Unicode

Why is the currency symbol "Thai Baht" not in the "Currency symbols" block of Unicode encoded? --84.61.3.61 18:23, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Naming

Is this the correct title? Surely it isn't called the "Thai baht" and should thus be either at baht or baht (currency). violet/riga (t) 11:00, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

It is the consensus of Wikipedia:WikiProject Numismatics to use <Adjectival country name> <denomination> --Chochopk 12:07, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Even when there is only one currency with that name? Suppose its consistent. violet/riga (t) 21:51, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it is for consistency. --Chochopk 21:57, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Indeed. —Nightstallion (?) 14:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

No mention of the de-linking of the Baht from the U.S. dollar triggering a huge financial crises in East Asia in 1997? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daveswahl (talkcontribs) 15:18, 25 January 2007

Fair use rationale for Image:175-227.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:175-227.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 00:26, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:175-227.jpg

I found Image:175-227.jpg and noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Someone will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If it was obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If there are other files on this page, consider checking that they have specified their source and are tagged properly, too. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:43, 28 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Arabic numerals on banknotes

Older coins which are still in circulation only had the Thai numerals, but the new designs also have Arabic numerals.

Mention when the banknotes started carrying Arabic numerals too. Jidanni (talk) 22:37, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Steel?

I have a question about the statement that certain coins are made of X-plated/clad steel. The Thai word used by the treasury is เหล็ก /lek/, which means "iron". The word for steel is เหล็กกล้า /lek klaa/. Steel is, generally speaking, an iron/carbon alloy. Can someone provide evidence that it is actually steel? If not, I'll change the wording to "iron".

Also, I notice that different articles use the words X-plated and X-clad. There is a technical difference in the two processes. Can anyone say for certain which word is correct in this context? Thanks. --rikker (talk) 13:11, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

According to http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/metal.html#Steel, most modern iron coins are made of steel. So I don't think this case is an exception.
According to http://ecatalog.treasury.go.th/whatsnew/detail.php?id=176, they use the word "ชุบ" which is "plated," i.e., the outer layer is very thin. It would be much more complicated and expensive to make clad coins which have substantial outer layers. So my guess is that "plated" would be more appropriate. On this page http://ecatalog.treasury.go.th/coininfo/index.php?CoinType=1&gid=3, they use the words ชุบ /chup/ and เคลือบ /khlueap/, depending on the coin. They use the word เคลือบ /khlueap/ for the 5-baht coin, for example. It uses ชุบ /chup/ for the new 25- and 50-satang coins, the 1-baht and the 2-baht coins. In the list of discontinued coins found at http://ecatalog.treasury.go.th/coininfo/index.php?CoinType=1&gid=4, I notice ชุบ /chup/ is not used, but เคลือบ /khlueap/ is used for several of them. This leads me to believe there has been a technical change in the process. So is it the case that เคลือบ /khlueap/ = clad, and ชุบ /chup/ = plate? --rikker (talk) 12:43, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, those เคลือบ coins are clad coins like current American quarters, and Thai ชุบ coins are akin to post-1982 American penny coins which are copper-plated zinc. Warut (talk) 16:48, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Numbers

WP:MOS states that numbers from one to nine should be spelled out. "As a general rule, in the body of an article, single-digit whole numbers from zero to nine are spelled out in words" This will be a considerable task. Help if you have time. รัก-ไทย (talk) 17:22, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Also consider that Measurements, stock prices, and other quasi-continuous quantities are normally stated in figures, even when the value is a small positive integer: 9 mm, The option price fell to 5 within three hours after the announcement. And that Comparable quantities should be all spelled out or all figures: we may write either 5 cats and 32 dogs or five cats and thirty-two dogs, not five cats and 32 dogs. Most of the current formatting seems okay to me. --Paul_012 (talk) 19:23, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
The comparable quantities example is very clear. But a currency article is not simple data figure listing. Similar articles also need to be edited, especially for consistency. The US dollar article includes, "The U.S. dollar bill uses the decimal system, consisting of 100 equal cents (symbol ¢). In another division, there are 1,000 mills or ten dimes to a dollar, or 4 quarters to a dollar." It would be good if there could be a further discussion, and then revise WP:MOS to reflect the consensus. รัก-ไทย (talk) 04:32, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Introduction

What's with the strange intro that starts talking about sitting on the king's face? I laughed out loud when I first came to this article because of that. This might belong further into the article, and almost appears as covert vandalism.  TWeil  12:25, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Polymer/Paper Banknotes

The table might need a column indicating what each note is made from. The 50 Baht Blue is Polymer plastic, most of the others are paper, I believe. 122.148.138.107 (talk) 00:21, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
