Merge

[edit]

Sustainable gardens, landscapes and sites seems to be a mish-mash (or "disparate group of horticultural interests") of topics. There are already so many "sustainable this and that" stubs that need improving, and this particular combination does not appear to be notable (e.g. no hits at all on Google). Suggest that content be combined into other articles like Sustainable landscape architecture. Zodon (talk) 08:39, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It may be better to get rid of the article all together in a speedy delete. I would support that. Mostly the article is a coat rack of original research... the book sourcing the article is published by the originator of the article... this is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VSCA -- This may have been a bad oversight by the person that originated the article as this is a major conflict of interest... putting up information to a book one is the author of ... but it is a major conflict of interest. The U.N. is also over sourced in the article in blank reff's, and another source about a garden in Texas.
I have peeled off the sourcing in the article to Sustainable Gardens and Royal Botanic Gardens... where authors are connected. The people that published that book also made the article... this is a problem. It probably could be reported to the conflict of interest board on Wiki... this is a little tricky, because it is not fair game to out the author though that is public information. Speedy delete... most appropriate... or A.f.D.,,, or just making the article go away in a merge that does not transfer much of any content seems appropriate and would not bring a lot of attention to this... and sort things out on a lower rung level, which is usually better. skip sievert (talk) 21:01, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First Zodon. Try googling "Sustainable gardening" or "Sustainable gardens" or "Sustainable sites" or "Sustainable landscapes". You will find there is massive interest and a healthy history to these topics. However, as I formerly stated, treatuing them separately is not the way to go. This article is of much more value to WP than the many non-notable sustainability stubs that you have ignored. You clearly have little knowledge of this topic as, if you did, you would be aware of the inappropriatemess of merging with Sustainable architecture. I have discussed COI on the Discussion page and the references to the UN are absolutely appropriate. Skip, unfortunately, lacks credibility as an editor (see his edit history). Certainly, if any merge is to take place it would be better to mege SLA into SGLS to avoid the proliferation of "Sustainable everythings". Suggest other, more objective opinion is sought. I did not propose merging the article into sustainable architecture. Landscape architecture is the design of outdoor space (certainly covers landscapes, probably covers sites). It seemed one of the more closely related articles to the new article, but as noted above, there are others. (Since the content of the new gardens, etc. still needed a lot of work, and the concept as written did not appear to be notable (will discuss that in naming section at article), merging it into other articles seemed the best handling.) But I don't much care about direction of the merge. Zodon (talk) 23:59, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
At this stage it seems that the proposal is to merge "Sustainable landscape architecture" into Sustainable gardens, landscapes and sites (which may or may not be given a different title depending on the outcome of discussion). Granitethighs (talk) 21:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Zodon has listed google hits on the talk page. It seems that "Sustainable gardening" is the preferred option with the related topics redirected to this heading. Sustainable landscapes might get votes though? Granitethighs (talk) 20:00, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I support no merge - keeping the Sustainable gardening and Sustainable landscape architecture articles separate, with this l.arch. one focusing on the "project scale" between gardening-personal gardens-gardeners (in Category:Sustainable gardening) and urban design-regional landscape planning-environmental designers-planners (in Category:Sustainable urban planning). This one can be expanded at a landscape arch. design-master plan: philosophy-techniques-technology-landscape architects scale, in Category:Sustainable environmental design. In the wikipedia 'a work in progress' spirit, patience with current less distinguishable and lean articles on popular search topics may be needed until 'we editors' expand them. A new pair of eyes

[edit]

I have read the talk pages of both articles, and agree that the articles should not be merged. I will leave a comment on the other talk page as well. --Greenmaven (talk) 09:27, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article seems much improved since tagged with Template:No_footnotes in 2008, and now has many inline citations added to the general references.AdabhaelTalk 17:50, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
