Storyline article

[edit]

I was thinking of writing an article for the entire storyline of the anime (though people familiar with the game's story could write that in a aswell). I decided to base it off this article. Here's what Ive written

Article name Utawarerumono storyline summary.

This is articles for the storyline of the anime and game, Utawarerumono.

Anime plotline Introduction Episodes 1-8 A man (later named as Hakouro is found by Eruruu and her family, having no memory he begins to see Eruruu, Aruruu (Eruruu's sister), and Tusukuru (the grandmother), as his family. He is introduced to state of the country that he and the people of the neighboring village are in, as a greedy Emperor is over taxing the villagers. Soon Hakouro is able to recognition in the village by killing Mutipaka as white tiger with metallic fur, Mutipaka had been attacking the other villages, and Hakouro has found the weakness of the animal: water. Later Tusukuru gives the man the name Hakouro, the name of her son (thus the name of Eruruu's and Aruruu's father). ''

As you can see. Im not that good at wrting summaries. So would anyone help me do this. Or is it a bad idea?. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Psi edit (talkcontribs) 23:00, 1 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

The tribes/races of Utawarerumono

[edit]

What I know so far: Karura and her brother are the last of the Giriyagina, a tribe with a great deal of (natural?) strength and arrogance. Their strength causes them to lack empathy. Evinkuruga (what's the katakana for it?): Touka and Genjimaru (and Sakuya and Hien?). Sense of duty, ears that seem like folded bird wings, very protective of the person they swear loyalty to. Urutori and Kamyu: no idea. Aruruu, Eruruu, Tusukuru, Nuwangi, that guy with the axe (why isn't he in the article?)... are they all one tribe? Yuzuha and Oboro don't have the same ears, though they're siblings...

Am I getting all of it correct? --Raijinili 03:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would be nice to define the races/tribes and even empires found in the anime/game... And there is Kuuya's race, I don't know the name of it. --Rev-san 15:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
At a guess, the tribes breed true rather than mix (at least for Yuzuha/Oboro and Sakura and Hien.) Still, without more evidence we can't really say for sure. Guess it isn't important enough to mention. Jachra 06:11, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Romanization of names 2

[edit]

Quote from one of the fansubbers on a forum: "I guess we should've put in an explanation on the website or something. Basically, Utawarerumono has heavy Ainu influences. The people in Tusukur's village all dress in Ainu-ish garb. Their village is situated on the northeastern part of the continent, whereas the Ainu are currently situated on the northeastern part of Japan. The names used have an Ainu flair to them, including エルルゥ アルルゥ and トゥスクル. The Japanese word for the sung vocal traditions of the legends of the Ainu people are called うたわれるもの though that is not the only interpretation of the title. Thus, considering all these Ainu influences, it seems appropriate to use their romanization system to bring forth the exotic quality that comes with it. Hence, Aruruw and Eruruw are romanized according to the official Ainu romanization system. The Ainugo Jiten (Ainu dictionary) published by Sanseido was used to determine the proper way to romanize Ainu (and in this case, the Ainu-ish language used by the people in Utawarerumono). To be a bit more specific, Aruruw is essentially 3 syllables in Ainugo: A ru ruw. The 'ruw' is the r consonant sound, followed by the u vowel sound and then ending with a consonant sound of w. Oh, and fun trivia fact, Tusukur means "sorcerer"/"magician" in Ainugo."

I'm not sure what's the point of your comment, but both anime and games use the same spelling anyway.80.201.199.103 17:44, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I first read the OP it read to me like the site linked was subbing the anime, when they are not, so I made a note to clarify that in case anyone else was confused. Shiroi Hane 11:53, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Basically this is for discussing whether or not the names should be romanised in Ainu style or modified Hepburn. However, I think we should stick with Hepburn until ADV releases Utawarerumono in English and says so otherwise. No matter how it's written, the pronounciation is the same, but peronally, I find the Ainu romanisation very confusing looking. Roxybudgy 06:45, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would say using the proper Ainu romanization makes more sense. (I might also add that when you hear the characters' names in the anime using that style of romanization sounds closer to how they say it.) I am also for general use rather than strictly abiding to rules. (I might add I also dont like the style of Hepburn that Wikipedia uses for anime related article and should stick to the generally used romanization.) 68.41.170.184 05:24, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unlike most WHAT?

[edit]

"Unlike most adventure games, the story is linear and there is no voice acting in the PC version." was changed to "Unlike most turn-based strategy games, the story is linear and there is no voice acting in the PC version." What are we going by as the definition of "strategy" and "adventure"? Because I don't recall either genre having a lot of games without linearity and especially voice acting. Perhaps they mean "most hentai games"? --Raijinili 22:42, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's just that the term "adventure game" refers to completely different thing in this and other side of pacific ocean.
"ADV(Adventure) game" in Japan refers to (English usage of)Visual Novel games of which text area occupying only bottom half of screen and usually have multiple endings depends on in-story choices, whereas Japanese term of "Visual Novel" strictly refers to some of these games that text area occupies whole of screen like Fate/Stay Night or To Heart.
From these difinition, Utawarerumono is considered a "part-adventure/part-strategy" in Japanese term, and not many adventure game(read: hentai-game if you want) of 21st century is neither linear story or voiceless, which justifies the sentence "Unlike most adventure games...".
As the difference in term usage is obvious and this being English wiki, the change was okay IMO, but maybe "unlike most visual-novel" or "unlike most hentai-games" suit better?
I've never considered Utaware as an hardcore strategy game before... well, maybe it's just me. -58.0.211.214 02:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up

[edit]

I have cleaned up the Characters section. Please reconsider carefully before reverting it back to the old style. 1.) Corrected some grammer. 2.) Removed repeated information already accessable in Backstory section. 3.) Removed screenshot of Karuru as only one screenshot is permitted in an article.C Ronald 14:07, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touka's Tribe

[edit]

I am still not 100% sure as to the correct spelling of Touka's tribe in Utawarerumono. I have seen 'Evenkuruga' and 'Evinkuruga'. I believe that the latter is the correct romanization, and spelled it thus during the overhaul I did of the Touka article. Can someone confirm the correct romanization for me? Daniengrey 21:36, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Evinkuruga is the correct spelling of it. ~Zyrin

How is that the correct spelling when the Japanese is エヴェンクルガ? [(e) (vu) (little e) (n) (ku) (ru) (ga)] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.12.137.77 (talk) 03:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dori and Gura

[edit]

In an episode of the anime, Dori and Gura are shown sleeping with Oboro, and they are both clearly female (read: breasts). I'm making a modification to point this out.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.167.105.209 (talkcontribs) 02:44, 4 January 2007

Oh. You did bring it up. You still should've waited.
While it shouldn't be expected that you would know, this argument has been going on for a long time. You should not just say, "This is CLEARLY the case." See past archives for more discussions.
By the way, I do not see breasts in that scene. --Raijinili 14:48, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the second archive has the entire lengthy debate on this subject. After people stopped editing it and the discussion was over, I archived it in the hopes that this wouldn't come up again, but I suppose I was wrong. I'll add a hidden note by their names to point to the second archive for anyone wanting to see the whole discussion.--(十八|talk) 20:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Personally i consider both to be female, both due to mannerisms they show, most especially right after their stint as bandits (when the anime was 'showing off' those three), and yes, i remember seeing something in the whoe 'sleeping with oboro' scene that screamed female... whether it was breasts or what i dont remember... another indication is the style of armor they choose to wear, including how its made; namely with a raised chestplate, which is generally used by females to make the armor more comfortable, aka not crushing their breasts. i believe outside the armor they took to wearing kimono style clothing, not the twin-legged (yet similar) clothes worn by males and priests... now i might be mistaken in at least some of this, but i believe very strongly that both of the twins are female... either that or oboro is very... very... gay... (which i doubt considering how he looks at the other girls, and how he treats other guys), considering both of the twins did like him (yes im referring to non-familial love), and he liked them in return in much the same way... Edited by: Kyanos
Not that any of that matters since they are explicitly told to be male in the game, thus they are male in the anime. If you try to change it in this article, or the character article, it'll just get reverted.-- 22:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Besides, Oboro needn't be gay; he doesn't even remember what happened, as I recall. THEY just need to be. And yes, without them saying otherwise in the anime, then they're boys and any attempts to change it to say 'female' should be reverted. Jachra 06:15, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Has anyone looked at who does their voices? Chicks for both series. Also, at the end of the 1st omake, it shows one half nude, and the position they're in points to them being female. Also, as stated, the sleeping with Oboro scene. I think that when they made the anime, they didn't want to have them be guys so they made them chicks in order to have the story line progress a certain way. ~Zyrin

Goku isn't a girl, and omake isn't serious. --Raijinili 09:26, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regardless of the fact that they are male in the game, you cannot rule out the possibility that the anime version was altered to suit a broader audience hence making the twins female. You also cannot rule out that they were indeed male in the Japanese version of the anime and ADV chose to change this in the English adaption and make them female for the American sensibility as this is not a hentai anime, therefore Oboro sleeping with two young boys wouldn’t fly with general audiences. The bottom line is this, whether or not Dori and Gura or male or female shouldn’t be added to the article at all as it isn’t critical information to the game or anime and cannot be definitively resolved concerning the anime. It’s trivia if anything which has no place in a wiki article. And now that I think about it, the entire characters section should be removed as it’s poorly written and an autonomous article for these characters already exists. Any input on this? Littlesin 22:03, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did ADV alter it? I'm not trying to discredit you or anything, but I'm just a bit curious about this. The Japanese version didn't deal much with the subject, hence the mass confusion, but if ADV did indeed decide to change some things, then perhaps a revision of the article is at hand. As for the character section, it has been waiting there for a while, not doing much. I don't think that its removal is blatantly required, but it would probably be a good idea to simply re-write it to talk about and link to three or four main characters and then leave the rest to be covered on the character list. And so there goes my two cents... KojieroSaske 01:24, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can alter the Characters section in this article by, say, adding in the entries from List of Utawarerumono characters for Hakuoro, Eruru, and Aruru since they're the three most major characters, if you like. And if ADV really did change them to be girls, then it might be noted that ADV did this for localization purposes, but it would just be a side note really; Dori and Gura still remain to be males regardless.-- 02:02, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is no argument that the twins are male in the game. As to ADV possibly changing their sex to suit their audience, we don't know, but this is an issue for the List of Utawarerumono characters article. It should be a non issue for this article which means that future edits containing references to Dori and Gura's sex should be removed as this would be classified as trivia. As far as the characters section goes, I still feel like it should be removed, but I think both solutions offered would improve it greatly. However, I won't be the one to edit it just to see it reverted back to the way it was. The change should be a general consensus. Littlesin 03:35, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its quite possible it wasn't ADV that changed the sex, but the people who produced the anime decided that them being female would appeal to a greater audience, Ive seen it be both cases, like in the anime Battle Athletes the OAV series, one of the characters was found to be male later in the story, but in the TV series they were female all the way through as it was like a different storyline altogether and decided that her staying female would better suit the story. In either case, unless you can find out for a fact that they are male or female, it is better to leave this section unconfirmed and a note depicting that it is unknown for the anime series, what sex they are IMO 203.144.17.192 (talk) 02:13, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK people, in official artwork at the end of one of the extras, Dori and Gura are shown bathing in the hot springs with all of the other male characters, while the girls are all shown in a separate artwork. Also in this piece we also get a look at Benawis short tail and his ears. They are young, possibly prepubescent, boys. F any changes were made from game, they wold want to make this known in the anime. Similar to how the Mai-Hime manga-anime worked. SO please stop stating that the are female. I don't undestand why it is so wrong for them to be male though, is it because they are gay? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 01:01, 30 May 2008 (UTC) Also, it is common for females to do voices for males in anime as well as American cartoons, so tha targuement that a female VA= a female character is moot as well —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 01:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seperate Character Articles?

[edit]

Why do Touka and Orikakan have their own articles? The former reads like a fan wrote it, especially the "Personality" part (sounds like an odd use of 'Tsundere' either way), while the latter itself states that Orikakan is a minor character. On further examination, the creator of both articles was also blocked from Wikipedia. Mekryd 16:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the information in the character pages could be merged into this one, since both of the characters have very short paragraphs about them.

This discussion can be taken up at the new character article List of Utawarerumono characters.---- () 22:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

アルルゥとあそぼ!! Means Let's Play With Aruruu and not Aruruu and Asobo. (Yes I know Asobo should have long vowel, but I also know that Japanese like to play with words like this to be cute) So I just changed that.ParallelPain 08:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OVA or a hoax?

[edit]

Do we have any reliable sources that indicate OVA is in production? Animenewsnetwork.com doesn't seem like a very reliable source; it is updated by fans - hence it should be treated as a wiki for purposes of referencing (and wikis are not very reliable, see WP:RS). The page further contains no details of the series whatsoever, not to mention any references.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Except that ANN is considered a reliable source, and if the people that run ANN chose to create that page, then I'm sure they had a good enough reason to do it. Unlike Wikipedia, not everyone can add in pages to ANN (though anyone who registers can edit the entries), so if a page exists on ANN, I think we can assume it's going to happen.-- 00:12, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if that would fly at WP:RSN. Not that I care that much, but it would be nice to see some more proof than unreferenced fan-run database page featuring just a title added by an anonymous fan. I would like to believe that OVA is in works, but the current claim is dubious.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 01:13, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, ANN is considered very reliable. They aren't just a band of fans doing whatever they want. If a page exists on ANN, you can bet that it's going to happen, and seeing as how an IP just provided you proof below, we can finally drop this.-- 06:46, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Isometric fighting game links?

[edit]

Would it be prudent to remove the links from the external links section pertaining to this, since they are now provided in that new subsection? Or is it better to err on the side of redundancy? I'm kinda torn on this, and I don't know what the precedent is. Vianello (talk) 03:18, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Typically I'd say that if the link is important enough, it should stay in EL even if used as a reference. Either way is fine I guess since it's only a side-game anyway.

"..the world has become an uninhabitable wasteland"?

[edit]

According to the game, it was the human population, not the surface world that changed. The article mentions "post-apocalyptic air" but this seems to be in error. It is stated directly in the game that it was the human's pursuit of "renewing" themselves that eventually resulted in their inability to exist outside of a sterile greenhouse environment; humans were now unable to fend off simple bacteria. Also other life forms (e.g. trees) were having no trouble living on the surface. Granted, I'm relying on Mirror Moon's English patch for this info, but I doubt that there is a discrepancy between the languages here. Anyone have a good reason to think the article is correct the way it is before I go ahead and change it? AllUltima (talk) 20:55, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
