[edit]Pinging Elmidae, as you have shown interest in this article. Most of this article is about the wrong taxon. Damn shame, considering it's rated B. What looks like what happened is that someone wrote a very good article about animal called a topi, Damaliscus lunatus, but then someone else read Ungulate Taxonomy, came along, and moved it to Damaliscus lunatus jimela. Almost none of the sources, however, are specifically about this taxon. This article is mostly cited from a book by Estes, but the relevant chapter in the book is titled: "Topi or Tsessebe (Damaliscus lunatus)". The exact same text/book was already citing the Damaliscus lunatus lunatus article. I have also already brought this up at Discussion WikiProject Mammals (see above). I am in the process of moving all the text which cannot be ascribed to this taxon to the Damaliscus lunatus article. When I press 'publish changes' button, very little of this article will remain, and I will undoubtedly be reverted, so having an experienced editor look at this would be nice. The rating will have to change. I will wait a bit to give people chance to read this. Lastly, Elmidae, hello there, thanks for your interest, I see you edited out my editorialising. Fair enough, that's cool, but I have many good references for the statements in front of those two 'citation needed' tags I left... Between 2003 to 2011 there were numerous changes to the nomenclature, all generally rejected as of 2021 (see common tsessebe -I'm just going to recycle the taxonomy part). I got distracted when I noticed all the problems with article above, I'll add the text again with these references. The unstable taxonomy also has implications for the given distribution, so it must be mentioned. Cool? Cheers! 86.83.56.115 (talk) 16:51, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- @86.83.56.115: sounds sensible; probably can't go much wrong here by sticking to "follow the sources". You may want to wait a couple days for input at the Wikiproject, to minimalize the chance of being reverted here? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 17:21, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks for the response. I'll wait a bit before publishing, while I sort out the sourcing. I of course welcome all comments from anyone else. 86.83.56.115 (talk) 18:34, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
