Name consistency

[edit]

For the sake of consistency, this article should stick to a single name for the guy and not use one of four different options randomly at will. Since the title of the article is "Stromae" I suggest using "Stromae" throughout. Archivingcontext (talk) 01:28, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads-up to anyone watching that I'll be working on improving the quality of this article over the next few months. As for name consistency, I'd like to eventually change to "Paul Van Haver", since he's made a point of distancing himself from his musical persona. He's stated that Stromae is just one of several projects of his company, Mosaert. Re-writing the article to reflect his new name preference will take some time and a lot of thought about structure, so I'll be focusing on cleaning up / adding citations, first. Tool Kit Section Necessary?

[edit]

Hi everyone. Just wondering if this section listing the different "tools" used by Stromae is necessary? Doesn't seem germane to the article and I haven't seen it on many pop artist articles. Would like to get input before I move forward with any edits. Should we delete? Re-locate? Thoughts appreciated. AbeFrohman1977 (talk) 17:32, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've added an unreferenced section tab. Unless someone steps up to reference, I think the section should be removed AbeFrohman1977 (talk) 19:29, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

‎84.106.90.249, I'm tempted to revert. There are many Belgian artists heavily influenced by African or Afropop music, [1] and more importantly, Stromae isn't really one of them, absent Rwandan dad notwithstanding. He's in the House music or Electronic music tradition, which you might argue owe some of their polyrhythm to African drumming, but are not "Music of Africa". Do you have other reasons to believe visitors to this article will want to cf. Zap Mama? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FourViolas (talkcontribs) 03:20, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is now early 2016 and I see that the Zap Mama link is still there. When I saw it I was quite surprised as I really see no relationship between Stromae's music and Zap Mama's. They may both nominally be Belgian groups looking towards Africa, but in reality there is so little to connect them that I think it should be deleted. Also I don't actually think his music has much African in it at all, except of course for the Ave Cesaria song - which might suggest a Cesaria Evora link, but I'd be reluctant to put that in either. Coralie Barbier (#Personal life)

[edit]

Several users have introduced assertions that Stromae is in a relationship with his lead stylist, Coralie Barbier. This rumor has been much-discussed in French WP:Tabloid (gossip-mongering) media, but reliable sources such as the Monde (6 Jan 2015) refer to her only as his stylist. WP:NOTGOSSIP and WP:BLPGOSSIP make it very clear that such information should not be included unless reliable sources concur that it is true and relevant. I'm happy to try to explain further if anyone would like me to. FourViolas (talk) 20:47, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I take a closer look, the sources for his relationship with Ms. Silva appear sensationalist and unreliable as well. (fr:wp has no equivalent to the WP:RSN, but the naked-pictures-of-celebrities meter suggests these outlets are not the pinnacle of journalism.) Unless someone can provide a respectable source, I'm going to delete that information soon. Remember, the biographies of living persons policy insists on properly reliable sources, especially for potentially controversial statements. FourViolas (talk) 21:07, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mosaert

[edit]

Hello all - I wonder whether Mosaert would warrant its own page? Kotuku33 (talk) 10:27, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I would say it probably does not meet WP:GNG. It's mentioned by plenty of fairly reliable sources, but as far as I can see never beyond a sentence or two saying that it's Stromae's fashion line/recording label (usually one or the other) and that it is run by Stromae and Barbier. Notability is not WP:INHERITED, so I think the material is better served here. FourViolas (talk) 00:59, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
With Mosaert now focusing on expanding the clothing line and producing videos for artists other than Stromae, it may warrant its own page at some point in the near future. But it's probably still a little early to do it now. While I'm working on updating and cleaning up the Stromae page, I'll see how much info on Mosaert I can dig up. With PVH's desire to move away from being "Stromae", it may make more sense to give Mosaert its own page and limit this page to exclusively Stromae-related info.
