A typical round of copy changes. One slightly larger task is finishing the narrative for Ward through the end of the 2024 season, but you figured that might happen. This should be easy. Ping when done. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:50, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.

Copy changes

College career

[edit]
  • Ward enrolled at California State University, Fresno to play college baseball This unbalanced comma situation, like a GEOCOMMA or a DATECOMMA, requires a comma after Fresno.
  • ranking second on the team in each category behind the elder Luplow The way this was phrased made me think there was a second Luplow on the team.
  • Following the season, he was given a tryout for the United States collegiate national baseball team on May 28 and he made the 24-man roster on June 30. WP:CINS: comma needed after "May 28", replace "and" with a semicolon, or (recommended) remove "he" after "and".

Professional career

[edit]
  • Ward made his professional debut with the Rookie Advanced-level Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League, going 0-for-4 against the Ogden Raptors in his first game on August 18, 2015. He recorded his first professional hit on August 23, a single off Grand Junction Rockies pitcher Chad Zurat. Ward was selected as a Pioneer League All-Star, scoring a run during the exhibition on August 4 This makes no chronological sense. Why is the exhibition before his debut?
  • He returned to Mobile to start the year, where he made his professional debut at third base on April 5. Dangling modifier. Try He started the year by returning to Mobile, where he made his professional debut at third base on April 5.
  • His .281 batting average and .360 OBP was the highest among qualified Angels batters and his 3.7 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) was third-most on the team. CINS add comma after "batters"
  • Complete narrative for the 2024 season. (I imagine this is mostly because of the delay in review and a lack of updates since.)

Player profile

[edit]
  • The length of the swing system quote—merited here because of the complexity of how to phrase it, in my opinion—demands in-text attribution for its source.

Sourcing and spot checks

[edit]
  • 7: The Baseball Cube batting statistics for the 2013 Bucs. Data checks out for Ward. checkY
  • 20: Box score for the AFL All-Star Game, with Ward participating. checkY
  • 22: MiLB.com staff article naming Ward an organization All-Star. checkY
  • 38: Details on the August 13, 2018, walkoff. (Note: Angels PR is pretty much ABOUTSELF for a banal fact confirmable by more statistics digging.) Suggestion: Add a citation to the box score as the tweet alone doesn't cover the opponent or final score. checkY
  • 47: Taylor Ward played the role of hero with a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning off closer Clay Holmes to secure an unlikely comeback in front of a crowd with almost enough Yankees fans to create a road atmosphere. checkY

[edit]

Two own-work photos from his time with the Angels, both appropriately licensed, and a third CC-licensed image from Flickr. Encouragement: Add alt text for users with screen readers, though it might be as simple as "Taylor Ward holding the bat in an Angels uniform" or something.
