWizard, it is time to really get busy on this article and get it ready for primetime. Dr Aaij (talk) 01:19, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the mail, received, but I have to do a few time-related things first, look for Easter on this page, for example, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:21, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
- Back, I let go of one Easter attempt, that helps. Dr Aaij, now I need help with understanding a topic that is completely new to me. The article says: "Witchcraft is present in every aspect of Zande society." Should that perhaps be "The belief in witchcraft is present in every aspect of Zande society."? - I think, whatever the answer, that line should be in the lead. I didn't understand any of the lead without some basis like that. - No references need to be in the lead for facts with a ref in the article. - The scientific language of the pdfs is quite challenging. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:02, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, Gerda Arendt. Before you mentioned on my article that it would be better if the title was changed to Witchcraft (Azande). Is there a way I could change the title or would I have to move the article to a new page? YoungWizard (talk) 19:23, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
- User:YoungWizard, I'm fine with the name; I don't think we need to move it. I do think you should continue to make copyedits and see if there is room for clarification and expansion here, there, and everywhere. Dr Aaij (talk) 00:03, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- BlueMoonset, when do we give up on this? YoungWizard, the clock is ticking. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:53, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- This has gone on for two months without any progress. The nominator seems no longer interested in this. Not even a complete or even partial review was performed. Just reading the introduction shows a lot of problematic issues ("...is evil magic used to inflict harm on an individual and is the cause of all unusual or terrible events that take place" gives a reader the indication that magic is real). Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and the tone of the article is not encyclopedic. It sounds like a badly written school paper no offense to the creator. Please study how other articles on the same subject are written (see Category:Witchcraft) and also get a copyeditor to look at this article for tone at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests if there is any interest in pursuing this further.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:30, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
