P2P Vs. Dedicated Servers
There needs to be more talk on this, i know it varys from game to game but i think major games should be specified on which they use. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.103.233.174 (talk) 07:26, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Two price tables?
Is there any particular reason there's two price tables? One with the prices in the original currency and one with the price in USD. It seems to have been added on October 21st in this edit, but I wanted to check here before taking it out, since it's been in so long. Just seems kind of... redundant? Possibly misleading if the exchange rates changed? Whatever, I guess. --Ryajinor (talk) 23:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- So you're the guy who removed my tables? Alright, now I know who to hate. That was a lot of work, and it was because it was INTERESTING to see how much more or less people in other countries were paying. --TIB (talk) 23:40, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- ...Feel free to put it back, if you want? --Ryajinor (talk) 00:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
The reason being that its a scam. If you look at the cost MS charge you, then look at the exchange rates, its much more expensive to buy MS points in europe, for example.86.16.153.191 (talk) 12:00, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Possible copyright violation: "Holiday 2007 Issues" section
The majority of the section titled "Holiday 2007 Issues", originally added by 70.15.10.90 on January 3, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST (revision 181874708), appears to have been copied and pasted from a GameSpot article at http://www.gamespot.com/news/6184221.html, possibly in violation of a copyright (see: Wikipedia:Copyright violations). As such, I have tagged the section with the {{copypaste}} template.
Please re-write this section or remove it. Thanks. lightsup55 ( T | C ) 20:01, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

- Yeah, I agree with every word you said. Though I do want to note that I only noticed that the section was copied from that GameSpot article only after I added the reference to it. I'll see if I can re-write the section myself sometime later today as I do believe that it is very notable for inclusion to the article. lightsup55 ( T | C ) 20:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Differences Between Memberships
What are the differences between memberships? Can you download add-ons with a silver membership? 76.126.35.84 (talk) 18:59, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

That's not general discussion. This is: I don't care how long ago this was written, but "can you download add-ons with a silver membership" seems like a valid question to me (I think the answer to the question is now in the article). The Xbox Live Silver and Xbox Live Gold Comparison table needs updating. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/goldBenefits.htm - Should these line items be added to the table - Gold Member content, Play XBox Originals On-Line, Provide Player Feedback Hoovie (talk) 21:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
I Still see something I think should be fixed in the Comparison table. currently for downloadable content it indicates 2 that "Some content available one week after Gold subscribers" - but there is some content that is only available to Gold Subscribers, should this #2 clause read "Some content only available to Gold subscribers, and some available one week after Gold subscribers" Hoovie (talk) 20:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Xladb.jpg
Image:Xladb.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I wondering if we can list the Achievemts of the Xbox 360 games. Not say showing the serets one but have it listed like this. Or some thing like this.

- I'm not really sure how we can find something more reputable on a subject like this. Some minor criticism of the cancellation procedures isn't likely to make the pages of a newspaper or publications of a similar stature. There is a mention about issues in cancelling the automatic subscription. However, the impossibility to remove credit card details in general (by other means than calling MS) could be better covered. A whole subtopic perhaps? 195.148.49.204 (talk) 12:44, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
I think it may be that end users are confused. You do not need to cancel your account, just down grade to silver level. All of this can be done with the website at billing.microsoft.com - yo can change auto-renew, stop your gold membership, as well as add and remove payment methods, including credit cards. Serious Question
Is it just me... or is this article a load of rubbish? It talks for paragraphs and paragraphs about Xbox Live's "members" and how many have "subscribed" and how Microsoft "celebrates" these victories and all that jazz... and then it says that this counts Silver users!!! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Silver users HAVE NOT paid for the service and CANNOT play online - it's just a gimmick that comes with every Xbox, so I believe it is extremely misleading and deceitful to talk about a subscription online gaming service and count people who HAVE NOT subscribed and cannot play games on it! Please, please, please tell us how many people USE and PAY FOR Xbox live, that is, how many Gold members there are - that's what people come here to find out (due to internet rumours that only 5-10% of Xbox users pay for Live) - but instead the article completely misleads them unless you read very closely, right to the end, and realise it's all a load of rubbish and the number just represent how many Xboxes are sold. --DreamsReign (talk) 20:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Good Article Review
Hey, I was the reviewer for the GAN for Xbox Live. I found a few problems, but overall I must say it was pretty good. Being an XBOX 360 owner with Live, I know a lot about this subject and to be honest there are several aspects missing. For one, hardly anything was mentioned about achievements on XBOX Live. Achievements are a large part of XBOX Live, and I could understand it because I play a lot on XBOX Live, but to someone say wanting to buy an XBOX 360 and is looking at the Live article, they would be very confused. Another thing, why isn't there a redirect for xbox 360 live. I remember when I first came looking on Wikipedia for a XBOX Live article, I typed in XBOX 360 Live, obviously I got it from search but it should still be there. A few things to work on, I think its good, but I still want a second opinion. Good Luck when the second reviewer reviews, and good day. Warrior4321talkContribs 22:06, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- You can always put the article on hold and inform the editors that they have a week to work out the issues, in your case, expand the achievement section of the article (with reliable refs of course). Alos, Redirect pages are easy to make and should be no hassle at all, just tell the editors about the pages that need redirects. Hope that helps. -- Noj r (talk) 22:12, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Too late now, I'll just go with the second opinion. Warrior4321talkContribs 01:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
2nd opinion

Xbox Live vs. Xbox LIVE

No Dedicated Server (Criticism)
Source: http://play.tm/story/7410
Having no dedicated servers (unlike PC gaming) should be commented on VTNC (talk) 16:34, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Dedicated servers are game specific. Some game developer companies provide dedicated servers for their XBox 360 titles. Some games have the ability to run as servers, without gameplay on that console. The same holds true for other console platforms. Hoovie (talk) 17:03, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- The claim that "lack of dedicated servers" constitutes criticism is itself in dispute. It's a urban-myth generated from the opinion that anything MS does it "bad and worthy of criticism". Not having dedicated servers is an advantage in many regards. A dicussion of dedicated vs. user-hosted may be worthwhile, but adding a "CRITICISM" section is A) unnecessary, B) contrary to the reality of the situation and C) against wikipedia general style guidelines.
There ARE dedicated PC Server softwares for some titles.
Free month with new account, not new console
The article states that "Every new Xbox 360 comes with a 1 month subscription to Xbox Live Gold" which is false as every new account comes with a 1 month subscription to Xbox Live Gold. Each console comes with a set number of free months for new accounts. Let me rephrase, a new console will come with the ability for 6 new accounts to each have one free month of gold membership. Critique of the "New Xbox Experience?"
I'm one of the most ardent "anti-advertisement" people on Wikipedia I think, and I have to say that the "New Xbox Experience" section kinda reads like an advertisement. Its mainly in that for all the whining by users that the new layout is rubish on forums, to the critique of it even in popular webcomics (CAD sillies for one), and negative aspects of some reviews, I don't see any sort of criticism of the New Xbox Experience layout.
Is there a good reason for this, or has it just not been added yet? Scryer_360 (talk) 18:33, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- True. Please also see the article: Xbox 360 System Software which may be more appropriate as it talks about the system software and not the Xbox LIVE service. Philhower (talk) 21:41, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- Especially when at the time the NXE download was heavily criticized, even by gaming magazines. The NXE setup was, and still is, considered inferior to the earlier setup. Avatars were considered and unnecessary annoyance and were seen as a rip-off of Nintendo's Mii characters. If anyone has game magazines from those months, it would be easy to find criticism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.113.8.138 (talk) 17:48, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
No Criticisms?
I find it odd that there was very little mention of anything negative in this article. I was most surprised by no discussion on criticisms of XBox Live concerning the frequently profane nature of communications between users with very little in the way of controls. But there are certainly other criticisms of it as well. Is this simply because nobody has attempted to add an article section on it? Or does Microsoft patrol this article and make sure that any criticisms get removed? I'm not trying to pick a fight, but hey, I think it warrants discussion. Porphyrous (talk) 17:58, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Gamertags linked to deactivated Windows Live IDs become impossible to recover
Basically the problem is that if a Windows Live ID is not used regularly, it is deleted from the Windows Live ID (Passport) database. However, the Xbox LIVE Gamertag still thinks it is associated with that non-existant Windows Live ID. The problem is that even if you recreate the Windows Live ID with the same email address that new Windows Live ID doesn't know about the Gamertag in return, making the gamertag unrecoverable or upgradable.
What gets worse is that this creates a catch-22. It is impossible to recover the Gamertag or to change the Windows Live ID associated with the Gamertag because the corresponding Windows Live ID either does not exist or if it is recreated does not point back to the Gamertag. Talking to support, everyone with this issue is told they will never again be able to recover their gamertag as there is currently no way to fix this broken association between the Gamertag and the non-existant or recreated Windows Live ID. Essentially, the gamertag is 'corrupted'
In my personal case I have Xbox 360 Zero Hour assets in my gamertag that I can't recover, but others that are having this problem are faring much worse, including losing their ability to upgrade to Gold Membership and losing their access to their credits that they paid cash for. Note that in some places online it is incorrectly explained that this only applies to Hotmail-based Windows Live IDs, but it applies to all Windows Live IDs as even mine was deleted due to inactivity.

Neutral Point of View
Various statements seem more of the author's opinion rather than just stating the facts. For example:
When referring to the beginning ideas that turned into Xbox Live, the article states "Steve Balmer and Bill gates both had a vision of making overpriced downloads and add-ons that will attract lots of new buying customers to make them money."
When referring to the Microsoft Points given on Xbox Live's 5th anniversary, the article states "This however turned out to be a scam that tricked angry customer into the world of overpriced gaming"
These seem like opinions rather than statements of fact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Entrpy (talk • contribs) 06:08, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

This whole article is practically an advertisement. I mean in addition to it reading as an advertisement the little bit of critisism (Specifically the I guess you could say attitude against homosexuality) is incomplete. Or at least doesn't portray the whole thing properly. I mean if you read this article, then play xbox live, you have to wonder if Microsoft wrote this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.207.32.143 (talk) 23:00, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Disagree completely. The policy regarding sexual content on LIVE is orientation-agnostic. The policy is "no sexual content", NOT "no homosexual content". You're intentionally mischaracterizing the situation. The rest of your argument is clearly spacious. The article is overly-negative balanced in my opinion. Considering LIVE's features and position in the market -- that it is widely accepted as leaps-and-bounds ahead of the other comparative offerings, I would suggest this article shows too much restraint and nit-picking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.183.18.79 (talk) 19:41, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
"Live" should be changed to "LIVE" article-wide
It is clear that [[5]] the brand is "LIVE" and not "Live". The article should be changed -- in total -- to reflect this.

There has been an entry for a xbox live user named "Diamondice25" who describes (himself?) as "controversial". This is nothing more then an advertisement for himself, and should be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.181.152.3 (talk) 14:21, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Gamerscore totals
In this section, it says Halo 3 is the only game with more than 1250G. Gears of War 2 has 1425G, and Fallout 3 has 1350G.
The last sentences should be (no quotes):
"These possible totals per game have been raised to 1250G, but there are exceptions. Halo 3 has 1750G, Gears of War 2 has 1425G, and Fallout 3 has 1350G. The Arcade games' totals have been raised to 250G, see below."

Incorrect info RE: Zones
"There are four Gamer Zones; Recreation is for casual gamers, Family is for family-friendly gamers (without profanity, etc.), Pro is for competitive gamers who enjoy a challenge, and Underground ... However, in practice these gamer zones are only displayed on the Gamercard of the player, and don't tend to impact on the gameplay experience or the matching of players in online games."
Is inaccurate. The Zones do affect who you play with, to wit see [6] it says;
"The Zone you join helps tell others the kind of player you are - in fact, they can see it on your Gamercard. It's another step that __ensures you're matched with like-minded players.__"
The word "matched" in this context does not mean "self select".
Further, it says;
"Pick a zone and meet lots of like-minded people."
Ie: You are _matched_ with people from your zone.
This sentence "However, in practice...and don't tend to impact on the gameplay experience or the matching of players in online games." is incorrect.
Additionally, it is uncited and in clear contradiction of the source I provide here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.47.86.27 (talk) 08:54, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

How many xbox live subscribers are there?
So what's an Dick?
The article Achievement links to Achievement (Xbox 360) which links to the "Gamerscore" subsection of this Xbox Live article. What do the "Achievements" in my Fallout 3 and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 PC games have to do with Xbox? (forgive me I've never played or even touched an xbox) --70.143.54.203 (talk) 21:16, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Each achievement is worth a bit of gamerscore. The gamerscore is a rough metric that you can use to compare with others. You can drill down to compare achievements among friends for individual games. –xenotalk 21:41, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- But I don't have an Xbox live account and never saw "gamerscore" before reading this article. The "Little Rocket Man" achievement in HL2 is pretty funny though. --70.142.41.253 (talk) 20:28, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

How many GOLD members?
Microsoft says there are 17 million XBL subscribers, but I think they are counting the free Silver accounts too, right? How many are the paid Gold accounts? Perhaps another way of asking -- how many members are playing other members? Thats what they are good for. Achievements and a users Gamerscore is nothing more than that individuals personal "High Score" over time. If you complete a game it does not necessarily indicate that you have completed all aspects of the title. Thats where Achievements come in, an attempt to bridge the gap between simply finishing a game and completing all aspects of one. Does the Gamerscore section of the article need a more simplistic explanation of this? Not in my opinion. Hoovie (talk) 01:51, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Xbox Live bans accounts with modified consoles
Should this recent action by microsoft be added to the article? As it appears to effect about 1% of xbox live accounts as depending on source it seems to be ranging between 600,000 to a million users. Apparantly this crackdown follows the availability of pirate copies of modern warfare 2 which became available about a week before the official launch. This seems to be a policy change of microsoft as if i remember when Halo 3 was leaked microsoft banned accounts if they caught the game being played early. However microsoft have stated that the bans were appropriate action as modded consols breach the terms and conditions of the users policy of xbox live, whats the thought amongst eveeryone? --Delta33 (talk) 17:17, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Redirect from Halo: Waypoint
There is no reason why Halo: Waypoint should be re-directed here. The Halo: Waypoint is a completely seperate portal on live that applies only to those that play the Halo games (i.e. Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars). Given it doesn't have much to offer yet but it will soon. It should have it's own article, not a redirect to XBOX Live.

I created Halo Waypoint yesterday while in school because it was dumb for it to not have a wiki when it is in itself it's own application and technically another addition to the Halo series. Zune: Gold vs Silver; Video/Music Marketplace
In the table of Gold vs Silver features, Zune is listed as "No" for the Silver-level (free) Live membership level. This is incorrect, as one does not have to have a Gold membership to purchase or rent media via Zune from their Xbox 360. Indeed, as was mentioned above, Zune has replaced Video & Music Marketplaces on Xbox Live. However, some Zune features on Xbox 360 may be available only with a Gold membership; the only example I know of is Movie Parties. Perhaps the sections on the Video and Music Marketplaces should be revised to explain the transition to Zune, with which benefits having a Gold membership entail for Zune on Xbox Live. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.118.174.14 (talk) 22:54, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Availability misinformation
People keep adding their countries they live in to section of article as "countries that xbox Live coming into soon", but it's not true. I talk about this line (especially Brazil, Greece, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia and South Africa). Pakistan and Romania don't even have have their section on xbox.com forums and stite itself, wile other countries in this list have (i.e. xbox.com/ru-RU/ for Russia, xbox.com/pl-PL/ for poland etc), but Pakistan and Romania are not in this list, as well as they don't have section in Xbox Intenation Forums.
If they don't have their section on xbox.com, they don't have official support in their countries of Xbox itself, as it was in Poland in Russia before Microsoft officialy launched console only in May 2006, same month these countries were added to xbox.com and its forums.

- Also, technically with those request templates you are supposed to tell us exactly what you want to change (i.e. the wording you want to use etc.). - Actually it isn't - both "have" and "has" are accepted forms. I believe "has" (referring to the company as an entity) is generally more common in the US, while "have" (referring to the company as a group of people) is more common in the UK. AFAIK though both are accepted forms in both countries (and presumably other English speaking countries), just not used very often. i recently purchased the xbox w/ kinect and signed up for the free 1 month subscription. Duringthat time I signed up for netflix streaming service. Since that time my gold membership expired. Status
I'm not quite sure why (possibly has something to do with the PSN outage), but several editors have recently added "online" to the "status" field of the infobox. I'm not sure what that field is intended for (probably things like "shut down"), but as I see it, info such as current online status is inappropriate for an encyclopædia, at least in the form of an infobox item*. Such info can never be properly sourced (as far as I can tell) as any source is accurate only at the time of writing so cannot possibly reflect the current state. The only exception to this is if MS has a part of xbox.com that states what the online status is. If that is the case, might I suggest adding a link to that page, rather than claiming "online" or "offline" based on it as a source, as the link is not stating one way or another whether it is online or not (while a statement such as "online" does).
* to say "it was shut down at time X" or whatever is fine, but to claim to represent the current status is simply dishonest.
Please discuss further at Template talk:Infobox video game online service instead of here so as to get a broader consensus on the subject (this effects multiple pages).

Xbox Play Anywhere
Does anyone else think that Xbox Play Anywhere deserves it's own page (or at least a detailed section in this page)? IWantGears5 (talk) 23:49, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
First-generation Xbox Live
Shouldn't first-generation Xbox Live have its own section? It functioned very differently and was effectively a different service from the Xbox Network that exists now. I've noticed that due to the conflation between first-generation Xbox Live and Xbox Network, many features and capabilities of first-generation Xbox Live are poorly documented and largely glossed over. I had submitted this information to the Xbox Console page and was told to put it here, but the article doesn't really have a dedicated section about First-gen Xbox Live, only its closure and a brief blurb in the history that immediately jumps forward to 360 live.
Xbox Live Features
Xbox Live supported several features which were previously unavailable on consoles. While the Xbox launched in 2001 without any online capability, the Xbox Live service built up interest at E3 2002 and launched on the console's one year anniversary later that year. At E3 2003, Microsoft announced Xbox Live 2.0, a series of new features and platform improvements designed to further the user experience on Xbox Live as well as integration with other Microsoft products. Finally, Microsoft unveiled new features for Xbox Live 3.0 (codenamed Tsunami) at E3 2004. These features largely focused on enabling new social interactions between players.
Xbox Live 1.0
Online Multiplayer: Players could host, join, and spectate matches in various online titles with other players.
Content Download: Additional updates and content were made available to download on Xbox Live, allowing games to add additional features after release.
Scoreboards: Global and regional scoreboards were available for players to compare their skill.
Friends: Many Xbox Live-enabled games allowed players to view and manage their friends list.
Voice: With an Xbox Communicator headset, players could communicate in voice calls while playing online matches.
System Link: Players could hook up multiple Xbox consoles together to create local network sessions for many Xbox titles.
Xbox Live Aware: A feature that enabled Xbox games to display Xbox Live notifications, friends, and statuses while playing offline modes. Only some games integrated this feature.
Xbox Live 2.0
Xbox Live Now: A feature that allowed players to access friends, voice calls, and account information from the Xbox dashboard. Xbox Live Now was added to the Xbox in dashboard version 4920.
XSN Sports: A feature that integrated Microsoft-produced sports games with a website that allowed players to view realtime stats, join tournaments, and leagues.
Live Web: An updated version of the Xbox website that allows players to check their friends list and access informational webpages for various Xbox games.
Xbox Live Alerts: A feature that enabled users to get alerts from Xbox Live when not using their console. It was available on any ||Windows Live Alerts|MSN Alerts|| enabled devices.
Xbox Live 3.0
Clans: A feature that players could use to create dedicated player groups in various Xbox titles. Players could create clan tags to represent their group in matches and on scoreboards.
Competitions: An in-game tournament system that enabled players to facilitate competitive events with other players online.
Online Content Swapping: Xbox Live-hosted storage that games could use to host and access data
Level Playing Field Technology: A set of features to identify and reduce cheating in online matches
MSN Messenger Integration: A feature to allow for viewing friends lists, statuses, and Xbox Live notifications within MSN Messenger. Integration was added in MSN Messenger 7.0.
Voicemail: The ability to send voice messages to friends in the Xbox Live Now interface. Videomail was announced at E3 2004 but was never implemented into the dashboard.
Video Calls: Video calls through the Xbox VideoChat app. Xbox VideoChat was only ever made available in Japan, but was announced for a late 2004 release date in the United States.
Arcade: Xbox Live Arcade was a disk-based title that hosted a variety of classic titles, offering players the ability to purchase and download new titles off of Xbox Live with a variety of Xbox Live-enabled additions such as online multiplayer and scoreboards.
Events
Several online events were held to encourage players to subscribe and engage with Xbox Live. Each week, Microsoft would host Xbox Live Prime Time, a series of nightly game nights in which players would meet up in specific genre titles and play online. In addition to XSN Sports tournaments and in-game competitions, Microsoft also held dedicated game nights with celebrities under the name Game With Fame. Celebrities featured included Phantom Planet, The Strokes, The Crystal Method, Fefe Dobson, Kings of Leon, Korn, Hoobastank, A New Found Glory, and Thrice.
