In the picture box to the right there is a link to a website: '.........weebly.com/'. However, this does not seem to be a legitimate personal website. The site is very sparse, and includes a link ("view biography with husband") which was redirecting my browser to something that was clearly spam. MC75 (talk) 20:58, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are the Vances vegetarian?

[edit]

At the RNC 2024 in July 2024, Usha Vance told the world that her husband, JD Vance, agreeed to her vegetarian diet and enjoys preparing what she described as 'Indian food' in their home kitchen. That opens the question, "Are the Vances vegetarian?" Why was this not reported, and is this merely a card to play during the campaign (which is kept hidden until playing it is needed or desirable)?? What may have been written about this, and is that question ("Are the Vances vegetarian?") seriously pursued, factchecked, validated for epistemological integrity, etc.? I would speculate that, if it's important enough to discuss during a marriage proposal, then it is really important to Usha Vance and her family. MaynardClark (talk) 16:06, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

JD Vance is not mentioned as vegetarian by any sources.
Usha Vance & her mother are vegetarian per the sources.
At RNC 2024:
She also said her husband was a "meat and potatoes kind of guy" - but one who had adapted to her vegetarian diet and even learned how to cook Indian food for her mother.
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c897483zpyeo
Adapted here seems to mean adjusted, but not converted to Veggie.

Chilukuri and Vance married in 2014 in Kentucky, in an interfaith marriage ceremony,[31][18] which included Bible reading by her husband's friend Jamil Jivani,[32] while the couple was also blessed by a Hindu pundit.[3]

change would be "pundit" to "pandit". Amended text would be:

Chilukuri and Vance married in 2014 in Kentucky, in an interfaith marriage ceremony,[31][18] which included Bible reading by her husband's friend Jamil Jivani,[32] while the couple was also blessed by a Hindu pandit.[3] 2601:205:4880:2BA0:745A:86B2:BF02:E2A2 (talk) 21:31, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. It seems that "pundit" is an accepted alternate spelling, but I'm not sure why we'd choose it, considering Pandit is the article title and "pundit", in the sense of a political commentator, has a stronger primary meaning in English. Moncrief (talk) 18:46, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree: pandit with the link avoids the linguistic confusion with pundit for the WP:READER. BBQboffingrill me 05:24, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While at Yale Law School, Chilukuri met her future husband, J. D. Vance, a relationship encouraged by their professor Amy Chua.[29]

Changing the reference from a Daily Beast article that links to the original source, that being an interview with both Chua and Vance by The Atlantic. [1]

Not done: Secondary sources are preferred on Wikipedia, and this case is a good example of why - the primary source does not explicitly say he is referring to Usha, so making this claim would require interpretation by Wikipedia editors. By using a secondary source we're relying on a professional journalist to make that interpretation, likely based on multiple sources (for example the Daily Beast article also mentions how they met, which is not covered in the Atlantic interview). Second Lady-designate?

[edit]

The infobox description of "elect" for second lady is not accurate, as this position is not by virtue of election, but by virtue of designation, via marriage to the vice-president elect. Should we revert edit back to 'designate'? 202.53.38.49 (talk) 14:40, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
