This needs a reception section

[edit]

This needs critical reviews and sale figures inside a reception section.-70.126.2.187 (talk) 01:51, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The real issue with this game is that it stopped in the middle. No end, just cuts and to be continued. Feels bad if you paid for it. It feels 100% like you have paid for half the game. I think it was one of the real major flaws —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.176.195.83 (talk) 17:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

The reasons for merge, are funnily enough listed at the merge page--ZayZayEM 01:14, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also, that page says If you disagree with a "merge" indication then you can remove it. No need to get all sardonic about it. I will discuss this at the merge page if you like. Andre (talk) 01:24, May 1, 2005 (UTC)
Just to let you guys know... the game XIII and comic XIII are different. The video game and comic has distinctive differences because of the media it is published on, and should stay as two serperate articles. --Randy 00:28, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Andre (talk) 04:13, May 2, 2005 (UTC)

  • XIII (game) and XIII (comic) are both the same story, just different mediums. The comic article in particular cannot hold its own very well in its current form. The could be merged to XIII, and if necessary at a later date XIII (disambiguation) could be created (as of now only "XIII is Roman numerals for 13" is listed as a seperate idea).--ZayZayEM 04:51, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • XIII is disambiguation page now. (not by my own work, I'm just stating what I see) Phils 21:43, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • A disambiguation page to the two articles I think need to be merged. There is no need for this disambiguation page if the two articles are merged. Many multi-genre fictions (or non-fictions) utilize a central portal page, and only create spin off pages as article content becomes unwieldly. The XIII (comic) page has barely any content (despite being the original form of the media) and I think it would be best to merge the two.--ZayZayEM 00:51, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
        • But the XIII comic stands alone, we just don't have much information on it because it's not in English. Andre (talk) 01:24, May 1, 2005 (UTC)
    • I disagree with merging these two pages. They're not the same. They're different, or rather, different enough to warrant their own articles. They merely need to be expanded. K1Bond007 01:25, May 1, 2005 (UTC)
    • Disagree merging. Story is different (the game is an adaption of the first five issues of the comic with notable storyline deviations). The number page (XIII) should be kept as a disambiguation page and not merged with either article. Jordi· 01:31, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Example of similar article: Berserk which contains bothe the anime and manga although reasonably different (anime deals with one volume of manga only, entire chracters and plot points missing) on the one single page - because they are the same story - and there is not enough information at present to warrant seperate articles for either one. I would not be against the article being farmed out again when information is increased, but at present they do not.--ZayZayEM 01:45, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've done some expansion for the comic. If I can track down my collection, I'll see about adding more on the actual comic itself (i.e. publication dates etc.), as is done for The Adventures of Tintin. The game really is separate and should remain so. Jordi· 02:24, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've noticed, so I guess I'll withdraw this request--ZayZayEM 00:14, 2 May 2005 (UTC) ((NB: I'll remove this if nobody adds to the discussion over the next few days -- if you decide to do it - put a copy on the talk pages of the three XIII pages))[reply]

Picture

[edit]

hey, does anyone else think there sould be a new picture. maybe one that actually has the m rating on it.

I think we should include this as well with the 'M' rating. It gives the reader a more accurate summary of the nature of this game. --Siva1979Talk to me 19:32, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Number I

[edit]

I have removed the paragraph about "Number 1" since he is not really a character in the game. There is already a bit about Walter Sheridan anyway. Thermaland 12:09, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it isn't it not explicitly stated that Sheridan's brother is I? Don't misunderstand, it's the obvious inference, but I'm pretty sure it's never explicitly stated in the game. If, after finishing the game, if you look through your game-related notebooks, the entry for I is still unidentified with a question mark. Isn't that right? If so, the article should at least disclaimer this. Xihr 23:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the paragraph you deleted, you cut out the part where it disclaims that this is never actually stated. Adding a clarification. Xihr 23:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This keeps getting reverted. It is very frustrating -- it is never revealed in the game who Number I is. As the note says, there is a strong implication that it is Wally Sheridan, but it is never actually stated. The game ends with a cliffhanger, for cryin' out loud. Please stop making it inaccurate by incorrectly identifying Number I as Wally Sheridan.  Xihr  07:18, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:XIIIboxcover.jpg

[edit]

Image:XIIIboxcover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

"Never Revealed?"

[edit]

Umm... "Never Revealed" character? There should at least be some kind of description or something. --Marshall T. Williams (talk) 23:56, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is. Read the associated note.  Xihr  03:35, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Kim believes that her husband is still alive"?

[edit]

If I'm not mistaken, it is mentioned that Steve passed away in the chalet in front of her very eyes and Kim was actually the brains behind the dead ringer project; she even helped with the plastic surgery and made the "XIII" tattoo. Therefore, when she was stupefied on Fly's entering the chalet, this was because she was sure he had died on the boat, and not because she thought that the real Steve Rowland had somehow survived the Mongoose's attempt. Sequel

[edit]

A re-imagining should not be considered a sequel, rather another work by another company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.165.17.159 (talk) 19:01, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Starting review, will post comments within the next day or two. bridies (talk) 16:03, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Given current time constraints, I'll probably post this up piecemeal as I go:

1. Lead: I partially copy edited the lead. But another a couple of points:

  • I think there's a bit too much plot in the lead, and that a full summary isn't needed. But in any case this sentence doesn't make sense in context: He remembers more and more in the course of the storyline and then realizes that "The XX" is the mole. After beating 7 members.... It's not clear what "mole" means here, and reading the plot section it's not clear there either. XX appears to be a betrayer or merely an antagonist rather than a "mole" (i.e. planted to work undercover for the organisation's enemies). So suggest something like he realises he was betrayed by XX, a fellow conspirator. With "beating 7 members," does that mean defeating them, or literally beating them up? And "7 members" I guess means members of the conspiracy but suggest clarifying that.
    •  shortened
  • Suggest trimming the in-universe names in the lead. XX as the name of the main antagonist is probably fine, but if you're going to mention the President's brother at all, recommend trimming the name. I removed the name of the fictional President partially for this reason but also because "the President Sheridan" doesn't work (either just "the President" or just "President Sheridan").
    •  removed the names except notable (I and XIII). Added a more important statement
  • Recommend briefly explaining how the game works in the lead. Just enough so that a person not familiar with the first-person shooter genre can understand what it is without clicking through to the FPS article. bridies (talk) 14:45, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main Comments

OK, regarding prose, the article needs some copy editing, which I'll take of once the other issues are clear up. Also:

  • Really not sure the WP:EMBEDed list of characters section is needed. Definitely get rid of the table of all 20 bad guys; too much fictional and WP:GAMEGUIDE detail. Basically, if a character is important to understanding the story (The Mongoose perhaps), if there's some secondary commentary about him, or he's a main boss, then a mention in the prose of the (relatively short) plot section may be warranted. At most, maybe a character sub-section in the plot section is not a bad idea.
Unless I'm much mistaken, the table shows that most of these aren't even bosses; so I would say hardly "main" antagonists. And listing the fictional jobs is also too much in-game detail. See WP:VGSCOPE. The commentary on Walter Sheridan is pretty much original research also. Basically, just mention the most important characters in the plot section, and mention that they include high ranking politicians and so forth. bridies (talk) 02:05, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
 Doing.... Regards.--Kürbis () 15:23, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • More minor citation stuff: the Metacritic stuff is lacking full citations. Also de-italicise the GameSpot refs. In general, websites are not italicised, and in any case the references to stuff like UGO and Yahoo have been left de-italicised.

2. Have not yet checked any specific statements against the sources, but sourcing looks good so far.

3. Broad coverage. Only issue is too much detail of the fictional aspects (see above).

4. Neutral.

5. Stable.

6. The FUR on the box art is fine, and the free image on the voice actor is welcome. But, I think the soundtrack cover art needs removed, as it's reminiscent of the main box art and doesn't add anything. And also, the article is missing a screen shot. A screen shot is standard with video game articles, and a good one is crucial here to illustrate the cell-shading, and I would say things like the comic book frames, speeches and captions. bridies (talk) 04:01, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will add screenshots. However, my monitor has resolution problems, so I am not sure if I can do that. Regards.--Kürbis () 17:03, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to make some screenshots on my laptop instead. Regards.--Kürbis () 08:57, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can also just take one from the web. bridies (talk) 15:02, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, added a screenshot. Regards.--Kürbis () 15:23, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken the liberty of integrating the character section and have finished copy editing. Pass. bridies (talk) 05:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The release date of the remake

[edit]

PlayMagic LTD's efforts to bring XIII to newer platforms in the form of a remake was originally planned to come out on 13 November 2019. But, it has changed since and as such was delayed to an unspecified date in 2020. All the needed sources are cited in the sequel and remakes section.
