David Mercer

My knowledge comes from the three years (from 1991 to 1994) I spent as personal advisor to Meles Zenawi. At that time I was also acted as the go-between for him (and his government) with the western ambassadors; especially in terms of negotiatng the $1 billion World Bank loan and dealing with the OLF forces in the restarted war.

This is all described in my book (D.Mercer, 'A Dance Through the Fires of Time' (Booksurge, 2006) due out soon. The content of this relating to Ethiopia as a whole can be found at http://futureobservatory.dyndns.org/9513.htm. This large website [[1]], with several thousand entries, is the source of the number of contributions I will be making to Wikipedia. None of these are promotional, and all are backed either by direct experience or by being the content of the several dozen boooks I have written - with sales of around 100,000 copies - including an encyclopedic dictionary: D. Mercer, 'Marketing - The Encyclopaedic Dictionary'(Blackwell, 1999).

The question isn't obout your credentials. I trust you are who you say you are, but if you are a prominent person (i.e David Mercer), then Wikipedia requires some sort of proof (not anything particularly difficult). This has been the case with all celebrities, well-known and prominent people who edit on Wikipedia. The wording will have to be changed otherwise. Either way your additions have to be heavily edited to make it encyclopedic style, as it is style a bit too personal in its wording right now. I'm only hiding it for right now until the style becomes more encyclopedic, but I guess we could leave the info in its unencyclopedic style while we edit it; it's just that I'd rather the article not look half done or of varying quality.

You're misunderstanding me. It's not the webpage I'm talking about. I'm saying that wikipedia policy requires that you, Futureobservatory, show that you are David Mercer. I guess putting something about Wikipedia on the webpage would be easiest. Maybe something involving email, but since only the person who emails you can receive the confirmation, we would ultimately have to trust that user as well.

I am still not certain what you would suggest I do. I have now put my (extensive) CV on my user page. If you mean that I should refer to Wikipedia on my own website I plan to do that at the top levels when I have had more experience of Wikipedia, but it would be near impossible to put this on each of the 4,400 separate files: which, for example, take 12 hours to load to the server!

Oh, not at all on every page! I just mean one place anywhere on your website so that we know that it was you. It doesn't even have to be that. You could just tell us that you will write "Password" at the bottom of one page for instance, and if it later says password where it didn't, then we would know that it was you. That's all I'm saying. I'm sure there's some sort of easier convention for this, but I don't know it...

Tigrayan People's Liberation Front

Given that the article on Oromia Region mentions the Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization (and includes the flag of the Oromo Liberation Front), should this page include a link to the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front? Assemblany 01:38, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Bordering areas

Mekonnen5 (talk · contribs) and, earlier, 216.73.192.234 (talk) have been changing the names of the areas that border the Tigray Region, as well as the cities therein (e.g. [3], [4]). This (apparently) reflects the former Tigray Province (as depicted in File:Un-ethiopia.png), not the Tigray Region (as shown in File:Ethiopia_regions_english.png), the latter of which is the subject of this article. The current regional states replaced the old provinces during the 1990s. I have since found a better map; "better" in the sense that it clearly shows Sudan to the west of Tigray Region, as well as the city of Humera within the region's border. It is a 2009 CIA map, and may be seen at the UT Map Collection or CIA Website. (CIA website says 2010 for some reason; lower right corner of the map itself shows 2009.) I have cited the map in the article itself, in hopes of settling this matter. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:41, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Article status

At the top of the talk page, this article claims to be of both GA-class status and B-class status. This article hasn't gone under any review and isn't listed on the list of GA-class geography and places articles. Can someone tell me what's going on here? jackchango talk 19:59, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Turtlewong changed the status to GA.[5] A bot added the vital article tag using the articles given status.[6] Feminist changed the status back to C.[7] Turtlewong changed it back to GA.[8] I changed it back to B.[9] And here we are. This has not gone through a GA review or else Talk:Tigray Region/GA1 would not be red. You can't have an article marked as Good until it has been reviewed. Turtlewong was wrong to unilaterally change the status to Good and the bot just copied that status. This is not considered a WP:GA by our processes. AIRcorn (talk) 21:15, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Tigurats / Tigretes spinoff article

There was a spinoff article recently created concerning the Tigurats people but the title is undecided. Also if this is a content fork or original research and needs to be merged or combined to here, please voice your opinions there as well at Talk:Tigurats.
