New Record

http://newsen.com/news_view.php?uid=200810211006501002&code=100200 TVXQ has set a new Oricon Chart record in Japan. This makes them the top group in Asia. Shouldn't this be on the article?

"Asia" includes a lot more countries than just South Korea and Japan, and while topping the Oricon charts as many times as the group has is a huge achievement, it doesn't quite bring them to the "top in asia". Plus, there are other issues with the oricon record, such as low single sales despite the number one position and the release of the singles during "noncompetitive" weeks, etc. As such, they could probably be considered the top foreign group in Japan. - rairakku(talk to me) 16:26, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I said top in Asia because they have already made similar records in other countries, such as China. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.160.122.242 (talk) 07:06, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

That makes no difference. Despite what may be popular beliefs, the three countries China, Japan, and South Korea do not make up Asia. ^^ I agree with Mitsuki about the issues with the Oricon record. But I think, considering the Oricon chart results, TVXQ can be considered the most successful group in Japan this year (counting both foreign and non-foreign artists). --PeaceNT (talk) 07:51, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Peace NT i was just using China as an example. Notice i said many other countries INCLUDING China. However, i agree with you. =] But didn't they get into the Guiness Book of Records..? Sorry i don't know much about that but it sounds interesting and i couldn't find anything about that in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.180.117.141 (talk) 21:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

TVXQ's broken records in China? As far as i know, they've only held a few concerts in china, although the album "T" was pretty popular in taiwan... in terms of awards and popularity in china, i think w-inds and super junior are way more popular as foreign groups than TVXQ. About the guiness book of records - supposedly the group is the record holder for biggest fanclub, but the record has not been published in the 2009 edition of the book. because of that, we don't have any solid evidence to back up the claim. if you live in the UK, you can apparently confirm that by texting or calling a certain number... but again, it's hard to use that as "evidence" =/. - rairakku(talk to me) 22:59, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Tone

I've noticed that every so often when I view this article, it contains some statements that are rather biased, use weasel words, sound like advertisements, etc. Therefore, I would appreciate it if we could keep this NPOV. Additionally, is it necessary to include the member profiles? Those in general don't seem very reliable or verifiable and detract from the overall tone that Wikipedia's articles are supposed to have. Thanks! --Michelleyy 02:02, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Word. This page is MESSY, although I'm assuming that this page was written by non-native English speakers. If they ARE English speakers...woah. But most Korean pop articles are like this; look at H.O.T.. SKS2K6 03:58, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Title

Why is it under TVXQ? Is that their official name? SKS2K6 07:38, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

That's what i was thinking.. I thought it was dong bang shin ki.. mirageinred 17:36, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Well the official site address is tvxq.com, and that's the best information we have. It doesn't blatantly state its official name. mirageinred 17:39, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Their official name is 東方神起, and the romanization would be Tong Vfang Xien Qi: TVXQ. It's strange that they use a chinese name though they are a korean band.. but in korea they use Dong Bang Shin Ki xD TLflow 20:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
They have different names for different countries. TVXQ is their official name for most English-speaking countries. Since this is the English Wiki, TVXQ would be most appropriate to put it under. East.sea 00:15, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
TVXQ is their official international name. For all I know, Korea rarely uses the romanization and instead chooses to use the official characters/Korean characters. The idea behind the Chinese characters is that SM ENT intended for the band's fame to spread to all of Asia and so the company chose to use the Chinese characters since China is the largest country in Asia. Gloriouskies 23:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
lol, which makes it all the more silly, considering the proper pinyin acronym would be DFSQ. even if it weren't in pinyin and instead in another romanization system, (even for a non-mandarin dialect), the "X" and "Q" are distinctively pinyin-only. few other romanization schemes for east asian languages use those letters to represent initial consonants.71.232.100.151 19:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
oh, and "V" doesn't exist at all in pinyin.
From what I know, their name is written in hanja so that when they traveled to certain other countries in Asia, their name would mean the same. Oncamera 03:46, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I think that's true too cause it can apply to Hanja and Kanji at the same time. But then again - Kanji doesn't always have the same meaning as the original Chinese characters so same meaning idea might not hold true. Gloriouskies 03:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Dong Bang Shin Ki, Tong Vfang Xien Qi,or DBSG, it really dosen't matter because all these names belong to the group. The only difference is that these names for DBSK are from all over the world.

But the group still originated from Korea, so I think that the Chinese characters should be pronounced as Hanja, and thus Romanized in RRK. [1] This article proves that TVXQ is only used within Asia, and DBSK is used worldwide. So,the title of this article should be DBSK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amphitere (talkcontribs) 16:24, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
But it's officially TVXQ. When has SM ever used anything else? We go by the official name, even though it may not be the most common (the best example being Chunsangjihee, which is apparently The Grace now. SKS2K6 (talk) 17:36, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

About the name: It should be "Tong Vfang Shin Qi" per WP:NAME#Prefer spelled-out phrases to abbreviations. moocows rule 04:58, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, the name's officially stated as TVXQ, which is better recognized the spelled-out version. - rairakku(talk to me) 06:01, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Not NPOV

The heading's pretty self-explanatory, I think. mirageinred 05:40, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

hobbies are deleted.

for now. I thought they were unencylopedic and seemed more like a trivia. If anyone thinks otherwise, he/she can add it back, I guess. mirageinred 14:26, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Do the members deserve an individual page?

the pre-fame section is clogged up with their individual history and how they got to join TVXQ. Do they need a new page? Not that I know much about them. mirageinred 14:27, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I think they deserve seperate pages. It would give others a more in-depth background on the members as individuals. -Maira

Hmmm.. I think if you're going to continue to contribute here, you should make a new account. And I honestly don't know much about them at all. I'm going to need more than myself to start a new page.. so wanna help? mirageinred 05:19, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure if they deserve individual pages or not. Although they are individually more popular than the members of Super Junior, SJ needed it because they're so big. As for TVXQ...what have they done as individuals so far? SKS2K6 06:08, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm.... mirageinred 06:28, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
I think they deserve seperate pages, because the taiwanese group Fahrenheit have got seperate pages too, so why not dbsk?
The problem is what you put on those individual pages, because they haven't done much outside their group. It'd be constantly referring back to DBSK anyway. All that'd be there is their familly history and education...Hsstorm 06:12, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

1st Live Concert Album

I noticed it wasn't on there for some reason. I added it, hope no one minds!

Cool. Thank you. I don't know why it wasn't there either. mirageinred 01:04, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Current News?

I added a current news section just to inform others of what the group is doing recently. I'll up-date it whenever there's new news and delete those that have gotten old. But what should it be titled? When I created the section, someone changed the title, so I changed it to something simpler than both previous ones.

-Off topic- September 20th marked 1000 days since debut for TVXQ ^0^ Also, the cover & tracklisting for their 3rd Korean album was released today; the album will consist of a DVD and poster as well. I can't wait!

That's great, but please keep it NPOV. mirageinred 19:19, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I realize that you're new, but this is not the place to advertise where people can buy their albums. If you want to stay, it's a lot easier to make your own account, btw. mirageinred 01:21, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I wasn't aware; I won't advertise again. Actually I have one, but I don't know how to sign my name with it.. (embarassing >.<). I'm going to up-date the title & discography since it was officially released (including the tracklisting)! (sorry I must sound insane, it's just that I'm a huge fan)
Hey, it's cool. Just sign with four tildes like this: ~~~~. mirageinred 19:24, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh, thanks! :) I made my first page for Zhang Li Yin (Jang Ri In) yesterday, but my computer crashed so I wasn't able to add citation for anything. =/ But thanks again! I'll try to help with the individual member pages when my computer's back up. Sinbihaeyo 22:00, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Requesting citations..

This especially applies to the pre-fame section. Where is the information coming from? The official website certainly doesn't provide this information. I think this problem lies in the fact that most information come from unofficial online fan cafes or forums which require registration, but there must be one accesible source. mirageinred 03:45, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Regarding TVXQ Discography

Regarding TVXQ Discography, TVXQ already released more than 20 albums. So i had created a new page for TVXQ Discography, so that the TVXQ page will looks more tidy.

-Thank you!!

Uh... Is this Sinbihayeo? Sure seems like it. Well nice job=) mirageinred 23:27, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Profile Pictures

I changed the profile pictures. I thought the last pictures didn't show enough.Yukare129 17:20, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure who changed the profile pictures (again) but thank you; I think that the pictures should show what they look like now (most recently) instead of older ones.
Note to whoever uploaded the pics: they'll be deleted without a full copyright tag. SKS2K6 03:29, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
I know one of the policies of wikipedia is not to bite newcomers but you must tag them accordingly, explain the sources of the picture and why it qualifies for fair use. Or as SK said they are going to be gone in no time. mirageinred 13:45, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for changing the profile pics and the group pic! the last pics were really old.. TLflow 21:22, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Trivia

Since a lot of the editing deals with things like weight...I say we remove them. The weight of a person is trivial, and it changes frequently, so specific numbers are pointless. SKS2K6 06:13, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Yep. I think blood type should be removed too despite what many k-pop enthusiasts like to think.. mirageinred 18:00, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

woot woot

finally there are some sources... for a page this big, we probably need 10-15 more? mirageinred 00:47, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

What the hell does this mean?

The woman, whose surname is Ko, left a note that stated that everytime TVXQ came on, viewers changed the channel right next to the drink which was there when he was filming a variety show. She said that she did not suspect that anyone would drink it so she was not permanently charged because they did not think it was homicide. It sounds like awkward translation from a Korean news article or something. I wish I could see the original. mirageinred 14:59, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

There's a part that's been removed. She states something along the lines of 'whenever they appear on the screen people change the channel', and only little kids like them. I actually have a picture of the original letter as well as the drink (screencaps from KBS News) I'll send it to you on your user page. I'm going to try to type up the letter..

Sinbihaeyo 02:57, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

A couple typos in your writing but I can understand. Thank you. I cited the letter in the article. Really clarifies a lot. mirageinred 22:01, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Vacation...?

How can there be four stories total, one for each member, when there are 5 of them? Was one missing at the moment? Was it during Hero's injury?SKS2K6 21:48, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps U-know? mirageinred 21:49, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't know...but this (VACATION consisted of four episodes (including a special) which were broadcasted at Yonsei University on July 7 to August 8, 2006. Each episode portrayed four different stories for each individual DBSK member. For this drama, the band recorded an original soundtrack which consisted of two tracks (and their instrumental versions).) should be corrected. :P SKS2K6 21:51, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
And I can't because I didn't watch the drama.... SKS2K6 21:51, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Yea.. I'm not too much of a TVXQ enthusiast either... mirageinred 22:13, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
There was one episode that had two of the members (Changmin and Junsu) stories told, so there were only four episodes and four stories because they shared the same one.Oncamera 17:31, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
That's good. But what's this about Yonsei University? Was it only played there? Was it filmed there? Because right now, it just seems like they only played it there and not on national TV. This has to be clarified. SKS2K6 23:11, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
It was filmed throughout S. Korea and shown only in theatres at Yonsei university (so it wasn't shown on national TV)--in S. Korea, a theatrical TV Drama isn't shown on television, per se. It's like an upgraded TV drama, with better camera and sound quality so they need an actual theatre to show it. Vacation is planned to be released on DVD sometime in the future for people who were not able to see it in theatres (no cameras or cell phones were allowed in, so you won't see bootlegs on the internet besides the official previews released by SM or written summaries by fans who attended). Oncamera 01:17, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Vacation will be out on DVD with 'O'-正.反.合 Version D (Disk 2). Tower Records Japan states a Nov 15th release, whereas Yesasia states a Nov 10th release. But Yesasia only has the product, not the details yet. I'm not sure about Korea though. Sinbihaeyo 22:45, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Cleanup Tag

Since this probably needs to be discussed in order to be cleaned up, what parts of this article should one edit to be cleaned up? Is it filled with useless or unremarkable information? Or NPOVed? Too long?... Oncamera 12:44, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Here are some of the problems I see.
  • informal tone here and there
  • absence of sources (at least 20 recommended but thats just my opinion)
  • disproportionate section on their popularity. yet nothing describes their music
  • no section on criticism despite the number of critics in korea mirageinred 21:49, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
By the way, it's not too long. We're good for now unless it becomes as long as BoA. mirageinred 21:50, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, with sources about old information, I think it's a bit hard trying to find websites with archives that far back. The absence of information about their music -- you're right -- how should the article be set up to include that information? For the critics, I don't know how many native Korean speakers contribute to the English article, but if one can find the articles to provide information, then that should be started/included. Oncamera 17:07, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm a native speaker. I just haven't gone to Korea in six years. mirageinred 20:23, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

I took off the cleanup tag, as it's really not necessary. It's more about getting rid of the "fan" language and adding in references (which is why both of those tags are still up there). SKS2K6 07:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I think the page should be edited, because if you notice, for singers, they do an organized list of albums, and they include the number of albums sold, the album cover, and the peak on a chart or something. But this page seems to have NO section, and the album numbers vary from each paragraph. For example, some people claim Rising Sun is the 3rd Album, but its the 2nd. I think a proper list would be good.

Cyanoacrylate drink incident

I put this back, because someone removed this. It is a notable incident, and I do not see why this should be deleted. Explanation Xo01Emmie10ox? mirageinred 21:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Wow I didn't even notice that. The threat letter is a key part of the incident. I don't see why it had to be deleted. Is it because her surname was mentioned? As long as it is released to the public, there is no reason to exclude her name. I looked at page history, but I still can't find who did. mirageinred 01:10, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Same here. I didn't notice about the letter either until someone e-mailed me and asked where they could find the translation for the letter; while I was linking to the page I realized it wasn't on the page -___- Sinbihaeyo 22:21, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

positions.

I just wanna say the position claims should be modified.

Hero: Baritenor, lead vocalist. U-know: Baritone, rapper, leader. Micky: Baritone, rapper. Xiah: Baritenor. Max: Tenor.

Although the article claims U-know and Micky are basses, there technically are no bass vocalists in TVXQ.

Any opinions or confirmations are appreciated. Aznality 05:26, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I prefer it as it were before, with possibly U-KNOW being changed to baritone:
  • Hero: Main Vocal
  • U-KNOW: Bass, Leader
  • Micky: bass-baritone
  • Xiah: baritenor
  • Max: tenor

Oncamera 12:55, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

^That sounds better than the current information provided at least. Is the person in charge of this section going to revert the info? I'm personally not satisfied with the 'high vocal' or 'middle high vocal' descriptions. Those are not proper vocal classifications, and they should be categorised accordingly. Aznality 21:20, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I changed it, then, to these positions. If someone thinks it should be listed differently, have them comment here with their reasoning. Oncamera 22:05, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
It's better than nothing, although I have a grievance against the existence of positions mostly because they don't follow them in the songs. They just switch similar parts. SKS2K6 22:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Since they're sometimes an a Capella group, I think there needs to be something said about what roles their vocals have for the most part. Oncamera 03:28, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
It's true they switch parts or sing at different keys from time to time. But their vocal ranges does not change. That's why their classifications determines their vocal type. Aznality 15:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Why does everyone insist on putting Max as "Baritone" and especially "Tenor"? His voice is the highest of the group, and is always given the high notes when assigned parts. You couldn't even call his singing voice "low", anyway. -Cassidy
Hmm, Junsu seems to have the highest voice; even his speaking voice is higher than the other members. edit; so yeah, since he has the higher parts usually, I changed his position back to tenor. Tenor is higher than Baritone in vocal ranges, and I wouldn't consider any of the members alto or soprano. Oncamera 08:50, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
I would like to specifically mention high pitch and high voice are two different things. Xiah has a high pitch, but not a tenor high voice. Xiah's vocal range is baritenor, which is in-between baritone and tenor. Hero is also a baritenor. Max is the only true tenor in the group, as he can easily top a high C with his chest voice. I strongly suggest if you wanna edit their vocal types, at least know enough about music/voices before you do so.Aznality (talk) 18:59, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

With regards to Yunho's voice, he should be classified as a Lyric Bass. His voice is also lower than Yoochun's (who is marked as a bass-baritone), so I really don't see why he would be a baritone.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.126.23.65 (talk) 11:29, February 26, 2007(UTC)

I'm certain Yoochun's voice is considered the lowest of the members. oncamera(t) 00:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Yunho is definitely baritone. It isn't his pitch what you listen to. Pitch and voice are two different things. It's his highest chest voice he is capable of.Aznality (talk) 18:59, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Images

As Wikipedia is more and more enforcing free (as opposed to copyrighted fair use) images, is anyone willing to take screencaps? :P Or even better, actual photographs?SKS2K6 08:10, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I can take screencaps (I'm not sure what you mean about actual photographs :/) Of every member individually, or the whole group? Do you have a specific time/interview/performance in mind? (Sorry if this sounds confusing, I'm very tired >.<) Sinbihaeyo 22:02, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, with Wiki policy, promotional shots are not good for articles. In a majority of articles, they're used, but they're slowly being deleted away. In their policy, it says that a picture merely showing someone's appearance is not good enough. So, for celebrity articles, personal candids are the pictures of choice, because they do not belong to a company...which is why I ask for them here. SKS2K6 22:45, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Changed the profile pics. These are pretty candid. I couldn't find a pic for each of them at the same ... concert? though i wanted to make it consistent. Yunho's is the most recent. Yukare129 01:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
I wrote this at the bottom initially, but they're copyrighted. Someone else took the pictures. I think the group pic can stand, since there are no watermarks, but the ones with watermarks aren't acceptable. They're marked for a reason: someone owns them. SKS2K6 01:14, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
I put the credits up, the pics don't really belong to one set person, they're just distributed throughout the fanbase. the watermark is I'm guessing just the site they were originally distributed or something like that. well, i got them from asianfanatics.net soooooo. yeah. i could put up the pics form the mag where the group pic was from, but you said no promotional pics. but, w.e you want.Yukare129 21:27, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Hehe...I think you misunderstand me. My point is that these pictures belong to someone. Sure, we can credit them, and we can say we got them from so-and-so, but that's not the point. Wikipedia has a policy to have absolutely free images, which (in the case of famous people) only come from people who have taken pictures and have uploaded them to share with everyone. If you look at Tyra Banks or Mariah Carey, you can see that. To be an absolutely accessible encyclopedia, you have to have absolutely free and accessible images as well. That's why they warn against finding pictures on Google. I mean, with movie posters and book covers, there's no way of making them free, so they're used under fair use. But as for people, you can (theoretically) always take pictures of them that don't belong to anyone. That's why I say the things I say. It has nothing to do with what I want (personally, I think we should promotional pictures, because they're promotional), but with Wiki policy. SKS2K6 21:33, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

So, does that mean by my uploading it here, its now free and accessable? because these pics are from a promo event but they are taken by peaople who uploaded it to share with everyone. i'm confused. Yukare129 22:38, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh my gosh. I had this whole explanation but I forgot to send it. Anywayz, these pics were uploaded to share with everyone, but THEY did not take the pictures, and therefore they are technically stealing from them. That's why the watermark is key, because it shows who owns it: mydaily (I think it's a Korean news outlet). Now, they may have a free-to-access site, and anyone can see or save the pictures, or even upload them elsewhere, but that's technically stealing, and because they own the picture, they can sue. Wiktionary is not a fansite, but an organization, and because its whole point is to be absolutely free and accessible and free-license and all that, it's a bit strict.
That's why fan-taken pictures are the best, because the fan can release all rights to it and make it free for anyone and everyone to access it. Promotional pictures are accepted only if no other alternative can be found or made. Because anyone can take a picture of someone, though (you don't have a copyright to a body or a person's image), fair-use images are not really acceptable, and those pictures are often frequently deleted. Even though I personally think promotional pictures should be okay, because they're promotional and free, they're still owned by a company, and can't be used here. SKS2K6 02:43, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Ohhhhhhh, i understand now. but then, the pics aren't usually that great quality when they're fan taken... usually, sooo, should the profile pics be changed back? 71.125.155.111 03:15, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Nah, just leave it. You did a good job trying. They may stay awhile, or they may not, so...yeah. SKS2K6 03:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
oh, okay then. i'm sure someone will do something about it then. Yukare129 22:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Host protectiveness

It is somewhat trivial, but I think it's important because it demonstrates the hugeness, and the protectiveness, of their fanbase. Game shows and talk shows are giving them preferential treatment that is not given to anyone else. They are allowed to avoid punishment, sit out on games, and are able to avoid questions simply because they're TVXQ. Other celebrities are afriad to harm TVXQ or embarrass them in anyway because they know that they'll be crucified by the netizens. SKS2K6 23:36, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Solo work

You guys did well in adding things, but I know Micky has a song written called Yuh-Oo-Bi (여우비) I'm pretty sure he composed it AND wrote the lyrics.

He did, I'm sure, and it was on their 1st Live Concert Album. Also, Xiah composed and wrote the lyrics to "네 곁에 숨쉴 수 있다면 (White Lie)" that was included on C & D versions of "O"-正.反.合. Oncamera 02:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Shouldn't White Lies be part of the solo section already? It is a fact that Xiah Junsu composed and sang that song, we should add it in. --Darkmedival 16:39, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Yea, I should have mentioned that as well. On the 1st Live Concert Album there's also a song by Jaejoong (영웅개인기) 발걸음. I think it's him just singing Hannahlove 10:25, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Where is your source? mirageinred 20:15, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
If someone owned the live concert album, I'm sure it would be in the album notes; but I do not, so I can't list a source. Although, with Xiah's song, it's stated on their official site (the balloons version) that he wrote and composed "White Lies". Oncamera 21:59, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
I have the live version album as well as Micky's piano score of the song. The title on the CD track listing is (믹키개인기) 여우비(Like weather...) by Micky. These are the other two on the live CD(영웅개인기) 발걸음 by Youngwoong and (시야개인기)All Rise by Xiah. I just noticed Xiah's song, I just started listening to this album. Is that ok for a source? Please keep this article neutral

This is not a page to glorify the group. The point of the article is to present the group in a neutral, encyclopedic way. I also want to point out that the language used by anonymous editors are usually very informal. Tone used in wikipedia is not the same tone used when you are talking to your friend, not to mention that the edits are not usually accompanied with reliable sources. I also want to say that forums and fanlistings is NEVER allowed and frequent changing of pictures is not necessary. Maybe when a new album comes out but not on a near-monthly basis. mirageinred 20:57, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Solo work

I'd prefer the solo work to be back to its paragraph form, but...what do you guys think? And what happened to that info about Yunho's Japanese movie? SKS2K6 05:39, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I changed Fox Rain to Like Weather..., since Fox Rain is just a made-up song title, whereas Like Weather... is official. Ytlow 16:25, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Awards

Wouldn't all the award criticism be better on the K-pop page? Although it does have a place here, as TVXQ is winning them, I think an awards section in k-pop would be better for all the references and whatnot. SKS2K6 05:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree; they seem to go off a little tangent here when it would be generally better to have them on the k-pop page. Oncamera 13:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I didn't think about that. mirageinred 15:10, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

JaeHo Scandal

I honestly don't see why this needs to be in their article. Is it encyclopedic? What sources for it? It seems confusing, especially compared to the other scandals that have a lot more relevance. I say it should be removed. Oncamera 22:24, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

deleted. it's really really irrelevant and minor. SKS2K6 22:54, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Although I tried to edit it to make it as much encyclopedic as possible, I just didn't get the point of the section. So the point of the section was that they might be gay together? mirageinred 23:30, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Basically, in the banjun drama, jaejoong believed yunho had a crush on him, and that made jaejoong confused. after that, they (in real life, that is) said that for a while, the two were uncomfortable around each other. That is all. SKS2K6 00:14, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Solo work

I have cut a lot of it down, because it was getting too much. Basically, I believe the boundaries should be this: the solo work should consist of work done outside of a group setting (so, excluding one-off performances, a solo song on a group CD, or a cover during a TVXQ concert). I mean, Xiah's duet with Zhang Li Yin is notable. Him singing a solo song on their own soundtrack album isn't. Agree/disagree? SKS2K6 06:29, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree, but what if they actually wrote and composed the song? Like Micky and the song "Fox Rain/Like Weather...?" I don't know, I remember hearing the song played on previews of their Vacation drama, even though it wasn't on the OST. Oncamera 06:39, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't know. Your call. It was just that people kept adding things in that were very minor. A cover song during a concert isn't solo work. But if they composed it and stuff.... Is it notable enough to include here? If you think so, then feel free to readd it. SKS2K6 06:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Eh, I don't really think so. I mean, it played as the background music to the official trailers, but since it hasn't been released, then it really doesn't exist as a solo piece, now that I think about it. Oncamera 07:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
It's on the Live Concert Album. Although Yoochun does not "officially" sing it, he either composed the music or wrote the lyrics. Maybe both; I'm not too clear. But I'm pretty sure that he composed it, because he plays it at the end of the Finding Lost Time banjun (the one with Soohyun and Sungmin). Ytlow 12:00, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, but being on a the live concert album doesn't seem like it was noteworthy enough. I know it was played during the trailer of Vacation, being recorded with the whole band, but it hasn't been released on a significant album, like Xiah's White Lies which is mentioned in the paragraph about the third album. Oncamera 00:46, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

WHY is the name in Chinese?

Bottom line is DBSK/TVXQ is a Korean group, not a Chinese group. Therefor the name should be written in Korean, DBSK, not in Chinese, TVXQ. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tinned Butterfly (talkcontribs) 23:26, 15 January 2007 (UTC).

Their name is written in Hanja and their official site is tvxq.com. They want it like that, and they're the final word. on camera 23:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Micky's Hanja name

Isn't it 祕奇 instead of 祕器? Google search of 祕奇有天 brings up lots of results, while 祕器有天 brings up none, implying that 祕器 is incorrect or far less used than 祕奇. Would appreciate clarification.Ytlow 11:28, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean 秘 instead of 祕? It used to be "秘奇" before someone edited it on January 30, 2007 to "秘器" in the 2003 - 2005: Pre-fame and debut section... In the profile section, "秘奇有天" seems to bring up more articles related to Micky, so it should be changed throughout the article to show which one is more common. oncamera(t) 12:51, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
With Google, 秘奇有天 brings up 28600 while 祕奇有天 brings up 29100. It would be hard to trace which one is official, but 秘器 is definitely wrong IMO. And yeah, I got my 祕 wrong; should be 秘奇有天. 秘奇 roughly translates to mysterious, for reference purposes. Ytlow 05:59, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't know Chinese, so I'm not 100% sure, but when I looked "秘奇" up in the Hanja Dictionary on Naver.com (Korean "Yahoo" or "Google"), 秘 means Hidden, Mysterious, or Secretive, and 奇 means Weapon. Also, Micky has stated publicly (on some TV shows), during their early years, that Micky is 秘奇 (which would be understood in Korea as 'Secret Weapon') and so his name 秘奇有天's meaning/purpose was that he would be the "secret weapon" of the Music Industry (or, if directly translated from his quote, "World of Singers"). These bits of information are also just for reference. --Lodyof (talk) 07:11, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Profile pictures revisited

The images for members (except for u-know and max maybe) are incorrectly and misleadingly tagged as free images. The image clearly says that the image is copyrighted to mydaily, which is some sort of korean newspaper. Thus they're not free images, and no, they don't belong to asianfanatics.net. The asianfanatics.net merely took the images that are copyrighted to mydaily.

The image policy in wikipedia is that unfree pictures that are solely used to identify the subject in question cannot be used anymore. Free pictures only. mirageinred 03:25, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Changmin's photo is from a personal fansite. It was taken by the lady nicknamed 'Butter' from 'You Got The Power'(http://yoooooougotthepower.com). I believe you need her permission. And although it is a good picture, I personally don't think it is the best picture to show who he is. (Fairyfloss0218 10:18, 5 March 2007 (UTC))
It doesn't matter as long as it's free. Any free image (no matter how crappy) is better than an unfree one. Is that her personal website? I want to get her permission. mirageinred 20:24, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Both albums were popular but little is mentioned about them. TVXQ has also won numerous awards but there is no section dedicated to their awards. I know little about the group. Can someone put it together? mirageinred 04:17, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree, there should be some more info on their debut and awards. I was suprised when i first saw this wiki page that 2005 was skipped completely. --Darkmedival 16:41, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Solo Project question

I noticed "Remember" in GoongS is listed in Jae's solo section. Is it true that he sang solo this song for this episode of the movie? I always thought it's still all 5 members??

Also, I know you guys have discussed this many times before, I agree that some solo works are not that notable to be put on, but for the ones which make it into the album or being performed in their own showcase/concert (which means Rising Sun showcase and concert, recently "O" concert as well) - whether they are covers or not - then aren't they notable enough? Wouldn't it still be ok, as long as we state the name of the original singer? Well, just a suggestion, since they are still a part of the tracklist of the DVD/CD , so what do you think? Arthael 03:06, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Seperate Awards Section?

I was wondering if we should add a seperate award section. We know the group has won numerous awards, some not even mentioned in this wiki page from their debut years. And they may grow to be more....should we add a seperate section for this? It will be more consise and easier to read than the paragraphs we have for it. Most artists have this, like Se7en (singer).--Darkmedival 16:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Chinese member

The piece about them considering adding a chinese member and the whole rotation issue was mentioned in their 3rd Story book. Thats why the fans were outraged since it wasn't a rumour anymore. Do I need to quote the translations? Or should it just be mentioned? This is an insert from what they said in the TVXQ's 3rd Story Book (translation):

By the way, the 3rd Storybook IS in the discography page, also in YesAsia. It basically is composed of long messages and pictures of the members, released in Nov. 2004 (yeah their debut year).Darkmedival 17:02, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Group Image

I am changing the group image...I hope you all don't change it back. It is a screencap from one of their interviews so it should be okay, and you can see them all properly and I have further corrected its quality. This took a me a LONG time to find through their massive amounts of interviews, please do not say I can't put it up. Here it is:

--Darkmedival 06:39, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

It's not that we don't like that image or are preferential to the one existing, but the current one is a free image. Someone took the picture on his/her camera, uploaded it, then waived all rights to it. Therefore, it is the best image for this page. This image, although it looks good, has a few problems. First, the program from which it's from is not mentioned. Second, screenshots should only be used when they're necessary (i.e., games, movies, etc.). Third, a free image already exists, so a fair use image is not necessary. Please see Wikipedia:Fair Use for more info. However, I will be changing the image back. SKS2K6 06:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry but only free image can be used to identify the artist, so the image in the infobox will stay that way. If the image is used for some other purpose, it should be okay. mirageinred 20:36, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

At this moment, there are only 3 official sites (Korean, Japanese & Chinese) for TVXQ. I say 'official' in the sense that they were created by the record companies, SM and AVEX.

All other sites are not the official artiste sites... hence, I have removed the Malaysian club website's url. Despite apparent endorsement by SM & Warner Music, I have noticed that their contents don't really follow those of the official artiste sites. I would conclude the Malaysian site to be a fan site, and not the artistes' site, as can be noted in the heavy endorsement of 'joining the club' and the many discussion of 'club activities'.

While it is inappropriate to denote the Malaysian site as an 'official' website, perhaps we can have a special section for links to 'fan sites' or 'official fan clubs'. Sierraskyeshoei 06:15, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

The reason why there is a notice above the external links section is that people just tend to link-spam, putting whatever they want there. Also, WP:EL notes the criteria for link inclusion. Only substantially informational fan sites should be inserted. I have no idea what the Malaysian site looks like, so if someone can go and see if it is good enough... SKS2K6 06:53, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I've seen it and it's a very nice 'fan club site' and I think it is not appropriate to be included as an 'official site', which usually refers to the artistes' site that is maintained by the record company. It should be noted as an 'official fan club site', if it is indeed an official fan club site. Btw, the link is noted on the wiki page as Malayalam, which is wrong anyway... Translation of the Band Name

I'm pretty sure TVXQ isn't translated "God raises (the TVXQ) in the East." the "神" in tong vfang xien qi (or however sm wants it spelled) sounds similar to another character for raise, but it's written differently. even though "起" can be rise or raise, it really depends on the context. I just wanted to clarify this. The recent edit by 68.38.212.180 was by me, and it happened when I had trouble logging in and editing Wikipedia articles for some reason. When I edited the article I was logged in, but by the time it was saved, the history section strangely shows the edit as by my anon IP. The reason why I edit the article was to remove articles that have been linked too many times (as in more than once) and to remove some parts that resemble an advertisement. ORICON Sales Numbers Mis-quoted

I mentioned this in the discogprahy section but I will say it here also. The sales numbers presented on the Oricon website are SALE POINTS. Not the actual copies sold. To count the points out to be real (estimate) sales numbers, the album-points on the Oricon site have to be times by 1.70 and the singles-points times 1.75. "This is because not every record shop faxes their daily sales to Oricon, so the 0.7/0.75 “extra” there is to cover up for those shops." -- from http://aleyna333.wordpress.com. This will also clear some people's confusion on the differences they see on their sales rank on other shows in Japan, before Oricon releases its weekly rank. Darkmedival 16:36, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Guinness World Record

I realize that the unpublished record has somewhat been confirmed by a Guinness source - people tested the cellphone service "Textperts" advertised on the Guinness website as being able to provide all record questions for UK residents. Its now reported by UK residents as a legit record. The service also provided that there are 800,000 members in TVXQ's fanclub.

But I am wording it as "speculation" since no other source can be cited in wiki, and if the record is actually broken, it will be released for the 2009 edition. Darkmedival (talk) 07:25, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Members

I've deleted all the information about the members as I don't think it's necessary to have all those informations about them. Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC doesn't even have THAT much information about the members on their page and whatnot and they were internationally more known. I shaped their members' profile after Shinhwa's as I think it's much more neater and doesn't take up 1/4 of the page.206.40.103.28 (talk) 00:02, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

I dunno... Backstreet Boys, N*SYNC, and Shinhwa all have individual pages for their members, which is why I think it's all right for the articles to not have a "member profile" section. TVXQ, however, does not have separate articles for each of the members. I'd leave the page as is until we get more opinions on the matter rairakku (talk) 06:18, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

I wonder, why is it that Xiah Junsu's birthday is stated as January 1st? It's really December 15th, 1986. He was just registered late hence the January 1st thing. I realize this is one of those things that most fans "know," but b/c multiple official sources list Junus' birthday as 1987 Jan 01, we absolutely need a source to say otherwise. So far no one's been able to come up with one. Find where Junsu says it in an interview or something (with citation info for either the print or tv source, not a link to something that's been copied and recopied 500 times in a fan forum with no publication or airdate info). This type of issue comes up a lot in popular culture articles, especially ones for non-English-subjects, unfortunately -- the whole "everyone knows it and it's probably true" verus "but no one can actually verify it" situation.  :) --hamu♥hamu (talk) 17:34, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Due to your earlier comment, we've been discussing this topic below, under "Junsu's birthday revisited." I have a pretty scary amount of videos on my comp, too, (we fans can get obsessive, can't we!) that I hope to dig through when time allows. We're trying to figure out how to present the info "correctly." Youtube videos violate copyright and are illegal, so we can't link to them as sources, but we can attribute the actual programs as sources if we have things like airdate, network, show title. Take a look below! :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 22:11, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Title of Article.

This band is originally Korean, and its original name is 동방신기, which is romanized as Dong Bang Shin Gi. It does not follow the Chinese romanization, because the name is in Korean, not Chinese. Why would you take a name of Korea's band and Romanize it as a Chinese one? This is like taking The Beatles, and calling it Les Beatles, just cause it is popular in France too.

東方神起 is Korean. It is using the Old Characters, aka, Hanja (Hanzi, Kanji). We should pronounce it and romanize it in Korean! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Veritasian (talkcontribs) 16:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Good point. I forgot about that. rairakku (talk) 01:03, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Solo work revisited (again)

A few things:

  • 1) Does Junsu's "White Lie" count as a solo project? There's a note under the Xiah Kim Junsu section (here} stating "Do not add in the song White Lies from their third album; it wasn't a SOLO project since they all sing it"; however, a few users keep putting it back in. Should the section be left as it is now?
  • 2) If "White Lie" does NOT count as a solo project, then should "KISS Shita Mama, Sayonara" count as one? Jaejoong and Yoochun wrote it together, but like with "White Lie", the entire group sings the song. Maybe there should be a special section noting songs that members of the group have written for the group to sing...?
  • 3) Modeling for magazines. Should that count as solo work? I know it was taken out once before, but as in Changmin's section, it's been put back in.
  • 4) Guest appearances in shows. I don't even see how those could be counted as solo work...

Any thoughts? rairakku (talk) 04:44, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

The reason for the solo work section was for significant work outside of the group. For example, I would count Xiah's work with Jang Riyin something notable. I removed the magazine work before, and the shows as well, but people keep readding it, and i'm too lazy to remove them. :P
right. so what about the songs that the members have composed for the albums? should those be taken out? rairakku (talk) 01:06, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
not necessarily, but they don't belong in that section. but as to where it should go.... SKS2K6 (talk) 06:45, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
ehh... so leave it as is for now? at least until we get a chance to mention the songs members have composed someplace else? or actually, could those be mentioned on the album pages/discography? I believe "kiss shita mama, sayonara" has already been noted on the album page, although "white lie" has not been. rairakku (talk) 22:52, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Rumors

Just wanted to remind all editors that rumors are not encyclopedic and thus do not belong on Wikipedia unless they are notable enough to be reported by legitimate, credible news agencies, and that any rumor included on Wikipedia must be fully sourced and must be reported as stated in the source, with no extra bells and whistles added. If KBS reports a rumor that Yunho is a purple alien, please do not put on Wikipedia that Yunho is rumored to be a purple alien with horns, even if you read about the horns part on a fan forum. Reporting rumors requires extreme care and precision. ^_^ --Hamuhamu (talk) 21:29, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

I noticed there are external links in the infobox to individual members' pages on another wiki-type site. The contents of those external pages don't include much that isn't covered on the group Wikipedia page, except for trivia, and the pages list sources such as Soompi and Asianfanatics. Because of the similarity in page formats, at first these links don't seem like external links and I think many people would think they are Wikipedia pages. What do you guys think in terms of the appropriateness of these links (both in general and in respect to their placement in the infobox)? Hamuhamu (talk) 04:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

oh haha, the links have already been removed... but i agree with you. dramawiki, in particular, states that their work is not under the gnu free documentation license, and so can't be used here. rairakku (talk) 21:06, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, someone came along and took care of it! Those particular wiki pages read more like fansites, as well. --hamu♥hamu (talk) 23:48, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Notable awards

Notability or appropriateness of the Asian MUSIC eXtreme Awards 2007, France? This info seems to go through cycles of addition and removal. Sounds fannish by name alone, but what do I know? :) Asian MUSIC eXtreme Awards 2007: tous les résultats et analyses! Opinions? --hamu♥hamu (talk) 23:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

aaah it's in french... oh, well. seems it's a webmagazine - is that a notable source? and the results were, of course, fan-based. rairakku (talk) 00:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, a second opinion that it's not a "real" award, then? I think...it would be analogous to an award from ...Teen People?(American mag...don't know if it still exists, even) If they had no other awards to their name, maybe, but at this point...I mean they're TVXQ. LOL --hamu♥hamu (talk) 00:51, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Junsu's birthday revisited

A recent editor who was kind enough to leave a comment on the talk page (above @ heading Members) instead of just jumping right in and making changes, has brought up the oft-edited issue of Junsu's bithday. If there ever was a print source stating Junsu's actual date of birth being 86 Dec 15 and 87 Jan 01 simply being (probably in the form of Junsu saying it in an interview), it's probably forever lost and the alleged fact is only repeated now through reprinted, unsourced translations of "fact lists" and whatnot on fan forum. But maybe it's worth revisiting? He may have said it in an TV interview "back in the day" -- a lot of those are available for viewing & verifying, though not for actual linking (copyright vio). ((Gotta check on how to cite something like that - anyone know? Would it be like tv news broadcast episode?)) Also, it might be possible to make a statement that Junsu held a birthday celebration on YEAR Dec 15 and OTHERYEAR Dec 15, again with citations from dated TV shows, dated DVD contents, etc. As long as no one says "so Dec 15 is probably his real birthday" or "this confirms why fans have always said Dec 15 is his real birthday" or such, then it wouldn't be original research...would it? Please weigh in! Maybe we can get some resolution to this oft-changed-and-then-reverted factoid.  :) Anyone?--hamu♥hamu (talk) 17:52, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

i don't know if this can be counted as an actual source, but several youtube videos, such as [4] and [5], supposedly show junsu celebrating his birthday on the 15th of december. unfortunately, the dates have been added by the users, they may not be right. in addition, there are fancams of the concert in bangkok last year that show the members celebrating junsu's birthday and the concerts were held on the 15th and 16th of december. for a more official source, the bangkok off shoot movie (or whatever you call it) from the "T" album dvd is here. rairakku (talk) 19:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Those are some of the exact sources I was thinking of. :) I don't think the fact that fans are the ones that put the dates on the video clips is a problem; they're very widespread, uploaded by multiple users, and the probability of contention is probably low. Fancams, probably not useable, but maybe local news articles from circa the concert date would have a quickie mention (doubtful though). --hamu♥hamu (talk) 19:56, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
then... the "T" album dvd? the bangkok movie shows the guys celebrating junsu's birthday, and we could probably find a source for the concert being on the 15th of december. or would that qualify as original research? rairakku (talk) 22:52, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
If we just say that he's been publicly shown celebrating on that date, with references, we should be safe. If you know other editors that have experience with this kind of situation or that might have an opinion, let's get them over here to see what they say. Coz I really have no idea, LOL! (Ideally we'd find an interview, citable, where he actually says it...but that may be a pipe dream.) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 01:46, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
should we ask SKS2K6? he seems to have a lot of experience with kpop articles... maybe he's seen something with this before? the only other article that has a similar... um... problem... is the Gackt one, in which his birthday is completely unknown - he says it's july 4th, 1540, but there's fan speculation that his birthdate was july 4th, 1973 because he shot a video with his tombstone showing the dates. the people writing the article handled the situation by omitting the year in the info box, but stating what the tombstone said in the introduction of the article (and in a reference). so... i dunno. more input? rairakku (talk) 02:18, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Hahaha, I saw my name.... Anyway, source it. Go with whatever most sources tell you. There's a similar date on Mariah Carey, as a majority of sources say she was born in 1970, but some other (major) sources, including the US government music registration office (I forget the exact name), list it as 1969. But it's 1970 for all intents and purposes because she always said it was 1970 and has yet to say anything about it being 1969. As such, unless Xiah Junsu says that his real birthday is [such and such], go with what the sources say. SKS2K6 (talk) 02:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh, Gackt. He never changes, does he? (Well, definitely hasn't changed much if he's 500 years old.) I think what's been done on his article works well, since there is a specific reason his birthday is speculated as being in 1973, and that speculation has a source. With Junsu, I can see us saying "Junsu was born Jan 1 87 but publicly celebrated his birthday on Dec 15 at blahblah event in 2007 and at blah blah event in 2005" or whatever, something like that. I support phrasing it like that versus saying it's "widely believed to be Dec 15 86 b/c his parents blah blah blah", because there's nothing to even attribute the rumor or belief to, the way there is with Gackt. BTW, if you didn't see the message on my talk page, please go check. Anyone else who edits these articles regularly, feel free to look too. --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 02:04, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Positions revisited

  • I propose removing the "positions" listed in the members' profiles. At present, I think it's turned into original research. There's something, in Korean, on their official site that might be "position," but I can't read it. Even if it is, we need someone to reliably translate those words from the website, which might be difficult, even for a native speaker unless that person has a firm grasp of specialized musical terminology in both languages. Until that time, people are just changing the positions based on their interpretations, which may very well be correct but are still original research. I doubt a reliable third party source can be found (and by reliable I mean has something to actually do with musical structure, not a quickie profile put together for a show on KMTV, LOL). Also, is this info even usually present in pop group articles? I know they're called an "accappella" group but I don't even see this info in the (admittedly short) articles for a couple of accappella groups I looked up off the top of my head (Gospellers, Shai). What does everyone think? --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 20:03, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
  • true... even junsu's "baritenor" classification is based on a game on youtube. feel free to remove it. i doubt any of the fans would really care -that- much... most of them probably don't know specifically what each position means, anyway. rairakku (talk) 22:57, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
  • yeah..... I remember debating earlier about these, because someone said that they should be put in because technically TVXQ is an "acapella" group, but at this point, it seems pointless. SKS2K6 (talk) 23:59, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'll go ahead and remove them, and we'll see what happens. To anyone reading, if you want to add the positions back in, please drop a note on this talk page and we'll all talk it out so it can be the best possible! :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 01:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh and I think the Youtube link needs to be killed as a copyright violation. The show can be referenced by title, network, date, etc using one of the TV show citation templates. I'm pretty sure I have that info, as I undoubtedly have the show on my hard drive...digging it out is another issue altogether, LOL. If I've misunderstood WP's policy on linking to copyright-violating media, please let me know b/c I've not really dealt with it before. :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 01:41, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Okay, deleted. They do sing harmonies, so the info does have some relevance, but only if it's actually established as per above. Even then, the article body is probably better, as "position" was being used to describe things that don't relate to one another, like "baritone" and "leader" for Yunho.  :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 08:55, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

THAT WAS FAST LOL. Someone already added them back in. I'm going to put one of those little invisible note things on and hope it helps. (oops that was me - better sign: --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 06:32, 22 June 2008 (UTC))

"Vacation" poster

I think the Vacation poster pic used in the article violates the non-free image requirements because 1) the original image is much too high quality and 2) I'm not sure it's being used in accordance with the licensing requirements for posters (there to provide critical commentary on the movie the poster advertises or on the poster itself; not solely for decoration). If others agree that it does indeed fail #1 but not #2, a quick resize & reupload of the image will take care of the problem. Feedback? --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 06:43, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

FREE images of TVXQ/Cassiopeia

There are some really great free images (especially thanks to Ninjacatherine who provided them to use without any watermarks!) available in the wikicommons site. Some of them are unseen before! If anyone needs to use them for this or any other article in the appropriate places, please go ahead. Wikicommons is a site by Wikipedia, especially for the storage of free images. You can use the same image title on wiki and it will work.

I just removed the entire comment I wrote, LOL. I looked into the folders on my computer, and I can verify the Paris pictures were taken by a fan, despite their insanely high quality. I have copies of them that were uploaded to the net the same day they were taken, long before the photobooks, calendars, etc were released. Lucky ninja!--hamu♥hamu (TALK) 02:01, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah lol, I actually messaged her personally on LJ when I saw her awesome pictures posted there (don't they look super professional?!) and requested to her if we could please use them on the wiki page ... because at the time we had an outdated and crappy one. She was so nice to agree~! Thanks to her, we have the picture we do on our front page :)Darkmedival (talk) 08:32, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Junsu's birthday, for the last time

A friend of mine who probably has no idea this is me (LOL) saw our comments about Junsu's birthday. Fan-made subtitles on a TV show on Youtube (which sadly is also on my hard drive, with subtitles, not that I'd have ever found it without a push) explains the Junsu birthday thing, and as soon as the subtitles are verified as correct, voila. We can finally put this thing to rest. Thanks to anyone reading who helped out, and especially thanks to Tiffo. <3 --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 05:43, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Woo hoo! It's on the page, BUT can someone help me out with the referencing part? I made the reflink, so the source shows in the reference section (#36). I'm trying to also make the reference go to the notes section, where the situation is explained. The note is there but it doesn't connect up with anything...can any guru help out here? --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 00:33, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay I fixed it, more or less. Woot. --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 05:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for adding that bit, and for figuring out how to source it. Should we have a notes section, I wonder?Darkmedival (talk) 08:32, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
If you know how, then sure. I tried but couldn't figure out how to make it all link together. Amuse yourself with my botched attempts by viewing the page history. Right now I have explanatory info in the references section with the actual reference info. --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 08:47, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Regarding: Do the members deserve an individual page?

I read that it was suggested each member have its own page. I think rather than having one page per member, there could be a new page entitled 'TVXQ members' to put the information there? If not, the members section needs a cleanup. Rather than having a members section and then members profiles, the two could be merged into an all-inclusive members section so it's easier to follow. Yaminator (talk) 16:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

I think I agree that the members table, which mainly serves to make the page longer and most of which is already covered in praise, could be fully merged with the prose. It might help prevent editors constantly wanting to add new lines and new factoids to the table, as well. I still think we fall short of notability for member articles, either together or as a group. Said article(s) would just be biographical info, which isn't enough to establish notability. Most of the info in that section remains unsourced, anyway, but it's unlikely one will ever be obtained so I think most people just "let it go." However to start a new article with mostly unsourced biographical info would be disaster. We'd need to take a really careful look at other articles in Wikiproject Musicians, outside of the kpoppers. :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 17:51, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
For sure! I was offering options, but with what you've mentioned, I think it might be best to have one, concise, well-organized and *hopefully* well-established and sourced members section before thought can be put into a separate article? Glad to see a response so soon, as well! Yaminator (talk) 19:33, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good! You're more than welcome to give it a go. Feel free to sandbox it and share the link here, if you like. I do that a lot of times when doing rearranging. :) As I said, I think some of the "old" history is just going to be unsourceable given the amount of time that's passed. I have no idea how to get references for, say, the stuff about the contests they entered & won during pre-group days. Maybe it's in some TV shows, which can be used if they can be found. (See the whole Junsu birthday issue above, which was a success after a long while.) There is snapshot footage of trainee!Junsu with Kangta, for instance. I have massive amounts of stuff on my hard drive, but I'd need a clone to comb through it all. Just to let you know, some of us who frequently keep an eye on this article have talked about having a coordinated "clean up the SM Entertainment articles" effort later this summer, so keep an eye out for that, if you're interested. :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 21:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I have seen Youtube videos on SM audtions and how they entered. As for properly sourcing members' profiles, there are MANY, and I mean MANY, published articles about them almost every month! Especially in Japan (and now in other countries such as Malaysia, China), where they are trying to garner as much promotions as they can, they have been doing articles monthly. If you need help with sourcing, I can help you there :) Just let me know when you have started the page and we can work on it together. Darkmedival (talk) 02:55, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Recent removal - anything salvageable?

I disagree with an "International achievements" section. But some of this might be able to be worked into other parts of the article. Opinions?

International Achievements

  • They became the first Korean group to get two awards in Thailand Music Awards, one for Best Video thanks to the success "Rising Sun" and another for Best Asian Artist.
I think this can be worked into the article if properly sourced. It's potentially notable. (These were the Channel V Awards in Thailand in 2006, I think?)
  • They are recognized as one of the few korean groups to convene held 40000 people to a concert and have been quickly placed in a safe place within the music in Japan.
First part might be usable it's sourced that they had 40,000 at a concert (with date & location, etc) and that they are one of the few KR groups to do it. 2nd part, no way, unless sourced by multiple reliable Japanese music industry experts.
  • the seventh simple in Japanese "Sky", arrived at number three on the lists Oricon, achievement that very few non-Japanese artists reach. Then, with the singles "Begin" and "Fighting Spirit of the East" came to number one in Japan and Malaysia.
"Sky" part, not notable and outdone by later, notable chart success of PL & BY (already in article, sourced). Malaysia part might be notable if they are the first to achieve this. Source it.
  • In the radio program "988" in Malaysia, the group reached 4.2 million listeners.
If this number is notable for some reason and can be sourced, maybe.
  • tvxq has unofficial followers in Europe (mainly France and Spain) and americas (Peru, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Honduras and the United States mainly), where fans meet the same manner as in Asia and expect the official arrival of the grouping to their continents.
Um, no.

--hamu♥hamu (TALK) 05:12, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Integrate them into different sections, but they shouldn't be isolated into one section named "achievements" etc. мirаgeinred سَراب ٭ (talk) 02:16, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Right. :) Now if notability can be determined and sources found, it can happen. Anyone, anyone? Bueller? (Meanwhile it can stay here for later use.) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 02:26, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Some of it is already mentioned in the article. About the Thailand music awards, and I think the radio program bit too, unless it was removed. I do wish we could have an acomplishments section...it would summarize things nicely rather than reading paragraphs of text.Darkmedival (talk) 02:58, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Teamwork

TVXQ had a perfect teamwork. That's made them be a great boyband.Their relationship with another member touch our heart. It's very difficult now we can find relationship with basic family like that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.164.130.9 (talk) 08:26, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

why is there 2 micky and hero profiles in the "member profile" part?

i changed it but someone keeps changing it back... why are 2 of it neccessary? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yukihana24 (talkcontribs) 08:44, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I see what happened and it's partially my fault. Earlier today, two different editors messed with the profile boxes (one of which included changing the member order), and when I undid their changes, apparently I duplicated the tables. Don't know how, but it apparently happened and I didn't notice. When you removed the excess information, the vandalism watchers picked it up as someone removing information from an article without leaving an edit summary and flagged it as vandalism without bothering to actually look at the article to see if it was vandalism. Then it just snowballed until you had three vandalism warnings for something that wasn't vandalism at all. I contacted each of the editors about the situation and posted on your talk page, as well, so you should have all the warnings removed. I appreciate you trying to fix my mistake, and I'm very sorry you got crapped on for it. I'd recommend always typing something in the edit summary to briefly explain the changes you're making and why. In this case "removing duplicate table info" or something like that would have been fine. It helps ward off the vandalism monitors, who admittedly should probably pay a little more attention to what they're doing. Then again, I should have too. So again, I'm very sorry this had to happen and please don't let it stop you from making worthwhile edits in the future. --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 09:31, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Jaejoong

Who took the situation with Jaejoong's dad and his family? Shouldn't that be relevant to the article explaining why he has 2 names?

~Garfield Turtle Anime~ (talk) 17:43, 8 March 2009 (UTC) Hajiru

I removed it and put it into his own article, which can be found here. It is not relevant to the article because it's a personal matter not a group matter. The same is going to happen to Yunho's when I finish creating his page. ~Moon~日の出 ~Sunrise~ 17:57, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Oh ok. Thanks for the info! ^^

~Garfield Turtle Anime~ (talk) 20:08, 8 March 2009 (UTC) Hajiru

Separate pages??

Is it really needed? I went through them and there's basically NOTHING on there except for a few "he was feature in this and this" or "composed that and that." I don't think that's enough for 'separate' pages, unless they actually branch out and release something under their own (such an album, not being feature in someone else's song), away from their group because everything on there traces back to this page anyway. I'm going to wait for a few days and see if the pages improve with more actual solo activities, but if I don't see anything, I'm going to put it up for deletion. Cherrieslovable (talk) 01:10, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

There are other pages that have less then what the members pages have. Separate pages are needed because the members are preventing the article from going any further. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 01:26, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Guiness Book of World Records

TVXQ made it into the Guiness Book of World Records twice. In 2008, they had the largest fan club in the world, and in 2009, they were recently recognized as the Most Photographed Celebrities in the World (http://www.tvxqsoul.com/wordpress/tvxq-in-guinness-world-record-for-the-2nd-time/). Perhaps we should keep this information to relevance and include it as soon as the books are printed. I was going to include it but I needed a hard copy of the source and I had no idea where to place it. 71.146.79.102 (talk) 07:06, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

I really don't see them getting into the Guinness for largest fan club and most photographed is important to the article. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 02:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I think it's relevant because it's some sort of landmark/important recognition. It's not something you'd expect from everyday. 128.120.166.201 (talk) 07:35, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Rising Sun

This might be more appropriate for the discography section, but TVXQ's "Rising Sun" will be in the movie Fast and Furious 4 although it's not going to be on the official soundtrack (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809989992/cast). This would be like, their first time being exposed in the US. 128.120.166.201 (talk) 04:27, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

DBSK

Why is the title of this article TVXQ, when this is a Korean band? Please enlighten me someone. Good friend100 (talk) 01:50, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't matter if nationality they are. It matter by the name they are known by and they are known as TVXQ. See their official site and English-language sources on the page. Now I sure that if their own site referrers to them as TVXQ, then their name is TVXQ. Plus if you listen to their songs you hear they say TVXQ in some of them, Kiss the Baby Sky is an example. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 02:10, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Ok thats fine, the name on Wikipedia means nothing anyways to fans. Good friend100 (talk) 14:45, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Strictly speaking they are known as TVXQ internationally. It is less trouble if you think the origin of the name as coming from traditional Chinese characters prounounced in Korean. Therefore names like Tohoshinki and DBSK are.. rather localised versions. kata1207
I've heard them referred to as DBSK more often than TVXQ, but I make no pretenses of expertise here. The Jade Knight (talk) 04:26, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
If you're going to listen to the song "Hot Mail" from the 2004 SMTown Summer Vacation Album, you will hear Micky Yoochun say TVXQ instead of DBSK. The tattoo that Jaejoong and Micky have is TVfXQ because even SM themselves acknowledges that TVXQ is the official and not DBSK. And in Japan, they release an album called "TVXQ non-stop mix vol.1" using TVXQ as their official name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.235.241.102 (talk) 21:04, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually, TVXQ is used more often because it, as stated in the article, the acronym for the PinYin of 東方神起 - Tong Vfang Xien Qi, and is their official international name. Yes, they usually refer to themselves as DongBangShinKi on Korean media, but that's because they're in Korea and that's how they're called. In Japan, they introduce themselves as Tohoshinki because they're in Japan and that's how they're called. TVXQ is easier for non-east Asian people to remember, as well as Chinese is a more accepted medium of communication around the world compared to Korean and Japanese. [TL;DR. Please read kata1207's explanation instead. haha :)] 203.76.209.109 (talk) 14:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
TVXQ doesn't really sound easier to remember than DBSK... They're both acronyms and if you don't know it, then you don't know it, so that's pretty much irrelevant here. You'll hear a lot of DBSK because their nation of origin is Korea, where they performed for a long time before they went international.66.25.37.224 (talk) 22:13, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Erm, their Korean name is 동방신기... where does "DBSK" come from? I think the acronym for the Korean name would be EQTR. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.49.7.208 (talk) 06:27, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Members' individual pics? (and other stuff...)

Now that different pages are being made for each member, would you guys like some pics of each member? Do you want one from a site or do you want me to add one of my own or what? How will it work?

Oh and how come Changmin doesn't have his own page yet? Just curious. ^^

~Garfield Turtle Anime~ (talk) 02:00, 30 March 2009 (UTC) Hajiru

If you have your own image then upload them. Max doesn't have his own page because there isn't enough information on him that warrants his own page. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 02:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Oh my god.. I can supply heaps of information and I'm pretty sure I can source them from korean websites!! It's simply so not fair when all the members have separate pages but Max... I actually clicked 'discussion' to complain about this.. kata1207
Your information cannot come from fansites. They have to come from news sites, like, Newsen, joins or Yahoo! Korea.
I never visit fansites anyway as I find them too.. intense :D.. haha. I just wander around Youtube and Wikipedia.. It shouldn't be so hard digging up random articles from the Internet but I don't have time now - I'll probably start this over holidays. What is more problematic is the fact that I've never created a Wikipedia article - I rather tend to edit stuff kata1207

hajiru - you actually have your own pictures of the guys?!!??? i've been asking around, but either a - i can't use people's pictures without removing the watermarks, or b - i've gotten no response T_T it's best to use pictures that you took, or pictures from other fans (with their permission, of course). i was thinking of asking people who were at hollywood bowl last year since the fans who were there speak english and are fairly easy to find (soompi :D) but i haven't found clear pics, yet. - rairakku(talk to me) 05:02, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Response to Max question that was answered: Oh ok.

Response to member pics answer: I don't have my own pics....yet...but if you want I can ask some fans if they have some pics I can use with their permission on the articles. Just let me know how to add it to the articles when I do so I can add them with no trouble. Thanks! :D

~Garfield Turtle Anime~ (talk) 01:44, 6 April 2009 (UTC) Hajiru

Just upload the images with the right copyright tags and there will be no problems. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 02:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
The uploading page is here, and there's a long list of instructions here. - rairakku 128.84.26.94 (talk) 14:41, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I was actually wondering the same thing about Max not having his own page. I wish I could provide info for him but most of the stuff I know is from soompi since I am a fan from America. I know you guys can't use it but it doesn't seem fair that he doesn't have his own page. I'll try to look for some valid info.

Thanks guys! I'll try to find some decent pics for the members. As for Max, I'll try to see if anyone has any valid info on him so we can get him his own page.

TVXQ- Why is there not a Max Changmin page??

Will someone please tell me why there is not a max changmin page? every time someone tries to make one.. it becomes deleted. I would like to know... WHY?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweet-hanna28 (talkcontribs) 00:34, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

The pages aren't "deleted" they are redirected back to TVXQ because the Max's does not pass WP:PEOPLE or WP:MUSIC. You can't create an article simply because the others have an article and he doesn't. That's not how Wikipedia works. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 00:39, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok so could you please make one? Im new to wikipedia so i suck at making them.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweet-hanna28 (talkcontribs) 00:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

The only information available about him is trivia and per Wikipedia's guidelines trivia cannot be used in an article. Max will just have to do without until more information about him because available. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 00:48, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

So why cant you just say the trivia in sentences? example: Max Changmin was born on..... in Seoul, South Korea. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweet-hanna28 (talkcontribs) 00:51, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

That won't help the article pass. He has to have done something outside of the group or like Micky has contributed to the group. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 01:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
So you mean that Max haven't done anything contribute to TVXQ? How funny! OK ,forgetting everything he had done, at least, Max had published a solo album <wild soul> in Japan,in Feb.2008. Could it pass the ? So many people wanna know his own information, not just through the group. Many thanks.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.143.117.30 (talk) 03:06, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
First the title is "Two Hearts/Wild Soul". Second it's not an album its a single, and it's a group single not his own. And no that won't help the article pass. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 11:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Image

Following the example of S.H.E I want to create an "image section" for TVXQ but I can't find any sources about their image. So I'm asking if you guys can if sources, create the "image section" and add them to the article so we can take further steps to make it a WP:FA. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 17:26, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

The use of Concert in Bangkok Image

I find the picture inserted in 2008 section of rise to fame when they are in bangkok a little derogatory and a works of a DBSK anti-fan who's intent is to hurt their image. I mean, what is the purpose of using such a picture? It does not actually relate to the content in the paragraph, nor does it actually show them properly, nor does it display their popularity (albeit the statement that they are in bangkok -- big whoop -- we only see a black background). All I can see it as is a prank -- to make them look uncoordinated and untalented.Darkmedival (talk) 09:13, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

TVXQ record?????

Hey, but anyone notice that actually PURPLE LINE is not the first single DBSK top the oricon chart. They topped the chart for the first time with "SUMMER~Summer Dream/Song for you/Love in the Ice~", which means they broke the record for 3 top singles with "Beautiful you" already and means that "Share the world/We are" is their 7th single to top the chart, not the 6th one. Can I actually fix it on the site?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dickyku (talkcontribs) 03:18, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

"Purple Line" is the first single to top the Oricon. "Summer: Summer Dream/Song for You/Love In the Ice" was their first single to reach number-one on the daily chart not the weekly chart. And the weekly chart is the one that matters, not the daily. 03:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Lawsuit against SM

I did a quick summary of the two Korea Times articles ([6] and [7]), but there's still a lot to be added. There's another article here => [8] on the lawsuit. Not sure if SM's released a statement yet. We'll see. - rairakku(talk to me) 19:28, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Also, I was thinking that the lawsuit stuff should be put on the individual members' pages since they're not filing it as a group... but since it affects the group as a whole, maybe it should stay here (or does it? rumors of disbanding have been squashed). idk opinions...? D: - rairakku(talk to me) 19:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

The lawsuit has nothing to do with TVXQ, only three of the members and nowhere in what was added does it show an affect on the group as a whole, so it does not belong in the article. Maybe in the concerning members' pages, but not here. MS (Talk|Contributions) 00:43, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

name? shouldn't it be DBSK instead of TVXQ?

They are a Korean band and I think more widely known by their Korean name. So why is the article entitled using the Chinese version of their name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.187.216.110 (talk) 00:28, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

TVXQ is the name they are known by in English, so that is the name we use. MS (Talk|Contributions) 00:30, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Too bad, though, that the Pinyin for the characters in their name is actually Dōng Fāng Shén Qǐ (Mandarin reading), at least according to what sources I can find. That being the case, they probably should have been DFSQ, but I guess it's a little late for that. But, if you put "Dōng Fāng Shén Qǐ" into Google (ignoring the tone diacritics), it pulls up pictures of the group. Hm. Besides, what's in a name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SWalkerTTU (talkcontribs) 07:02, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
I'd support renaming the article to DBSK; I've seen them under both names, though more under DBSK. The Jade Knight (talk) 09:29, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't matter what you've seen them called; officially (official site is http://tvxq.smtown.com), they are TVXQ. How many times in their songs do they say, "We're TVXQ"? They don't call themselves DBSK. oncamera(t) 17:02, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Reassessment

The article has become very messy lately, and I doubt it meets GA standard anymore. I am not one of the major contributer to this article, so I feel that it is not in my place to put it up for reassessment nor do I want to until I get some feedback from the editors who do contributes to this. What do you guys think? SandylovesMicky (talk) 18:19, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

It does not matter if you are a major contributor to the article or not. If you feel the article no longer meets the GA standard then go ahead a request a reassessment. As the one who worked on the article and made it GA material I have no objections about it. MS (Talk|Contributions) 18:32, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

GA Reassessment

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:TVXQ/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

After reviewing this article, I have come to the conclusion that this article needs some work to meet current criteria, outlined below:

  • The "2008–present: Commercial success" section needs to be tidied up and reword. There are too many little paragraphs in that section that can be combined. Additionally, the paragraphs that starts with The group's live DVD is not sourced. I doubt the source at the end of the paragraph, I'm assuming as I am not Japanese, does not source the entire paragraph.
The reference at the end of the paragraph does source the entire thing. You could use Google translate to see that.
  • The "Musical style" has an extended tag on it. Upon checking, the tag has been there since April 2009 (almost a year now) and if it's still there, then obviously the section is not complete and must be address. The "Lyrics and composition" also needs to be clean up. It gets confusing to read "Nae Gyeote Sumsiur Su Ittdamyeon (White Lie)" (네 곁에 숨쉴 수 있다면). If the Japanese songs can be written as "Kiss Shita Mama, Sayonara" (Kissしたまま、さよなら, lit. As We Kiss, Goodbye), I'm sure something can be done with the Korean songs. Title of songs should be in quotation marks as well.
I had put that tag there in hopes of some other editor could add more with sources. I did search for more sources so it could be expanded, however, none could be found. As for the songs, since there is no template for Korean terms, there is no way to make it look like the Japanese song titles. The most I can think of doing is this "Nae Gyeote Sumsiur Su Ittdamyeon (White Lie)" (네 곁에 숨쉴 수 있다면 (White Lie); If I Can Only Breathe Next To You).
  • The lead does not adequately cover the entire contents of the article (WP:LEAD)

I'm going to wait for feedback first to see what other editors say of this. If seven days have gone by and there are no feedback, I'm delisting it.SandylovesMicky (talk) 21:03, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Sorry you had to wait for feedback. I would have replied earlier but I thought I'd give the other editors a chance to improve the article since they view my editing of the article ownership. But since none of them replied I'll do it. MS (Talk|Contributions) 23:05, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
I appreciate that you were trying to change or tweak the article, MS. Kudos to you. However, as it has been 7 days and some of the things still remain (thank you for explaining some of the things to me, by the way. MUCH appreciated), what do you think? I still don't think it meets GA standards anymore, but we should come to a consensus first. SandylovesMicky (talk) 21:43, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I was waiting for you to reply before I started to edit the article to see if you agreed with some of what I wrote. However, if you want to de-list it then go ahead. I'll just work on the problems and redo the GA process again. MS (Talk|Contributions) 22:39, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I was waiting for more editors to voice their opinions, but I suppose since no one else wants to throw their two cents in, I'm de-listing it.SandylovesMicky (talk) 04:12, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

JYJ section?

I think JYJ should get it's own article or section on this page; their concert DVD "became the second fastest selling DVD in Japan this year shifting 140,000 copies in its first week of release" and they are going on a worldwide tour with an English album produced by Kanye West and Rodney Jerkins. Not to mention their origins of how they came to be from the slave contract dispute by SM and their recent dispute with AVEX now. Some sources: http://www.tinsel-pr.com/JYJ/press.html http://www.tinsel-pr.com/JYJ/ http://www.tinsel-pr.com/JYJ/schedule.html oncamera(t) 00:12, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

I'd say make an article and add a section linking to said article. The only problem is the title of the article. While both of their sits use "JYJ" in the url, their Japanese site and their releases are under Junsu / Jejung / Yunchun. 追人YumeChaser 00:17, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
I'd say name the article Junsu / Jejung / Yunchun and then mention it's commonly abbreviated to JYJ using their initials. Can we use / in an article's title though? oncamera(t) 00:29, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
We can use the dash mark. There is, to my knowledge, no guideline against it expect joining them together (WP:SLASH). However, after a performing a Google search would say use JYJ per WP:COMMONNAME. And in the article it can be stated that they release material in Japan under the name Junsu / Jejung / Yunchun. What do you think? 追人YumeChaser 00:42, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, after reading a few WP:MOS articles dealing with article names, WP:COMMONNAME would probably best apply to the new article title. I agree, JYJ should work. oncamera(t) 00:48, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Either on of us can create the article. Only thing now is find source to make the article stand. Which shouldn't be hard. 追人YumeChaser 00:52, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, you could start the article since I figure you're more fitted to start out a Musician's article. I can help find sources and such too. oncamera(t) 01:03, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll start working on the article. Also please do not revert anymore. I would hate to see you get blocked over this. 追人YumeChaser 01:04, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

DBSK duo

I think it's time to put Jaejoong, Yunho, and Changmin under past members...SM Entertainment has announced the group's return as a duo. source: http://news.nate.com/view/20101123n05064 translation: http://www.dbsknights.net/2010/11/tvxq-to-comeback-in-2011.html Is it time to finally relay that in the article? 21nolja (talk) 17:38, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Uh, Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun were the ones who have gone off to create JYJ because of a contract dispute that hasn't been resolved with SM Entertainment. So how could they, JYJ, continue as TVXQ if they couldn't come to an agreement with SM? Where's an official statement from the members of JYJ announcing their departure from TVXQ? oncamera(t) 02:09, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
well, I'm just saying. The source identifies the group coming back as a duo, and wouldn't that signify that the other three members have left and not ocnsidered part of the group anymore? I mean, I think the source is saying that the group is pretty much a duo now. 21nolja 09:30, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Why do people believe that JYJ is part of TVXQ yet? ít's been stated by both Avex and SM entertainment that TVXQ will continue with the CURRENT MEMBERS Changmin and Yunho. "Regarding Tohoshiki they will be resuming its activities with current members Yonho and Changmin”. Avex SM Entertaiment: http://www.kpoplive.com/2010/11/24/dbsk-to-make-their-comeback-as-a-duo/ Fan's feelings shoudn't affect facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.151.52.202 (talk) 18:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I can see that for the time being, the current members are Yunho and Changmin but I don't see why Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu aren't even mentioned on the under the artist information as at least "Past Members" or something along the lines of "hiatus" or whatnot! Every single wiki band pages here have "Past Members" listed. To people new to the TVXQ name, they wouldn't even know that the trio are part of TVXQ until they actually read the article. {talk) 23:06, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

I placed the JYJ trio under past members. They won their court case and their contracts with SM Entertainment were terminated. The trio has moved on as JYJ and the other two have remained as TVXQ without them. There was a note that said that the trio was part of TVXQ in the eyes of the law but their contracts were terminated and the law can't say who is part of what band. DragonFury (talk) 21:23, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

I reverted. That court case only legally guarantees JYJ’s independent activities (that the contract with SME is not exclusive) but did NOT settle the main lawsuit that originally started the dispute between the company and members. JYJ/SME are still battling over who compensates who, whether their (3 members of JYJ & SME) contract is valid, and whether JYJ will have to pay the HUGE fee associated with breaking their contract early with SME. Summary: Contracts not terminated, but also not exclusive. oncamera(t) 00:59, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
JYJ's ongoing legal dispute with SME is not relevant as their dispute doesn't involve TVXQ but rather their individual contracts with SME. If their contracts are declared invalid, they will not be required to pay SME damages or have to pay fines for terminating their contracts. If the contracts are deemed to be valid, JYJ will have to settle with SME for not fulfilling their contracts.
Neither outcome will change the fact that both TVXQ (the duo) and JYJ have separately released multiple CDs and been working as separate entities for some time. If anyone disputes the use of "TVXQ" to refer to the duo, it's for them to take SME and AVEX to court over the legality of it. Jkr2010 (talk) 21:28, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Neutral article

I propose to avoid more conflicts in the future about the members that we add Current members and past members If you want it, is to avoid more conflicts and to avoid the page to be locked again. Plus to not fight more about the picture to use let's use one single picture that contains only the name of TVXQ nothing more so more conflict are avoid in the future. I dont want more fanwars here, stans and fans have to grow up and realize the lawsuit is not over and like it or not court rules over SME. So until the last result Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu are part of TVXQ as them have say so. But even when I think like that we should keep this page the most neutral possible and not allow people to be mislead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laurien anardil (talkcontribs) 06:35, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Disputes on TVXQ's wikipedia page

I understand that there is a disagreement on TVXQ page. Here is my neutral solution:

1) Keep the page protected. There is no doubt that people will come to change the information (like they are doing now) so I suggest this page be protected at all times (or at least semi-protected).

2) With the constant changing of who the members are in the group, I believe there should be a section showing the two current members and a section underneath it showing the three inactive members or former members.

TVXQ was originally comprised of five males. Three of them have issued a lawsuit against their company, but that does not mean they should not be included as members anymore. Despite the three having continued their profession together under the name JYJ, they are nevertheless, at this point, former members of TVXQ. Their contract with their company in regards to this group - TVXQ - still stands due to the lawsuit having not yet been completed (and therefore they are "inactive" or "former" members).

3) As for the main picture to show who the members are, I believe there should be two:

The first one showing the group as five (what they were before, when they had debuted). The second one underneath showing the two members that are currently active under the name TVXQ.

I don't know what happened with vandalized pictures but i have requested deletion of image for the current version pic since Oct. 1st 2011. From the information that is given in the article it states that there's two members U-know Yunho and Max Changmin who are active members. The other hiatus members Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun and Xiah Junsu have not been active members for more than 2 years now. So the current situation that they are in now, with only two members, the image/picture that is present on current version should be updated, in other words, i do not see why its necessary to have an image that shows all 5 when there's only two active. This is not coming from a bias view, you can look through the information and article for yourself to understand why i encourage the image to be fixed and not give old info. Thank you working hard and also trying to handle the changes that are often changed back and forth by users. To discourage this sort of hassles, like i said under the "Request" post, i highly recommend you have a protection policy, until further new changes or notice appear for TVXQs situation. I know you protected the article for major editing. We dont try to change the info but stans( fan who want to hurt others) keep changing the page. This is not about who's right or wrong but about how she and many others are changing the page every second. As many other groups even when the members are not part or promoting with the group they are still part of them: Super Junior, Backstreet boys case, we just ask to keep the name of the 3 others even if it's in old members or not.But this has to stop, fans are tired of watching this article being vandalized.

This is a fight inside fandom there's no need to bring and vandalize the page I know, that's why I ask to let me edit it in a way that is neutral for all the part and if we can keep the members part as I want to edit(current members, old memberes) all is going to be ok. In the next few days many more activities will come and we need to update the information. Please I ask for me to edit the members section and associated acts which were vandalized the same with the picture. Then you can locked if you want. Im trying to be neutral and to keep both sides without war. Please, thank you so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laurien anardil (talkcontribs) 07:04, 23 October 2011‎

I agree with that post. I think if we have 5 members divide in current and past members it shouldn't create any more problems. Justme1982 (talk) 22:43, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Nvm I'll post here. I did not intentionally engage in edit warring to cause hurt to other 'fans', and if it did I apologize. But it is obvious that there are 'fans' who can't accept reality or the situation today. These people insist on placing an inaccurate list of members in this article. When my edits were repeatedly undone I lost my temper and decided to see how far this would go. Now that attention has been brought to this issue maybe it will be settled once and for all.

Every fact shows that the TVXQ of the present is made of two members now. The most accurate description of TVXQ now would include those three former members to be put under 'Past Members', and this is what I had been doing before last memorable Sunday. Regarding the image, I did not remove it initially, but after another user did during that period, I decided to go along.

On the image itself. It is outdated by four years. Which is a long time by the standards of the entertainment industry. There should be a more up-to-date version placed in the article and if it were to be accurate like all other articles should be, any picture taken in 2011 would have two members only. 'Fans' are so obsessed however that they refuse to let this go and any picture uploaded with two members is taken down. This is partly due to there not being one uploaded yet that meets Wiki's copyright usage standards but the point stands. If one can be found and uploaded, these 'fans' are going to do the same as what happened with the members list and keep changing it. Thus the dilemma. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 12:15, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree with a lot of the comments that has been said in most of these posts here. I believe that its best to put "hiatus members" or "former members" for Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun, and Xiah Junsu, because they aren't currently active, actually they haven't been active members for more than 2 years now. It even says so in the articles and footnotes citations. I also believe that the picture should be revised. One, the current picture is outdated, it carries on 5 members, which isn't accurate due to their current situation. From the comments left from other users, it seems that this is a mutual agreement. I also suggest that an admin is appointed or have this page protected, so users do not keep changing the info posted. Homindbsk 1:14, 25 October 2011

It seems like we reached mutual agreement. "hiatus/past members" for Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun, and Xiah Junsu, and "current members" for U-Know Yunho, Max Changmin. Justme1982 (talk) 04:23, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Because the lawsuit is not over I see no reason to take down and change the information of the members.Maybe a section of current members and old members but not eliminated the 3 members. Also I want to point that the court rules over SMe for that we cant change the fact that TXVQ even when now is promoting as 2 is formed by 5 members like or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laurien anardil (talkcontribs) 05:36, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree that there should be a past members section. I do not agree that the other three should be listed under the membership without it. As others have said SM Entertainment announced in November of 2010 that TVXQ would be returning as a duo, and every indication is that TVXQ is now just that, their official Facebook page and official website in Japanese confirm this. Unless the three join in TVXQ's activities it will not be accurate to put them under current members. This topic is already open below. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 08:53, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand why fans are being illogical about this. If the three are not in TVXQ right now, then they should be past members, regardless of their legal status. It's very misleading to have five names when only two are active, the others should rightfully be under the past members section. Illecandra (talk) 12:18, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Disinformation

By law, they are not former members until such a date when the contract has either been terminated or they have left of their own accord, therefore they are not former members as of yet and there is nothing suggesting they will. Wikipedia is here to provide an accurate view and this should be reflected and the page is inaccurate as it stands. Sort it out or I shall take this further as it breaches the law. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.37.203 (talk) 21:27, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

You want to take legal action against Wiki for stating the truth? As you have made yourself representative of the trio, be so good as to write to them advising them to seek legal action against SM Entertainment/Avex and Yunho and Changmin's use of the name TVXQ/DBSK/TOHOSHINKI being composed of said two members only as they have stated in TVXQ's single Superstar, Korean album Keep Your Head Down Repackaged and Japanese album TONE, and while you're at it try taking it farther with these two sites, TVXQ's official facebook www.facebook.com/tvxq (pay close attention to 동방신기(TVXQ!) and how many names are listed there) and TVXQ's official website http://tvxq.smtown.com/ where TVXQ's profile states only two names U-know & Max. Also consider suing www.youtube.com/user/TVXQ TVXQ's official youtube channel since it too along with the other two sites all use images that contain Jung Yunho and Shim Changmin only. As another user pointed out earlier last month, should the other three have issues with SM Entertainment re-branding TVXQ as a duo, it will be up to them to bring an action against the related parties in court seeking redress against such ignominy.

As it stands TVXQ now has two performers only. This is a fact you can't change even if you want to. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 15:55, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

---

No, the aim of this was to decide whether the trio should be left out of the article which is a complete untruth, you are just derailing the whole point and losing your head about it. You and I both know that Wikipedia would not be stating the truth if it were to firstly, put them in the former members category as they are not gone and secondly if they were to be blanked completely. Just because activites are still going as TVXQ, that does not mean that the group is set in stone just like before they left. I have no intention of putting forward a case fronting as JYJ either, my case would be against Wikipedia and no other and that is what I clearly stated in my above argument. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.37.203 (talk) 18:42, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

---

For all intents and purposes they are indeed gone. I said clearly that putting them in the past category would be the most accurate description of these members. You can try to get semantic about this, but nothing would be more misleading than to put a list of five names or picture of five members under current members when the three have not been involved in any current activities for the past two years and all activities and promotions of TVXQ indicate that it is now a two-member group. You make a single reference to an assumption of legality that remains uncited and as we are aware the validity of the threes' contracts remain in dispute. In the meantime, TVXQ has changed and is not what it was in 2008. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 21:48, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

---

Also, what you said about being 'left out of the article' isn't true and is an exaggeration. What we are debating now is the current members' list of names at the head of the page, were you to read the article you would find information on the trio as appropriate. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 22:12, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

---

Just because the three haven't been involved in activites, doesn't mean they're gone, just like BIGBANG have released a music video which doesn't include one of the members, does that also mean he should be put into the former members? Being semantic is the right way to go for this, I say to solve this indifference a section should be created for the three renamed to be more accurate to their current position rather than 'former members'. Also, it would be best to leave out a picture until something is confirmed because who knows what could happen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.37.203 (talk) 14:15, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Apologies to the mods as this is lengthy...

There is a significant difference between BIGBANG and TVXQ - BIGBANG has never had its members involved in contractual disputes with its management company (in fact they extended their contracts with YG Entertainment this year) and all solo and group activities were approved by the same. None of its members ever broke contact with their original management agency and created a different group of their own, which is what the three did with JYJ. Both the Korean and Japanese press consistently differentiate between TVXQ and JYJ as being separate entities and acknowledge that TVXQ is a duo made up of U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin.

How JYJ describe themselves:

Among the promotional materials used for JYJ's album 'The Beginning', their feature story on Billboard.com said this: "As former members of the South Korean boy band TVXQ, the trio of Kim JaeJoong, Park YuChun and Kim JunSu are no strangers to pop stardom..." http://www.billboard.com/features/jyj-release-of-the-week-1004122571.story
Their official press release by their management C-Jes Entertainment for their album 'The Beginning' had this description: "New album from the ex-members of Asia’s top selling male vocal act “TVXQ”... " http://www.dongbanger.com/staff-report/press-release-jyj-announces-qthe-beginningq/
Their official press release in October 2011 by their management C-Jes Entertainment for their World Live Tour 2011 says this: "Junsu, Jejung and Yuchun, former members of TVXQ, formed JYJ in 2010..." http://www.facebook.com/notes/jyj-world-tour-2011-official-site/official-press-release-jyj-world-tour-concert-2011-berlin/219334374796030?ref=nf

By TVXQ's words:

Shim Changmin
“Up until now, although we do spend time to go to classes and record songs, I’m not 100% satisfied with it. After deciding that the two of us would start afresh together, that feeling has become even more intense... ...Our dreams of the past are the same compared to our dreams now, so as TVXQ, we want to create products that will be carried on forever throughout generations."
- Ginger Magazine February 2011
"From now on, it’ll just be the two of us. We want Tohoshinki to evolve so that our music will live on even when we perish."
- Spur Magazine March Issue 2011
"Now that there are only 2 of us instead of 5, whether we’re in photo of PV shoots or anything else, it will always be just the two of us. We have to perform better than we are doing now so that we can exceed people’s expectations."
- Non-No Magazine March 2011
On the album TONE: "We made this album as a gift for fans. This is the first (Japanese) album to be released since we became a duo, so we put our soul into every single song."
- TV Guide (September 16, 2011) , a similar sentence is also repeated by him in a separate interview in Grazia Magazine (November 2011)
Jung Yunho
"Our activities as a duo started from last year's SM Town LIVE (August 2010 in Seoul)."
- Nikkei Entertainment (October 2011)
On the title of the album TONE: "The title has various meanings, for examples, new tone of Tohoshinki’s voice after becoming a duo, tones of a variety of genres, and enthusiasm for finding new tones. But generally the basis of Tohoshinki remains unchanged since our debut. What has possibly changed is that we tried various attempts to positively make the most of being a duo as well as to bring out the individuality of us."
- Ginger Magazine November 2011
"I know some people still cannot accept Tohoshinki of two members. I would like such people to feel the charms of past Tohoshinki and at the same time to see the new color of Tohoshinki we have forged."
- Grazia Magazine (November 2011)
and in the same interview by Changmin: "The message we want to deliver though this album, the planned concert tour and any other future activities is "The path we have taken is not wrong". Through the activities of two of us, I want to show the fans who kindly waited for us that their time had not been wasted."

These are the parties' own descriptions of themselves. TVXQ has been operating as a duo for quite a while now. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 17:12, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

JYJ always state in an interview that they do NOT like to be interpreted as 'former members' of TVXQ as they are STILL members of TVXQ

Jaejoong: “Time has passed and now we are referred to as JYJ and TVXQ, but that we have our group name as the initials of the members means that we work as JYJ in TVXQ. We do not have any intention to get out from the shadow of TVXQ. Because we are still TVXQ, I do not want the expression of TVXQ’s former member either."

There is no need for 'former members' as they have not officially been split up yet. The lawsuit is still going, and it hasn't been solved, so I don't get why there is need for 'past members' or 'former members'

JYJ stated that they want to continue working as a SUBGROUP of TVXQ. In Japan, JYJ are still considered as part of Tohoshinki because Tohoshinki is on hiatus in Japan, which enables JYJ to keep on working under the name of Tohoshinki.

And as for those translations, they could be scripted for all you know. SME has an infamous reputation for scripting their stars interviews in order to gain profit and revenue as well as building up a high profile. Also, SME wants fans to forget about JYJ as fast as possible, as JYJ 'betrayed' SME, so what makes you think that they wouldn't script interviews? (As I've said, they've done it in the past)

Homin now refer to themselves as a Duo, because it's pretty stupid to refer to themselves as '5' when there isn't, but that doesn't mean that they do not consider JYJ as members of TVXQ. When Jaejoong and Yoochun branched out from TVXQ, they referred to themselves as a Duo, but they were STILL with TVXQ. Of course you would refer to yourself as a Duo when you're with someone else. It's common sense.

If Homin said ANYTHING in public about the other 3 members or about missing the other 3, god knows what would happen to them. And again, SME is notorious for their harsh treatment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.30.182.7 (talk) 07:01, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

^^I did not want to reply to this because your post breaks Wiki's rules on no original research, but it is without doubt the most harmful post here because it can spread rumours or misinform the public that reads it and I better clarify things.

I don't want to discuss fan theories, speculations or conspiracies. Only facts. Your unsourced interview with Jaejoong's words contradict what his own management agency is saying.

Also for your info, SM Entertainment and Avex signed new exclusive contracts that would allow SM's artists including Tohoshinki to work in the Japanese market, and this occured after the three had already left. As we know Avex Trax is Tohoshinki's label in Japan. In Avex's press release on November 24 2010, I quote: "As of now, Tohoshinki will continue forward with only Yunho and Changmin." http://www.tokyohive.com/2010/11/avex-announces-news-regarding-sm-entertainment-artists-tohoshinki-dbsk/ , http://www.allkpop.com/2010/11/avex-announces-news-regarding-sm-entertainment-artists-dbsk . So your claim that JYJ is a part of Tohoshinki is false.

Tohoshinki is very obviously not on hiatus. They have been promoting the singles Keep Your Head Down and Superstar and album TONE throughout the year in Japan, in addition to taking part in concerts such as 'a-Nation 10th Anniversary for Life Charge & Weider in Jelly' and SM Town Tokyo. (will add to the article later)

And again, when Jaejoong and Yoochun released the single 'Colors' (30th September 2009), they did so under Avex in Japan but this was before SM filed their lawsuit against the trio (12th April 2010), and before Avex decided to suspend JYJ's activities due to their legal issues (September 2010). The situation was different from what it is now, with TVXQ proceeding entirely as a duo and not a quintet with both SM Entertainment and Avex Trax behind it. The labels have made their stand. Actually, spaghettisauce9, the person who commented before was NOT I repeat: NOT spreading rumours and this is verfiable by a reputable source who interviewed them - http://www.fnn.co.kr/content.asp?aid=96ab21bde215442da14ca83e30c168e9 You vandalised this page and started off this completely unbalanced argument, Wikipedia has no right to pass judgement on who has left a group until something has been confirmed. Your backing your argument by current activities going on under DBSK/Tohoshinki name, which is not confirmation, all that means is that SM doesn't want to keep paying HoMin's wages for doing nothing, logical solution? Carry on with activites until a later date when something has been confirmed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.37.203 (talk) 21:26, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

---

Who is saying Wikipedia is the one to decide or pass judgment? That's just your assumption. What this concerns is the list of current members in TVXQ right now. I did not vandalise this article to start with, this escalated because of the insistence of 'fans', to place people who are no longer even present in the band under current members when they have not been working with SM, Yunho and Changmin for over two years. If this argument is unbalanced it is because it is that simple.

The source you listed is an online version of an interview that refers to Jaejoong's words as the previous poster wrote, which I repeat, contradicts everything that JYJ have previously done in both words and action to distance themselves from TVXQ and what JYJ's management has officially stated. The published date of that online interview is Oct 3 (days after the breaking of the news of TONE's record sales), while the official press release by C-Jes Entertainment for their World Live Tour calling them "former members" was made on Oct 7.

You are making assumptions or drawing your own conclusions by saying that SM is 'carrying on until something has been confirmed'. There has been confirmation already. SM Entertainment directly stated that TVXQ would be making its comeback as a duo on Nov 23 2010. http://iloveohkpop.wordpress.com/2010/11/23/tvxq-to-return-as-a-duo-sm-entertainment-confirms/ , http://www.dkpopnews.net/2010/11/news-tvxq-vs-jyj-sm-we-wont-wait_23.html , http://10.asiae.co.kr/Articles/new_view.htm?sec=ent0&a_id=2010112309581625152 , http://waiting-for-miracles.blogspot.com/2010/12/tvxq-comeback-in-2011-as-duo.html . It is not hanging in the limbo state you seem to be imagining it to be. It is active and moving forward.

Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun are not in TVXQ now. They are not part of the 'duo' that SM and Avex have been promoting since the start of 2011. TVXQ is not made up of five members at this stage but only two - the future is open to speculation but right now TVXQ is a duo. If the things I pointed out have not made this clear to you by now, nothing will. SpaghettiSauce9 (talk) 01:22, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

---

Whatever the reason and whatever the cause, it does not change the fact that currently only YUNHO and CHANGMIN are promoting under the name of TVXQ. Their latest work, be it Why (Keep Your Head Down)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Your_Head_Down, or TONE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tone_(TVXQ_album) only features Yunho and Changmin. Their stage performances under the name TVXQ/DBSK/Tohoshinki is also formed of the two members.

For me, it is not important what label we want to put Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu under. Be it "former members" or "inactive members" or "members currently in a legal dispute to invalidate their contract" or "members currently promoting as JYJ", it will not change the fact that their activities are not recognized as a part of TVXQ activities, but JYJ activities. In fact, according to Korean medias, individual activities such as Junsu's latest musical is credited to Junsu from boyband JYJ, not Junsu from boyband TVXQ. http://10.asiae.co.kr/Articles/new_view.htm?sec=daily4&a_id=2011102817170045994

A wikipedia entry should be written according to the present situation, and present situation is that TVXQ are Yunho and Changmin. Nobody is trying to take away their contribution to TVXQ pre 2011, but to credit them to TVXQ's current work when they do not participate in it isn't fair either. Give credit where credit is due. If there are any changes to the trio's status, then we can always edit the wiki entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.97.53.183 (talk) 09:36, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I agree that JYJ should be put under "past members". A significant time has already passed and it's quite clear that JYJ and HoMin are intent on going separately. Even if JYJ say they don't want to be referred to as former members of DBSK I think they just mean that from a sentimental POV...since their time as DBSK meant alot to them. They obviously don't like working under SM and aren't working with SM anymore which means they're not DBSK anymore so obviously that means they are past members. JYJ are not a subgroup of DBSK since they're not working with SM. --58.105.139.93 (talk) 06:42, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi , i feel that since DBSK/TVXQ are korean , they should be called DBSK on wiki. It is their ORIGINAL korean name in abbreviation, and i feel that this is more right than to call them TVXQ . Their original name is DongBangShinGi after all. Please do change it. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.81.33.243 (talk) 06:55, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

I read the statement that DBSK made it in the Guinness World Records for having the world's largest official fan club. There are 2 cites about this. These cites link to two pages, which are both Asian. Can I have a more official source, like the homepage of Guinness World Records itself? The Guinness World records website does not display all world records, they themselves state it. Probably you would need to manually check in the respective year's printed copy. The cited newspapers given are trustworthy sources. Just because they are not in English, it doesn't mean they are not good sources. I disagree with this move. Their international name is TVXQ - that's what they use on their official site, even on their English section it says About TVXQ. http://tvxq.smtown.com/

This is the English wiki, they should go by the common English name the company uses.

Plus the company themselves always refers to TVXQ to an international/english audience. It's on their official site, it's on their album and concerts. You must have a reliable source. So please try and come to concensus before making such a change. Evaders99 (talk) 01:16, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

The group has multiple names. For the Korean market, they are Dongbangsingi (DBSK), in the Japanese market they are Tohoshinki, in the Chinese market they are Tongfanshengqi (TVfXQ), and for the international market they are TVXQ. Since this is th English wiki, they should remain TVXQ. All other names are mentioned in the article. 小龙 (Timish) # xiǎolóng de xìnxiāng 12:07, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Mirotic lyrics controversy

I feel that the section is way too long, with unnecessary multiple quotations. This thing happens in Korea to almost every performer, that their songs are banned for lyrics considered explicit by censors. It's not like TVXQ was the first to be censored... It's worth mentioning, and mostly in the article of the album, but not in such lengths here. 小龙 (Timish) # xiǎolóng de xìnxiāng 11:46, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

  • I think the section could be shortened, because the length of the section might give a wrong impression about the importance of the issue (the section is almost as long as the lawsuit section!), although I do find it interesting to read, especially the 2nd quote, so I'd also find it a bit sad if too much of it got lost (removed parts could be moved to Mirotic maybe, where, as of right now, there is no section discussing the issue, which I think it should be). Then again, for readers interested, there are references. I'm not so familiar with the topic of censoring k-pop in Korea, but if that kind of thing happens to other k-pop groups, too, maybe it should be mentioned, so that readers can classify the issue better (also in contrast to censoring elsewhere). Pancakey-sshi 14:50, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
I didn't mean to delete the whole thing, it can be moved to Mirotic as it is and then a shorter paraphrased section can remain here with a link to Mirotic. 小龙 (Timish) # xiǎolóng de xìnxiāng 12:04, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Edit request on 13 January 2013 - Who named the TVXQ fan club, Cassiopeia?

Dear Wiki,

First of all, thank you for your continuous effort to keep this site open and provide valuable information to the users of the website. I personally get a lot of help from Wiki and would like to contribute something on the website in the future.

In the meantime, I found one error which could provide wrong information to the users. This is regarding TVXQ, the Korean Pop Duo and very famous in the world especially in Asia. They are called as 'King of K-pop' and have numerous numbers of fans all over the world.

The error I found is regarding their fan club 'Cassiopeia' and who named the fan club. It says that the person who named 'Cassiopeia' is the member Max Changmin, but it is actually the leader, U-know Yunho.

Current in the Fan Club section: The official fanclub of TVXQ is called Cassiopeia[171] in South Korea and BigEast in Japan,[172] formed in 2006. The Korean fan club name, Cassiopeia, was created by member Max Changmin.

Please refer the links that are attached. It is all written in Korean, but if you require translation into English, I am more than happy to do so.

One the bottom of the blog, it provides actually the exact information as the above link.

If you need more information regarding this request, please let me know. I will provide as much information as I could to fix the incorrect information. If you think this is acceptable and it needs to be corrected, please do so.

Thank you in advance!

TwinkleYunho (talk) 22:24, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi, we would need more reliable sources than blogs. Newspaper articles, or a video (like an interview where Yunho mentions he created the name) for example. Blogs, fan cafes and fan forums are not considered reliable sources. We cannot base our articles on circled rumours. I took the sentence out from the article for the time being. 小龙 (Timish) # xiǎolóng de xìnxiāng 22:54, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
I have set this edit request to "answered" for now in light of the above response. Please feel free to continue discussion as appropriate. —KuyaBriBriTalk 22:18, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Edit request on 15 April 2013 - Guiness World Records

I'm requesting the removal of the information regarding TVXQ! winning the Guiness World Records for having the largest fanclub. This is somewhat incorrect as even though TVXQ! had broken the record of biggest official fanclub (Leader Jung Yunho had stated this here at around the 5:17 mark), Guiness World Records does not recognise the category. A 'reliable' source does not exist for this as all sources involve directly contacting Guiness World Records and do not leave public sources. However, screenshots of emails exist on the allkpop forums (link here) and I have personally contacted them as well to confirm it. Thank you. Vers01 (talk) 10:14, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Done Thank you for pointing this out. I have removed the text about Guinness World Records. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 21:00, 30 April 2013 (UTC) 21:02, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about this, but under Awards and achievements, there are still a few sentences about the world records. I have changed my request back into unanswered for now. Vers01 (talk) 22:12, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Not done: please make your request in a "change X to Y" format. - You need to propose exact wording for the change(s) you want to be made, in the form of "Please change X to Y", or "Please remove X". The linked sources mention connection with more than one Guinness Record, and, although they are not the best sources, it is unclear exactly what you want the revised article to say. So as to avoid the change needing to be continually remade, please provide your exact proposed wording. Thanks. Begoontalk 02:49, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

I think before these sourced sentences are removed, solid proof should be presented. The world record was reported by Korean and international news outlets as well, including KBS, one of South Korea's largest TV stations. I doubt they would base their sources on groundless fan rumours in such cases. The screenshots on a fan forum doesn't prove anything, anyone can fake emails as well. The solution would be if a Wikipedian contacted Guinness Records and had their answer sent to the OTRS system, so we would have an official letter of proof. Then the solution would be not to delete the info but to add, that despite serious sources, official answer from Guinness says that they have no such records. These claims on TVXQ and world records are so wide-spread knowledge that it's going to be put back into the article in other wikis as well. If we want this to stop, we have to state something along these lines: "Despite X and Z sources claiming that TVXQ's fabclub Cassiopeia was certified as the largest official fanclub in the world,{sources} Guinness Book of Records confirmed that no such certification was issued.{OTRS ticket}. Teemeah 편지 (letter) 08:01, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Certainly seems like we need some sort of consensus if we are going to make a change - that's why I was reluctant to just go ahead here. Hopefully the discussion is now going to develop towards an agreed version. Begoontalk 08:34, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
I have contacted Guinness and the reply email can be read by OTRS agents under the ticket id 2013050810012528. The response is the following:

Thank you for contacting GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS.

To answer your question;

We currently have a category for the largest fanclub for a group, but no record has yet been set and we haven’t been provided with any evidence.

We do not have a record for the most photographed celebrity as this would be impossible to measure accurately. We do have the most money paid for celebrity photographs, and things like that, but not this record.

I think we should amend the info in the article referring to the OTRS ticket number. Teemeah 편지 (letter) 21:18, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

South Korea weekly music charts

footnote 1 states: "Unlike in other countries, South Korea's charts, supplied by the Music Industry of Korea, only publish monthly and yearly rankings. All rankings for Korean records in this article refer to the monthly charts and all rankings for Japanese records refer to the Oricon's weekly charts unless otherwise stated. "

This statement is dated or needs year(s) added for clarification as South Korea DOES have the weekly singles and albums charts, namely Gaon and Billboard K-Pop. -AngusWOOF (talk) 05:28, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Gaon Chart launched in 2010 so it is safe to say that before 2010 there was no weekly chart. Teemeah 편지 (letter) 12:56, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

DBSK, not TVXQ.

Hi , i feel that since DBSK/TVXQ are korean , they should be called DBSK on wiki. It is their ORIGINAL korean name in abbreviation, and i feel that this is more right than to call them TVXQ . Their original name is DongBangShinGi after all. Please do change it. Thank you.

You are absolutely correct. DBSK is the official abbreviation of their real Korean name. Since the article is about a Korean group, it should use the official abbreviation used in Korea and closest to their official name. I remember that this page has been changed to put the Korean name first several times and it always gets changed back by someone shortly thereafter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.34.143.19 (talk) 15:56, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Please rewrite performance skill section

The Performance skill section needs an overhaul for fancruft and tone. "Sounding exactly like their CD" is open to a lot of interpretation: it can be viewed as good in that they can sing in-tune, or bad that they can just lip sync during a live performance or not stretch their vocal abilities or show variety on a song beyond what they did in the studio. Why should dancing be a strength? Did they win dance contests or music video/concert awards for best choreography because of it? Did they inspire dancing crazes like the twist, the moonwalk or Gangnam Style? Why the three hours? Are they on stage the entire time singing? At a festival they might perform for a single set (no more than an hour). It's very vague. Also the statements in the section to be supported and sourced by reliable secondary media sources, particularly by music analysts and critics. An anonymous writer who writes that they are the "kings of K-pop" or "continuously improving" does not have the same weight as a music critic for a major publisher, or a company that gives official awards and title recognitions. -AngusWOOF (talk) 05:15, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Same problem with Music Removed (MR). Is that even a notable chart? Have they released MR versions that have charted nationally on Gaon or Oricon? And how is popularity judged from there? Did it break any Youtube records? Did it make headline entertainment news? -AngusWOOF (talk) 06:47, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
In answer to the MR chart, it was posted by Mnet. Thanks for providing the source. The other parts of that section still need improvement. Fans commenting that they are great singers and dancers do not count as analysis. -AngusWOOF (talk) 05:33, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Fanclub section

I took out the reference to KGB Answers as source for the Guinness record claim. Let's not be ridiculous, ok? The source was given as http://www.kgbanswers.com/which-band-has-the-largest-official-fanclub/3853260, which in turn gives th source for the world record as this website: [10] - a fan blog. KGB Answers, in contrast with the claim in the article that it sources the Guiness database, gives a fan blog as source to the claim. It's ridiculous to accept this as a reliable source, going against a verified answer from the Guinness company. Teemeah 편지 (letter) 12:44, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Fan club started in 2006?

Need a RS or primary source page that confirms that the fan clubs started in 2006. -AngusWOOF (talk) 22:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
