Population

I would strongly dispute that the population of South Cave is so high.

Town/village

Is South Cave a town? This article seems to make the place out to be a lot bigger then it actually is. I may be wrong here, but I would have called South Cave a village, allbeit a large village. It has very few ammenities, most off its shops (except the ones to the far West of the town/village) are in the small local centre, which is hard,ly substancial enough to call a town centre (Even Brough is pushing the limits of the term). I had it down as a village, but an IP reverted my change and produced a reference to the parish council being held at the town hall. I think from the parish council web site it looks like it is a village even though it has a town hall. If it was a town I would have expected it to have been called a town council rather than parish council. I was hoping that some one with more knowledge would clear up this one. It may have a charter but does not currently appear to be classing itself as a town and the East Riding County Council does not have it noted as a town. Keith D (talk) 21:31, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

It is distant about two-and-a-half miles from the river Humber, eight miles south-by-east from Market Weighton, nine miles south-west from Beverley, 12 from Hull; one mile from South Cave station, on the Hull, Barnsley, and West Riding Junction railway; and three from Brough station, on the Hull and Selby branch of the North-Eastern railway. A charter was granted to Peter Dayryll in 1279, by Edward I., empowering him to hold in his manor of South Cave, a weekly market, on Monday, and one fair yearly, to be held on the eve, the day, and the morrow of the feast of the Holy Trinity. The market has been abandoned, but a fair for cattle, sheep, and horses is held on Trinity Monday and Tuesday, another on the second Monday after Michaelmas day. The latter was established in 1831. That is an old reference how about some present day references as the parish council and East Riding of Yorkshire council both indicate it is a village. It may have held town status in the past but what about its present day status. Keith D (talk) 00:11, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

South Cave is affectionately known as a village by it's residents. It was historically a most important trading point. The current market was re-started using the charter eleven years ago. So now we have proved South Cave is a town, why does someone keep reverting it to a village status. Actually Keith D is a very good Wikipedia editor. If you want to get the best out of Wikipedia, find good sources for your contributions and reference them. There's no need to get personal. Zozzie 9t9 (talk) 06:32, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

As indicated previously have you any current day reference to the fact. It is not designated a town in the present day which is what the article shows. Keith D (talk) 12:50, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
