Title of page

All italian parties are named with the short name, the most common name of this party is "La Rete". For a reason of consistency I propose to move this page to The Network (party) --Maremmano (talk) 20:34, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the problem about the lenght of the name. Instead the name shouldn't be translated into English "The Net". It doesn't make sense. --Mlakon (talk) 09:27, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that possibly a better translation should be 'Movement for Democracy – The Network'. Also, I agree that the long form name of the party should be kept as the article title.--Autospark (talk) 16:05, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is the consistency with the other names of italian parties. Pratically, in some cases, the names are almost invented, for example Populars – Daisy or Lega Alleanza Lombarda (and this last case you agreed to move the page). Autospark, I would like to know one thing: why can some parties be titled with short and unknown names, while other parties are titled with long and less common names? I would generally favorable to use the official names, but for all parties, the consistency is very important! Can you answer my question? --Maremmano (talk) 21:36, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The party was virtually never referred to as "Movement for Democracy", thus I agree with Maremmano on this, but I also think that it is much more important and urgent to replace "Net" with "Network". "The Network" would be a nice title for me. --Checco (talk) 14:27, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. The cited convention works well when disambiguating two parties, e.g. Democratic Progressive Party (Singapore) and Democratic Progressive Party (Austria). But look at the other items listed at the Network disambiguation page. The purpose of a disambiguator is to use the clearest and most succinct term to differentiate this (The) Network from all of the other entries. I moved the article to The Network (Italy) consistently with other Italian parties/coalitions which do not include "party" in their names—see National Alliance (Italy), Democratic Alliance (Italy), The Olive Tree (Italy), The Democrats (Italy), Great South (Italy), etc. --Checco (talk) 11:12, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To move this page a Requested move would be needed, since a request was previously rejected. The user AjaxSmack has perfectly explained why the proposal is wrong: the comparison with other political parties has nothing to do in this case, because the disambiguation is necessary to distinguish this type of subject from other different subjects. Therefore, for example, a disambiguation between two pages such as The Network (Italy) and The Network (professional wrestling) would be absolutely unintelligible. Instead a name such as "The Network (Italian party)" would be correct, to distinguish this page from Network (Slovak party).

The purpose of disambiguators is not to be universally consistent; As User:Maremmano notes, the only purpose of these parentheticals is to disambiguate from other topics of the same name. If it is possible to do that and be consistent, that is preferred. However as WP:PARENDIS notes, proper disambiguation "may lead to some acceptable inconsistency...". If users feel a need to distinguish this page from Network (Slovak party), then as User:Maremmano also notes, The Network (Italian party) would be the way to go. While I stick to "The Network (Italy)" solution (consistent with other Italian parties), I would accept "The Network (Italian party)".
