Television Station
[edit]First of all, I like this page as a dismbig instead of a straight redirect to West Coast Main Line. But since the WCML station does not have its own article, and is just a repeater station, should that line point to the main television station article at WCMU-TV? -- Satori Son 15:06, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Nevermind – I found the existing redirect at WCMU-TV and fixed the redlink here. -- Satori Son 15:11, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

WCML → WCML (disambiguation) – WCML should be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to West Coast Main Line, which is overwhelmingly what is meant by this abbreviation. That article dominates the page views for all linked topics here as well, with about 92% of views over the past 90 days.[1] — Amakuru (talk) 15:10, 19 January 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. - Oppose – I see tons of hits for WebComposition Markup Language and other meanings. Disambiguation seems best. Dicklyon (talk) 03:50, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

WCML → WCML (disambiguation) – Ok, I know there was another discussion on this six years ago, but things have changed since then and its more than reasonable enough. this chart over here (linked below since It wont work on the RM discussion) clearly tells the story. The West Coast Main Line is the clear primary topic for WCML. The rest of the WCMLs are quite obscure and most people searching for WCML are likely looking for the railway line. JuniperChill (talk) 13:45, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Just to make it clear, I am renaming WCML to WCML (disambiguation) and to redirect WCML to West Coast Main Line. JuniperChill (talk) 13:47, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Most Google results are for West Coast Main Line but I'm in England so this is probably partly due to my location. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:37, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- I am also from UK (hence me mostly into UK railways). Now if someone from the US, Canada and Australia searched 'Great Western Railway', would it be different? For example, I searched 'Boston' and the US city came first, rather than the one in England. But anyway, the second result for me is the Working Class Movement Library which is also UK, but the rest is the railway line
- Chances are, the majority of Americans (and maybe Canadians/Australians/New Zealanders) never heard WCML being used whether for the railway or others so the majority of people searching WCML are the Brits. JuniperChill (talk) 17:12, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Per WP:DPT, can we reflect on the meaning of https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=WCML where in April data we can see just a 2:1 recorded advantage of the proposed primary topic over the next most common one (and a fair bit of possible long tail as it's just 34 out of 69 or ~49%)? This indicates that while it's possible that most people searching for "WCML" are looking for this topic, it's also quite possible that half the people are not. Very strong oppose absolutely no precedent or justification for changing the longstanding full title to an acronym. Furthermore it would make it out of line with other similar articles (East Coast Main Line, Great Western Main Line etc)G-13114 (talk) 08:46, 4 June 2024 (UTC)- Just for the note that I didn't add the West Coast Mainline to WCML move. Paine Ellsworth added that for some reason and its totally out of scope. JuniperChill (talk) 09:29, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- I removed it JuniperChill (talk) 09:40, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- I removed the notice from the West Coast Main Line article. Thryduulf (talk) 11:23, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you for mentioning that part of the nomination is to make "WCML" a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to the "West Coast Main Line" article. Please forgive the confusion. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 09:57, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- The proposal is not very clear because I don't think we have the full picture. Am I correct in believing that the intention is that
- The current WCML becomes WCML (disambiguation)
- A new WCML redirects unambiguously to West Coast Main Line
- West Coast Main Line gains a hatnote that says WCML redirects here. For other uses, see WCML (disambiguation) using the appropriate template.
- If all three together comprise the Cunning Plan, I support the proposal. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 12:20, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- That is my plan. I just didn't think some people found my RM to be unclear and I have added a note above it making the proposal clear. I never thought a note would end up on the RMCD page stating that it could make it malplaced. JuniperChill (talk) 13:47, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- For clarity, this RM is listed under "Possibly incomplete requests", which does not apply here, because you specifically want to redirect the base name to the primary topic. It's only when there is no clear disposition of the base name that the bot senses a possible "malplaced disambiguation page". P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 16:34, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

- Support - even though I started the last RM, I was actually initially a little sceptical about this. But the Wikinav and pageview statistics suggest strongly that this is the topic readers are looking for, so the move makes sense. — Amakuru (talk) 14:01, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Support — Safe to say it’s the main target for WCML so I think it would be fine to redirect. —TwinBoo (talk) 15:14, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, very UK centric view. May be the primary topic for UK readers, but Wikipedia is a global project and thus a global view should be taken. Hemutreis (talk) 22:41, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Comment. The evidence is mixed. Pageviews clearly show the railway is primary - monthly views since January 2019 show November 2020 was the lowest month for the line with 6,661 views while both WCMU-TV and WCMU-FM had their busiest month in April 2020 where they reached a combined 3714 views (the Working Class Movement Library peaked at 389 views and the Women's Caucus peaked at 15). Wikinav quoted elsewhere suggests that it's only borderline primary over all the other topics when people search for WCML. Looking at Google on my browser the WCML is clearly primary, but as someone in the UK who regularly searches for UK railway-related topics this is likely affected by personalisation. I repeated the search ("WCML" -Wikipedia) using Duck Duck Go via Tor with an exit node that geolocated to the Netherlands, this search produced no primary topic with the library, TV station and railway line producing approximately equal numbers of results and the radio station not that far behind. I would expect the Michigan-based stations to feature more prominently for people closer to that part of the world than the UK. Thryduulf (talk) 11:11, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- But the WCML in Michigan is just one of three transmitters operated by the WCMU station. So at best the 3714 overall is three times the specific but in reality, how many are looking for an individual transmitter rather than the station? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 12:12, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, both the radio and TV stations are repeater stations that broadcast content from WCMU. While I suppose some in the Alpena Michigan area would recognize the WCML call letters, the content branding is primarily that of WCMU. older ≠ wiser 15:11, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

- Support. Speaking as a former resident of Northern Michigan, WCML does not commonly refer to WCMU, it's just a satellite station, and the northeast corner of Michigan (where Alpena is) is remote. Per the page views analysis, the West Coast Main Line is the clear primary topic. Mackensen (talk) 12:13, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Support. I was initially skeptical, but looking into the page traffic patterns, I think the rail line is pretty clear primary topic. older ≠ wiser 15:14, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
