Tamil Nadu Article...beginnings
The accurate name for the IT Park mentioned in "Software" section should be International Tech Park, Chennai or ITPC for short.

I noticed that sections 11 - 16 are replicated and are actually sections 5 - 10. I guess its been there for quite some time. Do we remove it or is it done purposefully. I was also thinking a section on South Indian cusine could be added. Yogi (talk) 9 July 2005 07:06 (UTC)

Reference to Marina being the second longest beach is almost certainly apocryphal. Should be removed.

I've just added the Tamil script but I've found both "தமிழ் நாடு" and "தமிழ்நாடு" without the space - can somebody tell me a bit about this? — Hippietrail 14:07, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- "தமிழ்" and "நாடு" are two distinct words meaning "Tamil" (adj.) and "country" respectively, but they are occasionally written together (compare compound adjectives and nouns in, say, Sanskrit and German). Since the option with a space is much more common, I'd recommend leaving the article the way it is. Ambarish | Talk 19:25, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Trading with the Romans in the 14th - 16th Centuries? I suspect the reference is supposed to be to one or more of the European powers, but would need someone actually familar with it to fix it. I came across it as part of a project to disambiguate the links for Romans, but this information is at a minimum in need of an explanation of what the people in the area meant when referring to Romans and at most a correction. I am deleting the link, but leaving the text intact. --165.247.168.157 06:22, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
Is the reference to Panchamukha Anjaneya temple in Tiruvallur (tourism.. right in the end) really necessary here while more important temples being left out? I think it should find a place in Tiruvallur page or Hanuman page, and not here. -srini 16:18, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

cleaned up English in Economy section, but...
I do think it sounds very clunky in general. It doesn't flow smoothly and probably could do with a 70% rewrite, although i doubt anybody would like to go through that. It will probably have to be achieved through aggressive step-by-step rewording and editing.

Thanks for appreciating my edits to Chennai. Bulk of the content came from User:Brhaspati followed by an initiative from User:Nichalp to bring it up to FA status. I only helped these people.
I agree that Tamil Nadu (the article) is in a mess right now. Will try to do some cleanup. But, I don't have much time to spend here to bring it up to FA status. If other people also chime in, it might be possible.

I've made a minor removal of a couple sentences from the intro which covered the history of other Indian states. This article was far too long, and rambling (especially the history section). Some unnecessary phrases here and there should be removed.

USD
Hi, I have disambiguated use of $ with the suffix of USD (United States Dollar), as per the style guide. However, I am wondering why we include US dollar amounts at all, given that the english wikipedia is used by more than just Americans, and further, that India generally implies, by Wikipedia tradition, use of British terms and spelling. Should we remove the "translation" of currency amounts into other currencies or perhaps switch to/add mention of £Stirling amounts instead? --Improv 13:33, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Use Rs only. Apart form anything else, you get into such unnecessary questions as what exchange rate to use. Imc 19:28, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Recorded History
The first sentence in the History section says:
- "Tamil Nadu's recorded history dates back about 6000 years..."
I believe this is an innaccurate statement. Tamil Nadu does not have a recorded history going back 6000 years. The earliest 'recorded history is not older than the fifth century C.E. What we think as history in the types of the Sangam legends are just that - legends. It is sad that we Tamils suffer from this habit of pre-assuming our greatness rather than objectively documenting our history. We ARE a gret people, but that doesnot mean we have to have had the oldest civilisation.

Cities??
Since when did Avadi and Ambattur become cities? :) They are both suburbs of chennai and it is highly misleading to have these listed in the same league as Chennai, Coimbatore etc. I don't know why/how the Category - Tamil Nadu lists these two, but I think they should be removed. --Madhu 20:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Comment from a reader: I find the history part not neutral, in particular, anti-British. It skips the three centuries of British rules, merely listing a few names of those who opposed British rule. I was hoping to learn about Tamil Nadu under British rule, and I was disappointed. I didn't edit anything, because I don't know enough, but I hope someone else will make a neutral edit of this period of history. 19 Jan 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.120.12.10 (talk) 23:14, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Unbalanced Article
Although, the article is long and detail, it does not provide a balanced view about Tamil Nadu. The economy section can be shorted and details can be transferred to a separate article: Tamil nadu economy. I agree with Sundar, that Famous Tamilians of Modern era does not provide much information about the topic under the discussion, and just a link in the See also section or people section should be sufficient.
Social ills such as inequality, poverty, “gated communities”, slums, lack of equal treatment for women, killing of female children, cast system etc are glossed over or not mention at all.
This seems like an article written by a person for some sort of ego boost. --Natkeeran 05:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Notable people
I feel that this section needs to removed from the article.
- Such a list is inherently subjective because we'd not able to draw a line on the N people whose names can be here.
- This gives room for a lot of fancruft.
- The same logic that holds against a trivia section - if someone is notable and RELEVANT enough to be mentioned in this article, then there would be some context in which he can be mentioned as part of the prose; there's no need for a separate list at the end.
- If at all one wants to have a list, let there be a separate list elsewhere and not in this list. Ideally, even a separate list article needs to be based on a verifiable attribute. For example, List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, List of Speakers of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, List of Vice-Chancellors of Universities in Tamil Nadu, List of Gnanpith award winners from Tamil Nadu, List of Indian Hockey team members from Tamil Nadu etc.,
If no one comes up with a convincing argument as to why this list should not be removed until monday, I'll remove that. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 13:12, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Citation for Tolerant state
I think if some one can dig up the stats and compare the religiuos riots % in various states and then compare the incidence of rape, that can serve as a citation for the stanza The mutual interaction of various philosophies, schools of thought, and religious ideologies in the state has made it one of the most tolerant and universalistic states. Job well done on this article so far. The article is divided into neat sections, and contains good photographs (love the ones on the wind turbines and reservoir). National /Official / Classical language
Tamil is of course the official language in Tamil nadu. "It has achieved classical language status" sounds like a competitive feat "achieved". I have changed this into "it is one of the two classical languages of India". Tamil is not an official language of India (Hindi is the official language, and english is an associate official language. Tamil is one of the 22 "national" languages of India as per the Indian Constitution. The logic is, no language of India is "less national" or "more national" than any other. Refer: http://india.gov.in/knowindia/india_at_a_glance.php I have made the changes, if anyone have alternative thoughts, please let me know.
There are two different versions for Tamil Nadu article on wikipedia, one you get when "Tamil Nadu" is typed, and one when "Tamil nadu" is typed for searching. Why is it so, and can the contributors do something about it? "Tamil Nadu" version has a lot of vandalism in Politics and Literature section.
Your interpretation of the Constitution is incorrect. The federal government of India located in Delhi is called the "Union". Although the general use of the world "Union" would have you believe it refers to the entire country, it is ONLY in reference to the federal government. The language the federal government (located in Delhi, a Hindi-speaking territory) is Hindi (and English). It does not make Hindi the official language of India - read it again. Hindi is the official language of the UNION, along with English. Union =/= The Republic of India, Union = Federal Government in Delhi. All the languages in Schedule 8 of the Constitution are equally Official. Just to add, I am Tamil but not anti-Hindi, as a matter of fact, I think Hindi should be made at least the Link Language of some sort... but my opinion has no relevance here, just trying to show I'm not being biased in my interpretation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.252.71.146 (talk) 21:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Tnlogo.png
Image:Tnlogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Agriculture images
I would like to propose using both of the 'paddy' images, the one from Kanyakumari as well as the one from Theni. Both of these images offer a unique and interesting view that is relevant to the section on agriculture. Also, the image of the farmers in the field near Vellore has a certain element of "human interest" because it's the only image where people are actually visible (and they are clearly engaged in agricultural pursuits). On the other hand, the image of a cluster of grapes looks exactly like a cluster of grapes from anywhere else in the world - not a unique view all. I would therefore suggest removing the image of the grapes and using the 3 larger scale images of the different agricultural areas in Tamil Nadu. I'd like to go ahead and make the change because it seems to me a very reasonable compromise, but I am certainly open to discussion if anyone has other suggestions. - What is however not clear is whether primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools overlap. If it does, the number could be different and very less. Docku (talk) 16:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Reliable Source
I am copying a section from the Demographics section: The state, during the peak of the dravidian movement, experienced strong anti-Brahmin sentiments. The government's 69% reservation policy in educational institutions for OBCs and MBCs is, in general, resented by many forward castes for being a policy of reverse discrimination. I realise the first reference has nothing to do with the topic. Second reference seems to be a blog. I have a feeling that this should be removed unless a reliable source can be found. Please correct me if I am wrong. Docku (talk) 03:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia:Reliable source examples for some information. Since there is no response, I am going to remove it.DockHi 16:43, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Narcissistic Article
First section tries very hard to prove how TN is greater than India. I am from Maharashtra, and when you Tamil people were eating mud with rice (you still do) we had and still have , and will always have more industries, more GDP. And even though power is kinda fucked up these days , your call centers can't match with industries in my state. And I hate to portray my regionalism, but you always do that. And our GDP doesn't come from call center , dear software coolies. While Maharasthra gives almost 50% of taxes of whole India , we don't take pride in that and start showing off. Start section of this article just turned me off. "While India has .. TN has ..".
What I hate is this "us against them" attitude of Tamil people, always trying hard to prove how better they are than rest of the India. Well, good luck imitating American Accent in your call centers guys. If you service them well then who knows you might get a raise to Senior Customer Service Representative and increase GDP of Tamil Nadu.
Peace. Vande Mataram.
- Interesting perspective. Pls try to keep it Civil. DockuHi 14:22, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, this comment by the editor touches the heights of racism and regionalism. Strangely, however,no one has taken it upon him to tag the article with NPOV. Comparisons don't constitute NPOV. For example, Kerala has a literacy rate of 90+ in comparison to that of India which is around 65 and there is nothing wrong in Keralites mentioning this fact in their article-RavichandarMy coffee shop 04:31, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Well the article has some problems for instance the source cited for the claim that tamil civilzation is as old as mesopotamia is frankly speaking a joke. There is no argument about Tamil being an old culture ranging back to antiquity, but that doesn't justify such questionable mesopotamia comparisons. For such things the article needs to cite proper peer reviewed scientific sources and not yellow press articles.--Kmhkmh (talk) 14:16, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Such stark racism and then you try to end your unsigned article with "Peace. Vande Mataram."? First of all, get your facts perfectly right. Many companies choose to have their headquarters in the state of MH, particularly Mumbai; some of these companies don't even function that much in the state of MH. Many PSUs being a case in point. Since they are essentially headquarterd there, they pay excise duties from there. Secondly, the largest number of call centers are not based in TN. Heard of Gurgaon?
People like you (same IQ or lack of thereof; not MHians, who I am sure are not bigoted as yourself) probably vote for Lalu or some other illiterate retard.
If the start of this article (and the facts) turns you off, consider reading some other article.
Lastly, since you are incapable of debating and probably belong to some kind of radical group that's the bane of this nation, make changes to MH and write about how MH is omg the best in the world and how its full of MHians only and nobody else from outside MH. Or better still, about how you provide food to mud-eating Tamils.

Poor Structure/Lack of Objectivity
This article has an abundance of useful content, but it appears to be cluttered and disorderly. The structural format of the article is terrible, and some of the information, such as that mentioning the HDI in the opening section, is obviously subjective. It appears as an attempt to glorify Tamil Nadu's accomplishment in terms of HDI instead of objectively presenting the information. A better way to phrase it would be:
Tamil Nadu has an HDI of 0.736, significantly higher than the national average of 0.619.
Also, it does not seem to fit well in the opening. Perhaps moving it to the demographics section or to the table of information that accompanies the opening paragraph (to the right) would be more appropriate. Msx1692 (talk) 21:16, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I guess your problem is with HDI. These are facts and referenced and we cant help it if it sounds glorifying. I dont mind rephrasing it but I object moving it elsewhere. DockuHi 21:25, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think Msx1692 has a valid point, for instance, the pages of Egypt and UK do not have the HDI in the opening section. There's no reason it should be in the opening section, at the very least, it must be rephrased to sound less glorifying.

- I have rewritten this section to improve its clarity while trying not change the factual content significantly. While Tamil is the only official language of Tamil Nadu, I have clearly indicated that Hindi and English are official at the national level and widely spoken throughout the region. I did however remove a long-unsourced assertion regarding the Tamil Sangams that was problematic. Any mention of the Sangams needs should be clearly labelled as legendary or mythopoeic rather than purely historical. Doc Tropics 17:41, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

- I am not the editor who originally added Hindi and in fact I was going to remove it but it seems to be a point of contention that has been raised before so I tried instead to address it and attempted a compromise phrasing. As I understand it Hindi IS an offical language of the country and therefore recognized in Tamil Nadu, but if the word "common" isn't the correct descriptive, please do change it to be more accurate. well...good work....but i just came cuz i saw hindi as an official lang which is wrong cuz it would never happpen ....hindi in tamilnadu is never gonna be possible......hindhi has absolutely no future in tn......& moreover there was a big uproar in ta parliament when hindi was includen in the mile stones in highways & people r planning to use tamil in official proceedings in high courts which is now only english .....
& ur point tht " As I understand it Hindi IS an offical language of the country and therefore recognized in Tamil Nadu," is not true cuz we in tn dont consider as any official lang .....
btw good luck .....--Doctor muthu's muthu wanna talk ? 20:11, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Population data conflict
The population data in the article's infobox conflicts with that in the List of states and union territories of India by population. The Demographics and Religion section mentions both values. Looks like the latter is from the 2001 census, while the infobox value (also mentioned in the demographics section) is an estimate as of 2008. Wouldn't it be best to stick with a single value? Casablanca2000in (talk) 03:23, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- This has been discussed at WP:RSN a while back apparently (I don't have the link now, but I had the same question a while back and was told about it) and it appears to be acceptable to use the 2008 estimates from World Gazetteer for general population figures. However, that data doesn't go down to specifics like religion etc, and in those cases the 2001 census is used. Hope this helps. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 03:36, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

- Main link above is now broken.
You may have noticed from my Userpage that I have concentrated my Wikipedia editing on Protected Areas of Tamil Nadu. I have generally avoided Tamil Nadu, but have just started Tamil Nadu#Environmentalism.
- I have recently developed comprehensive Lists of Environmental Organizations and Resource Persons in Tamil Nadu which other editors objected to as a stand alone article. Please see: User_talk:Singularity42#Tamil_Nadu.23Environmentalism and Talk:Environment_of_India.
- Some have suggested that it be merged with Environment_of_India#Tamil_Nadu, but I think it would be best added to Tamil_Nadu#Environmentalism.
I want help from the regular editors here on this, especially the best way to fit the sortable tables into Tamil_Nadu#Environmentalism. What do you think? Marcus334 (talk) 22:19, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Removing subcategories for FA
I have removed several subcategories per Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states and the WP:FA examples of Karnataka and West Bengal. I have made some grammatical edits and switched and added some images but not removed any content. However, content of History, Culture and Economy needs to be drastically reduced to be seriously considered for FA. WikiProject Indian states recommends that sections should not exceed 4 paragraphs. Previous editors of this article would be best to do this mega-editing. Marcus334 (talk) 07:50, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- One of the possible ways to reduce is move some portions into separate articles, like Religion into Religion in Tamil Nadu similar to Religion in Karnataka. Also, we have Demographics and Religion section, while we also have a Religion subsection in Culture. I feel the items in Culture can move to Religion in Tamil Nadu, with only concise information moved to Demographics and Religion section. There are some statements which seem to come from individual's view points in many sections, which can be reduced / removed, depending on whether we can find reliable sources. Discrepancy in the section "Religions"
In said section, two consecutive sentences contradict each other slightly: "Among Muslims, 97.5% are Sunni and the rest are Shias.", followed by "All Muslims in Tamil Nadu are Sunnis, ..." There are two possibilities: either the first sentence refers to Muslims worldwide, which would pose the question of relevance to this section - or the second sentence ignores a shia minority existing in this state. If anyone knows about this, please clarify!
Regards, Benito (talk) 18:53, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for catching that. I couldnt find the exact percentage of shia muslims in TN, but did find they are there, so the second sentence is factually wrong. I have modified it now.--Sodabottle (talk) 19:13, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Validity of the dates in the introduction
The region has been the home of the Tamil people since at least 500 AD. Its classical language Tamil has been in use in inscriptions and literature for 1500–2000 years.
I find the above numbers given in the Introduction to be quite surprising...given the fact there is ample evidence (already given in the latter part of the article) that Tamils have lived in that region from at least 4-5th century BC(based on the Tamil Brahmi inscriptions...and from the centuries BC based on Roman, Ashoka's inscriptions as well)
The same goes for inscriptions and literature, The date of the Tamil Brahmi should be used as the earliest known date of Tamil inscriptions.
The dates currently used seem to be arbitrarily chosen without any sound evidence to back them up.
Furthermore
About 60% of the total epigraphical inscriptions found by ASI in India are from Tamil Nadu and most of which are in Tamil language.[13]
I would like to add that 55% of the inscriptions found in India are Tamil (based on the same archeological Survey of India report referred to in the main article). I believe this to be an important point and one that should not be overlooked.

- the BC/AD must be a mistake. i have changed it now. Now the literature dating is more dicey. Last Sangam is dated from 100 BC to 300 AD so we can safely say 1500-2000 years. Beyond that we have only Tholkappiyam and the dating controversy of tholkappiyam comes into picture. Since its the lead, lets add only the uncontested facts. And regards to the asi point, go ahead and add it (the same sentence you have quoted can be modified to present this fact as well)--Sodabottle (talk) 18:49, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Crescent I am not sure. Indeed, I have made changes to reflect NPOV, especially in areas where it seems to glorify the state. For instance, a HDI of .736 was considered "closer" to China's 0.842. There is no basis for this, 0.732 is closer to 0.7 than 0.8! Economy Section changes
Following changes made in economy section...
Tamil Nadu is the fifth largest economy currently in India and no longer the third largest. Changed the wording from 'strongest' to 'largest'. Also the total FDI approved is cumulative over the period 1991-2002. Note the word approved. In the period 1991-2002 actual FDI inflow was less than 50% approved for all of India. Tamil Nadu probably fared much better than most states in this account but someone needs to find out the data. BTW is Tamil Nadu the second most industrialized state? What about Gujarat/Maharashtra being the top two states?
- Maharashtra is the first. Tamil Nadu is the second after it. You can look up the TN Govt website (and maybe Chennai Corporation) for some facts. - Ram
- I concur with Ram, I remember reading in an Indian newspaper that Maharasthra had 23,000 rupees SGDP per capita, and Tamil Nadu 22,000, Gujarat had 19,000 as of this year. I've added a reference to the Nokia, Flextronics and BMW plants in the Industry section. I've also renamed the "Industry" section to "Industry & Manufacturing" to be more specific. - JaffnaBoy
- The article needs to be cleaned up more. Some sections are more biased towards Madras. It has to be cleaned up and then made into a Featured article, like the one in Tamil Wikipedia - Ram
- I modified the wording of my additions so that they are more "subdued"/objective. Thanks for the tip Ram. - JaffnaBoy (Oct 13,2005)
Someone has deleted the section stating Tamil civilization is one of the world's oldest, etc. from the introduction section. The full extent of the Chola empire (including coastal burma, cambodia and thailand) has been erased. These may be maliscious attacks as they haven't explained themselves in here. Perhaps someone can edit that back in or rewind. -Kumar Oct.2005
Section related to Politics
For some reason, people insist on expanding this to show how the pre-independence part evolved. I spent some time trying to clean this up. Particularly, one person, Saktivel has been responsible for this. I cannot get through to him. Someone has to point it out that this is not a blog and he should not put out his POV here. This is too detailed for something here. People need to look at things written in other states to see what should be written here.
Seal of Tamil Nadu
The Seal of Tamil Nadu is in fact, should be mentioned the seal of the Tamil Nadu Government. I tried to edit it, but couldnt find the phrase in the info box. And historically, the tower represented on the seal is the temple tower in Srivilliputhur, the birth place of Andal.
Need to clean up the History
Someone needs to clean up the history section in Tamil Nadu. It has to much micro-history. No one wishes to see subsections with one line in them. Can someone address this please?
Tenkasi - a city?
- It is absoultely ludicrous to include Tenkasi in the league with cities viz, Chennai, Madurai, Covai, Tirchy, Salem and Nellai. First a contributor should know, it is an article to be used all over the world and not the area to satisy oneself by entering irrelevent points into the article. Such type of erronous informations may strictly be prohibited. Many towns are waiting to join the elite club in the city grade viz, Tirupur, Tuticorin, Nagarcoil, Thanjavur, Karur etc. Tenkasi is still long way to go.
I have loads of high quality images of chennai, coimbatore, madurai and pondicherry, please let me know how to upload the relevant images in this page

Inconsistencies with the lead section and the body
There seems to be a lot of inconsistencies with the lead section and the body, especially the economy section. For example the lead says that TN is the fifth largest contributor to India's GDP. But the economy section says that TN is the third largest economy in India. These inconsistencies need to be resolved. Further I propose the citations in the lead section should be moved to the appropriate section in the body. Like other Good Articles we should ensure that there are no citations in the lead section. What is Hindi word for Tamilnadu?
Hi,
Isn't the Hindi word for Tamilnadu state Hindi: तमिलनाडु? ..असक्तः सततं कार्य कर्म समाचर | असक्तः हि आचरन् कर्म.. Humour Thisthat2011 14:24, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
- There is no hindi (or english) equivalent for the the Tamil "ழ்”, but तमिलनाडु is the generally accepted hindi transliteration. But it is unnecessary here as this is not a Hindi word and Hindi isnt a official language in TN. Transliterations are generally added only in either of these cases. We already have an ogg file for pronunciation purposes. The person who added the hindi transliteration added it as "national name", which is false, as there is no "national language for india" and there is no such thing as "national name"--Sodabottle (talk) 14:29, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello - I'll be reviewing this article for GA status and should have my full review up shortly. However, just in a quick first glance, I can see that this article has many of the same problems as the article I reviewed by this nominator yesterday. I would very much suggest that the nominator work with a more experience GA writer to improve their articles before bringing them back to GAN. More shortly, Dana boomer (talk) 14:04, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- There is a significant amount of unsourced information. Some of it is marked with citation needed tags, much of it is not. Statistics, opinions, quotes, etc. need references. This is the biggest issue with the article, and it will take the longest to fix.
- Quite a few probably unreliable references (These are examples, found during a quick look. The number of dead links and the missing information in many refs makes it much more difficult to check reference reliability.):
- #32 - IndiaandIndians.com
- #33 - Tamilspider.com
- #152 - Another Wikipedia article?!?
- #163 - Sports in Chennai
- 42 dead links (wow!), see here for details.
- Many refs need additional information. All web refs should include a title, publisher and access date at the very least, and an indication of their language if they are not in English.
- The weighting of the History section seems rather off, with two sections and eight paragraphs being spent on the period between 600 and 1300 AD, and only one paragraph each being given to the other periods. This section should be rewritten to better balance the sections, based on the weight given them in high-quality reliable sources.
- In-line external links, such as those found in the Leather industry section, should be removed or turned into references.
- Text should not be sandwiched between two images, or between an infobox and an image. This happens in several places throughout the article.
- Standardize to one variety of English - there is both program and programme, for instance, as well as both meter and metre.
- Links to three disambiguation pages: Marigold, Royal fern and Mahindra World City
The huge number of dead links, the missing sources, and the lack of information given for many refs makes it quite difficult to check for things like reliable referencing, copyright compliance, etc. This article is going to require a significant time investment to bring it up to compliance with the good article criteria. Again, I would suggest that this nominator begin working with an experience GA author to improve their comprehension of the GA criteria. I also, again, see no indication the the nominator has worked on the article - cleanup before a GA nomination is often a large amount of work, and sometimes almost completely re-writing and re-sourcing the article is necessary. Please let me know if you have any questions, Dana boomer (talk) 14:25, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
