Merger proposal
[edit]I propose to merge Revelry of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai into Tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai#Annual Lag BaOmer Celebration. I think that the content in this article can easily be explained in the context of Tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and between that article and the Lag BaOmer article, this seems excessive IMHO as mentioned here. Especially as the name "Revelry of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai" is so foreign. | MK17b | (talk) 21:39, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Agree. The existence of a separate article discussing nearly the very same thing seems to go against Wikipedia's policy of WP:CFORK.Davidbena (talk) 22:09, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Agree per nom. --Chefallen (talk) 04:03, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- Agree Neither Tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai nor Lag BaOmer are too large yet to necessitate a separate article (though the "revelry" article was created a day earlier).—Bagumba (talk) 05:23, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- Agree per above. Alternatively, could be merged to Lag BaOmer. Brandmeistertalk 08:40, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- Disagree The content of this new article is good, but we should probably have articles on both topics like Hebrew Wikipedia does. For the "Revelry" article, I would suggest something like Hillula of Shimon bar Yochai, to match Hiloula of Rabbi Haim Pinto.--Pharos (talk) 12:00, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
... should probably have articles on both topics ...
: Why? —Bagumba (talk) 08:05, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose - I agree with Pharos. --Midrashah (talk) 14:37, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Pharos arguments. Sokuya (talk) 10:13, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose - a lot of material should be moved out of Lag BaOmer (e.g. "Chai rotel" liquid refreshment gift) and Tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and placed at the Hillula page. Chesdovi (talk) 01:52, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- It's not clear why all that content should be moved out of the existing pages to make room for this additional page. This article covers the pilgrimage to the RASHBI's tomb, which seems like exactly the type of content Tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai should cover. | MK17b | (talk) 16:17, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- The page about the tomb should be about the tomb: its ownership, layout, architecture, history and legends, mentioning briefly it hosts an annual pilgrimage. The Hillula, being the second largest pilgrim gathering in the country, should explore what happens at the pilgrimage (the festivities, customs, facts and figures) and notable events which have previously occurred during it...? Chesdovi (talk) 23:22, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- If and when the tomb article gets too large, I can see the value of having separate pages. At the moment, it just seems like there was a rush to create a multitude of pages post the Meron incident and the Revelry/Hilula page in particular seems half baked. | MK17b | (talk) 03:49, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

- Agree per nom. Ibn Daud (talk) 16:16, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose for the same reasoning as Pharos Painting17 (talk) 15:23, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- Agree with nom and Davidbena. The headings "Annual pilgrimage" and "Incidents" are almost a word-for-word duplication of the Hillula article, so no content need be lost by carrying out this merge. Havradim (talk) 11:38, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
