Name of this article

I have placed this article at the Technology Center name. According to the official College Style Guide from 2005, the only two buildings where the "The" is an official part of the name are The Commons and The Burnett Center. However, this style guide is clearly outdated, since it refers to Vilar Technology Center, which clearly isn't the building's proper name. So, until there is an updated style guide that says otherwise, this should probably stay at Technology Center rather than The Technology Center. --GrapedApe (talk) 04:38, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Move article

I'm assuming that Technology Center has more than one use. This article should be moved to Technology Center (Washington & Jefferson College) -- Esemono (talk) 11:04, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

• Support renaming. As I wrote at DYK, there must be thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of places called Technology Center or Centre across the globe. (In fact, Technology Centre produces 20,656 hits on the en-wiki search engine.) Having this page in place stops the search engine finding anything except this page whenever someone tries to search for mentions of technology center, which is embarrassingly US-centric.   • Disambiguation is for resolving conflicts in article titles, of which there are none. Adding a DAB term makes no sense, since there are no other pages with this title. Preferring that the "Go button" produce search results, rather than this properly-titled, page isn't a reason. Do you think that people who are attempting to search for 'Technology Center" are unable to click the "Search" button, rather than the "Go" button?   • Not totally accurate, to quote the guideline, resolving conflicts in Wikipedia article titles that occur when a single term can be associated with more than one topic, making that term likely to be the natural title for more than one article. In other words, disambiguations are paths leading to different articles which could, in principle, have the same title. So it covers similar and not just identical. • WP:UNDUE is about the content of articles, not the title of articles, so citing it in this discussion makes no sense. Sure, the name of the building is stupid, but that's its name, so that should be the title of the article. There doesn't even seem to be a disambiguation page in existence so presumably these others are not significant enough to merit their own individual articles. • Support, the disambiguation page lists only a few of the Technology Center article on Wikipedia. To argue that this one is the primary use is an error in my opinion. Move as nominated, update the template that uses this phrase and then move the dab page to the main title.     • But you might be true if the building was the primary use. The general term is and you seem to not be accepting that fact. People who what to know what a technology center is should not wind up being sent to a building. Redirects should not cause a reader to be surprised or confused.       • Except that there is no such thing as a "technology center." There are merely buildings that have the words "Technology Center" in their names. Of those, this is a building that was formerly called the Vilar Technology Center, but the word Vilar was stricken. The description at the DAB page of "is a facility used for technology research" is almost a tautology. I'd like to see a source for that. A "technology center" surely can't be similar to a science center, which is a type of museum, nor can it be a Research park, which has specific academic connotations. Might I also point out that prior to writing this page, there was no entry for technology center, indicating that there is no such thing as a "technology center," merely buildings with similar names. No one is going to be shocked by arriving at this page, because no one, other than those looking for this page, is going to be searching for "technology center."--GrapedApe (talk) 17:39, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Compromise solution?

What about placing the disambiguation page at Technology center (the lowercase usage, but Wikimedia software forces capitalization of all first letters of titles), with this article located at Technology Center (proper noun usage), with a hatnote saying something like "This is about an academic building, for other uses see Technology center." This would mitigate the chances of someone searching for "technology center" arriving at this page. This would appear to satisfy everyone's concerns.--GrapedApe (talk) 23:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

• "Institutional funding came from the Eden Hall Foundation.[19] The Hillman Foundation provided $150,000 for the building." These two could be combined, and a bit of info on what the Revolutionary campaign and Hall foundations are would be nice, since there's no link for those. I don't have any information on the Eden Hall Foundation, except that it's a charitable foundation.-_GrapedApe (talk) 21:21, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Sentences combined. I don't have any information on the "Revolutionary" campaign, other than it was a campaign to raise money for the school.
• "The first classes were held in fall 2003" seems a bit iffy putting it right at the end. I'd probably move it to the leadership section and slightly rewrite it.
  • I left it in the construction section, but I re-worded it to note that it was completed in fall 2003, which I guess is the main point of that source.--GrapedApe (talk) 20:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
