Merge Proposal
[edit]OK, so I will clarify the distinction between a social center and community center. brooklyn_agit 23:25, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
A month and a half have flashed by, so now the merger goes ahead.Harrypotter 12:25, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
I have reverted the merger as I feel that you have not put forward a good enough case for your unilateral decision. Prenna 14:05 11 May 2006
- I agree with Prenna and brooklyn_agit that a merger is not a good move. Mujinga 20:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- ok, ten days on, no further discussion, so i have removed the merge notice Mujinga 20:06, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Expanding page
[edit]I have just been wikifying the entry for the RampART Social Centre and i took out a few things talking about social centres which i thought would go better here. Mujinga 20:35, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- I broke the article into sections including countries and will be adding more stuff later ... there still could be many more individual social centres mentioned (with their own pages eventually i guess) and also much more on the philosophy behind social centres, with backup quotes. Im also not so keen on the intro paragraph, as it stands now it's heading towards wordsalad Mujinga 18:04, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]Why is it social center not social centre when the article itself declares that this is a mainly European phenomenon? Its getting a bit annoying having to do 'social center|social centre' for all the links.Mujinga 21:56, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. Per MOS:TIES, this can be changed social center -> social centre and per MOS:RETAIN consensus should be sought here first. Widefox; talk 07:18, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- +1 for the name change. Lopifalko (talk) 07:33, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
Vandalism!!
[edit]Woah i just noticed this page has been suffering from a destructive edit by 195.92.40.49 since July (he/she seems to have been warned a few times on his talk page for vandalism)!! I have reverted the changes made. Mujinga 01:03, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Direct links, no info.
[edit]In the the Netherlands section, there were a number of links pointing to external websites, which, as far as I know, is bad style. (See WP:EL.) I replaced them with wiki links. Now it turns out there are no English articles for Vrankrijk and Occii. --oKtosiTe talk 09:13, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
is Illegality th decider?
[edit]There seems to be a desire to make social centres reliant on some kind of illegality , squatting for example. And COmmunity centres in contrst supported or funded by the state. RATHER than the purposes the group is put to. COuld it not be argued that a COMMUNITY CENTRE serves the local geographic community, such a a village ahll is for everything in the village, wheras a SOCIAL CENTRE is more about realtionship to a theme - of socisety that is not tied to a religious or general usage building??
I still think this can be confuising as where would you placve RISG - http://www.risc.org.uk/
that seems to be a SOCIAL CENTRE, yet is perfectly legal? Its also strange that there is no wikipedia articel on the place, given the legnth of time it has been around and media references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.246.69.184 (talk) 22:38, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- Social Centers appear to be a subset of Community Centres. Social Centers have greater independent from state or NGO funding. Please make a page on RISC if it is notable.Jonpatterns (talk) 13:23, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
