– We don't need so many articles with Chinese disambiguators. Yinweiaiqing (talk) 03:58, 13 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 06:55, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Merge as Xu (surname). All these people are commonly known as Xu or Hsu in English transliteration. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:55, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Looks like this was a combined page back in 2020 before it was split out by a now blocked user. Natg 19 (talk) 01:10, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose merging, as these are separate surnames, even though they have similar English romanizations. However, the romanizations do depend on the Chinese dialect, as 徐 can be romanized as Xu, Hsu, Chui, Tsui, Choi, Chee (to name a few); and 許 could be romanized as Xu, Hsu, Hui, Hoi, Hua, Koh. Natg 19 (talk) 01:14, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- But not in English and this is English Wikipedia. Both current and proposed disambiguation are meaningless to English-speakers. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:00, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- comment What should the separate article Xú (surname) it will became soon?. Andre Farfan (talk) 19:10, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- After more thought, oppose move, as there is a precedent for these page name types: see the many articles listed in List of surnames romanized Li. Using the diacritics (accent marks) is not a clear way to distinguish between these 2 surnames. Natg 19 (talk) 01:25, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per longstanding consensus from the RFC on this very subject Talk:List_of_surnames_romanized_Li#RFC_regarding_multiple_Chinese_surnames_transliterated_to_the_same_surname_in_English.
