Flying monkey?
[edit]Is that a statue of a flying monkey or some sort of demon on the roof of the station? All the photos of the front facade of the station on Wikimedia Commons seem to show it. Am I seeing it correctly? If so, is it permanent? Was it merely a Hallowe'en decoration? If it was permanent, I thought that would be an interesting fact for the article. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 14:31, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
- Apparently it is a flying monkey -- the flying monkeys of Burlington are even mentioned over at Winged monkeys. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 14:37, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

I'll be reviewing this for you. Such an old nomination! Will try to complete the review today, otherwise by the end of the long weekend. Grk1011 (talk) 15:27, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
General comments
[edit]- A map showing where these locations were would be helpful (obviously optional)
- I'll see what I can do, but it might not be in time for the GA nom.
Infobox and lead
[edit]- Source for "1 Main Street"
- I honestly don't think addresses of extant buildings need cited, but I can if absolutely necessary.
- Source for "NECR Burlington Subdivision" (and mention in article body?)
- Done (Citation in the prose)
- Source for Connections field (and mention in article body?)
- Done (Citation in the prose)
- I don't see how "parking" and "disabled access" are relevant fields for a "construction" section, but that is how the Infobox works, so just expressing my confusion.
- Is "Burlington" part of the station name, or is it just "Union Station"? (question about it being bolded)
- I don't think you can really make the case for one over the other. I used "Burlington Union Station" in the first sentence for clarity, and "Union Station" thereafter for conciseness.
- In the first paragraph, consider moving the last paragraph up so that you finish talking about the train service before going into the description of the structure.
- I don't follow. The first paragraph describes the station and current service; the next three are the history.
- Oops, I meant "last sentence". Grk1011 (talk) 15:44, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- I don't follow. The first paragraph describes the station and current service; the next three are the history.
- A new platform for Amtrak service was built in 2020 to 2022, and Ethan Allen Express service began on July 29, 2022 <- Reword for clarity. From, to?
- Done
Station design
[edit]- wikilink Lake Champlain
- Done
- Second paragraph: can you introduce that you're about to talk about what the building used to be like? The first paragraph is present tense, so this was sort of confusing.
- Done
- The last paragraph feels like it should be part of the first paragraph as it describes the design and features of the building.
- I think it's best in its current location. It's a decoration rather than an integral part of the building, and moving it up would make the first paragraph too long and interrupt the flow.
History
[edit]Early stations
[edit]- Add something to "Bellows Falls" for clarity. Is it the station or the location?
- I'm not sure what you're looking for here - there's already a wikilink.
- The R&B tracks were extended north along the waterfront in 1850 to connect with the R&B. <- This sentence confused me. The tracks were extended to connect with itself?
- Done
Construction and service
[edit]- What are Pullman passengers?
- I'm not sure what clarification is needed other than the existing wikilink.
- Ref order for last sentence [98][11]
- Done
Reuse and modern service
[edit]- The CV and Rutland continued to operate freight service to Burlington. <- This is the first mention of them offering freight service.
- I'm not sure where would be relevant to mention it before that.
- that year, the Montrealer was truncated as the Montrealer. <- Clarify
- Done
- Image caption The Champlain Flyer platform in 2006 <- Clarify that this doesn't exist anymore, right? Was this reconstructed as "new Amtrak platform"?
- Done
GA checklist
[edit]- Well written: yes, with some comments/clarifications above
- Factually accurate and verifiable: yes
- References: The Burlington Free Press is only wikilinked in ref 115. I prefer all to be linked, but at a minimum, link one of the early ones instead.
- Broad in coverage: yes
- Neutral: yes
- Stable: yes
- Images: properly licensed and relevant
Discussion
[edit]On hold while the above comments are addressed or explained. A great, detailed read! Grk1011 (talk) 16:40, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Grk1011: Thanks for the review! I've made most of the suggested changes, including wikilinking the first use of the Burlington Free Press. A few suggestions I'm confused about or disagree with; I've replied to those above. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 10:39, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Pi.1415926535: Thanks for making those changes! The remaining comments are minor enough that I don't mind passing this as is. One of my comments that you were confused about had a typo, it should have been "In the first paragraph, consider moving the last sentence up so that you finish talking about the train service before going into the description of the structure." If that makes sense to you, go ahead and adjust it, otherwise, great job with this article! Grk1011 (talk) 15:44, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Outdated/incorrect ridership data
[edit]The ridership data for Amtrak fiscal year 2023 appears to be incorrect. It should be 21,150 passengers according to the Vermont state fact sheet: https://www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/corporate/statefactsheets/VERMONT23.pdf Silvercowcreamer (talk) 22:52, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Silvercowcreamer: Looks like Template:Amtrak ridership is being updated with the FY2023 data, but Vermont hasn't been finished yet. Once that's done in a few days, all the numbers will be correct. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:02, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
