I've been planning to make this article for a long time now, here's a link to my sandbox with the full list of winners (including the ones from 2005 onwards). The award is usually referred to as "Večernjakov nogmetaš godine" and I think it should be moved to a more appropriate title to reflect that. There is also the annual Slobodna Dalmacija award for the best 1. HNL player and the Sportske novosti Yellow Shirt Award (which may have been discontinued, I don't know). I doubt that people reading this were confused as to "what this is". I rolled back your changes. Also, since the page cannot be moved back to iits previous title because you created redirects, I should ask admins to do it for me - but they won't do it for "controversial moves". So in a nutshell - what makes you believe that "Vecernjakov nogometas godine" is a better title than "Croatian Footballer of the Year"? I fail to see tthe logic. Doesn't it say in your last discussion post that you think it's title should be changed to reflect it better (quote: The award is usually referred to as "Večernjakov nogmetaš godine" and I think it should be moved to a more appropriate title to reflect that)? The award is referred to as "Večernjakov nogometaš godine" in Croatia to distinguish it from other awards given by other media outlets, such as the Sportske novosti Yellow Shirt award and Prva HNL Player of the Year. But unlike the latter two this one a) covers Croatian players from all leagues, not just the domestic one; and b) is the only one co-sponsored by the Croatian Football Federation, making it the Croatian equivalent of all other player of the year awards found in Template:National Footballer of the Year (most of which are also differently called in their native languages). Also, read WP:NAME which states:

"Article titles are expected to be a recognizable name or description of the topic. Titles are expected to use names and terms that readers are most likely to look for in order to find the article (and to which editors will most naturally link from other articles). As part of this, a good title should convey what the subject is actually called in English. Titles are expected to follow the same pattern as those of similar articles. ".

So unless you can prove that this is the name of the award as used in English-language media, you have no grounds to move it. Večernjakov nogometaš godine → Croatian Footballer of the Year – Per WP:PRINCIPALNAMINGCRITERIA. This is more recognizable, natural, precise and also consistent e.g. it is in essence the equivalent of all other articles listed in Template:National Footballer of the Year. The Croatian name of the award is certainly not the least bit recognizable for English readers. The fact that it is sponsored by Večernji list is not as relevant as the fact that it the only footballer of the year award co-sponsored by the Croatian Football Federation and that this is the only relevant award available to Croatian players who ply their trade both in domestic competitions and abroad. Yugoslav period

Could we make a separation between pre and post Croatian independence period, as in the list are included numerous non-Croatian players, and the award was attributed back then with a different meaning, focusing in the Yugoslav League, so Bajević, Džoni, Sušić, Vladimir Petrović, Simović, Tuce and Stojković, were all non-Croatian players, and doesn´t make sense that they are "Croatian footballers of the year"... :) I am not asking for renaming, the name is perfectly fine and I would have certainly supported the RfM if I had noteced it in time, but just to make some separation in the list indicating the two periods. I noteced this because I tought of adding it to the honours section of all players in some near future, and I ended up stuck by which name should it be added before 1991. How was it officially called back then? Was treated equally back then as it is now, I mean, was it officially recognised by te YFA? In any case, should it be Vecernjakov nogometas godine or Jugoslavenski igrac godine (Yugoslav FP) or something different? FkpCascais (talk) 01:15, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Probably Večernji list Player of the Year. There were many footballer awards given by several newspapers in SFRY - another one was the Sportske novosti Yellow Shirt award for the best player in the Yugoslav First League and there was also Player's Player of the Year awarded by Večernje novosti in which all club captains voted. I have no idea which one of these was sponsored by the FSJ, if any, and it is difficult to determine which one was the most prestigious. In Croatia Yellow shirt and Večernji's awards are regarded as most important, but I suppose in Serbia awards given by Belgrade-based outlets were seen as more important. You also had the Yugoslav Sportsman of the Year awards given by DSL Sport along with the Sportske novosti version. Timbouctou (talk) 01:32, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Many thanks. I wan´t do it right away, cause most of the exemples found don´t have an honours section, but exactly because of that, I am lately adding them to many players, so this type of awards are usefull too. Anyway, even for the prose it is allways nice to add it, something like: "...and his excellent season ended up crowned with the Večernji list Player of the Year award..." or something similar.
