[edit]How about renaming this article as "Vietnamese place names"? Kanguole 01:44, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi User:Kanguole. If you are interested to create an article Vietnamese place names then by all means start one. This however is about Tên chữ. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:22, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- If you couldn't tell that was slight annoyance. Anyway, quickly passed, Place names of Vietnam needed so created. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:59, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- Since tên chữ and tên nôm are Vietnamese terms for kinds of Vietnamese place name, and the aim here is to create an encyclopedia rather than a Vietnamese-English glossary, it would be better to cover them in the article on Vietnamese place names than in a stub under a name that isn't used in English. - It is normal for any language that when specific terms get used in English (as in this case, or indeed your own Sanyi article, or many other Chinese-named articles) the specific term is used. As it stands this is a distinct article with its own vi.wp counter-article and I am not even sure worthy of a bluelink in Vietnamese place names at this point. Thank you for having pointed out the absence of Vietnamese place names article. Right now Chinese place names is also in need of work. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:41, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- These terms aren't used in English. The article links to an English-language book that mentions them in an endnote but finds it necessary to gloss them for the English-speaking readership. Apparently this is the only English-language hit on Google books. That is not evidence of English usage. Kanguole 11:55, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- Well the book looks like English to me. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:09, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
