Factions
[edit]There are at least 3 factions in South Sudan (excluding Abyei). Need a different article or atleast mention here: SPLM-JubaSPLM-IOSPLM-N (as mentioned)Lihaas (talk) 08:52, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Centre-right?
[edit]There is some source for SPLM being a centre-right organization? Their homepage says nothing about its ideological position, but is full of articles with titles written in a way that is not typical of right-wing or centre-right movements ("SPLM mourns Comrade Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela","ANC leaders in South Sudan to strengthen ties with SPLM","SPLM Chairman Comrade Kiir concludes successful Bahr El Ghazal tour")--MiguelMadeira (talk) 21:42, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
Ideology
[edit]As someone who briefly lived in South Sudan, and knows a little bit about the history, I would be curious to know what, precisely, the ideology of the SPLM is. From my understanding, they were originally committed to a socialist, secular "New Sudan" under Dr. John Garang, but many of his followers preferred South Sudanese independence over replacing the Islamist Khartoum regime. Following the death of Dr. Garang and independence it would seem as though the SPLM is socially conservative from a Christian perspective (homosexuality is a criminal offence, etc.) and possibly Dinka tribalist, but beyond that it is very difficult to define the party and government ideologically. Do they remain committed to socialism? Do they see themselves as Left or Right? It would be interesting to hear a summary of their ideology as it stands now from someone in the know. - I think you are right on New Sudan. The push for independence was stronger from the 1990s onwards, see National Convention of New Sudan. I think that it would be wrong to place ideological labels on the party today. It is a broad, catch-all, party with no clear ideology or political doctrine. --Soman (talk) 19:39, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
