Apple dumpling
- ... that when Pehr Kalm explored North America in the mid-1700s, he reported being served apple dumplings (pictured) at every meal? Source: The Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America, Volume 1: "botanist Per Kalm, touring from New Jersey to Quebec in 1749-1750, found apple dumplings at every meal"

- Comment: Welcome The Rambling Man to review, if he's up for it. This article needs serious help, but I was going to run out of time so I went ahead and nom'd. If it's hopeless, it won't hurt my feelings!
5x expanded by Valereee (talk). Self-nominated at 20:51, 12 August 2019 (UTC).
- A few [citation needed] tags need to be addressed before we get to passing this nomination. The article has been vastly improved (and meets the fivefold expansion requirement), there's no obvious sign of copyvio, I really do like the hook, but I'll focus on that in due course. One last thing, I wonder if the "preparation" gallery of images would benefit from some explanatory text? The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:34, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- Dealt with the cn's, which were primarily for the parts of the original article that still remained. A few were prep/ingredient/serving details, and I had to source to cookbooks etc. When I do that I generally try to source to the narrative sections, but occasionally ingredient details can only be found in ingredient lists within an actual recipe. In these cases I try to source from respected cookbooks and to make sure a particular ingredient assertion is traditional/non-controversial. --valereee (talk) 14:46, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
remarkably straight forward. Article is good condition, hook is interesting about what, at face value, is quite a banal subject. Good work. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 14:22, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- The Rambling Man, thank you for the review! Yep, not a particularly fascinating food. Not expecting huge numbers of page views lol! --valereee (talk) 16:13, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- The only parting shot I'd offer is that the selected image is a little odd (with ice cream) given the historical nature of the hook we're promoting... The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 16:15, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- Do you think this would work better? It's not very colorful. Probably isn't going to get selected for an image slot, I suspect. There are just too many beautiful or interesting non-bio images. --valereee (talk) 16:21, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- Well you're right, the one you originally selected is more eye-catching... I'd keep with your best instincts! Good luck. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:16, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
