[edit]re: "Superheated steam is not suitable for sterilization." That doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. If the articles definition is correct superheated steam is just steam above 100C/212F Hotter steam should be more effective for sterilization not less. Twfowler (talk) 18:13, 23 June 2008 (UTC) I agree, and this is further contradicted by the stated use for "Pest Control" Edrandall (talk) 08:39, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
This is for the "citation required" answer. http://www.spiraxsarco.com/resources/steam-engineering-tutorials/steam-engineering-principles-and-heat-transfer/superheated-steam.asp —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.197.178.2 (talk) 18:23, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Please remove references 2 and 3 as what is asserted on their behalf is very wrong. The mechanical engineering comunity should please weigh-in. Superheated steam is better for heating as well as for sterilization as superheated steam is dry and hot. Saturated steam on the other hand has a probability of being of low quality. Quality is an engineering term for saturated steam and refers to the moisture content. The practical use of superheated steam should be with significantly superheated steam because one does not want it to condense on a cold surface. For example at one atmosphere one should try to be over 200C. Of course saturated steam if used in such a manner would be much worse as it contains a lower enthalpy for the same mass, compared to superheated steam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Independent assesment (talk • contribs) 02:39, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- No. Check some decent refs on soil sterilization. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:01, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
re: "the water droplets entrained in the fluid flow will strike the mechanical parts of engines or turbines, with enough force to bend, crack or fracture them" - so how did steam engines work before superheating was developed? How does an aircraft safely fly through clouds composed of water vapour? I think a citation is needed here Edrandall (talk) 08:39, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
A phase diagram is surely needed on this article, I'm not really left much the wiser. I learned more here: http://www.systhermique.com/steam-condensate/services/troubleshooting/superheated-steam/ Edrandall (talk) 08:46, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
"Superheated steam is also not useful for heating" - tell that to Rankine.Wikibearwithme (talk) 02:59, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Why is this section linked to "Main article: High-pressure steam locomotive"? You don't need a high pressure to use superheating. Biscuittin (talk) 20:07, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
