The title
[edit]The title Siege of Nargund 1778 is needed since there was another siege in the same location in 1785. It will confuse the readers.user:Deb Ajayraj890 (talk) 01:45, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- There is no article on that other siege and I can't find any reference to it. This is clearly the primary topic. If you want to avoid confusion, all you need to do is to mention in the article that there was a later siege. Deb (talk) 03:29, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- There is an another siege in Nargund in 1785 led by Tipu Sultan. Okay I will make it with a title 'second siege of Nargund'. There are references for that too. Ajayraj890 (talk) 13:26, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Date
[edit]Date is wrong Melechha (talk) 13:09, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
- No there was two sieges in Nargund. One was conducted by Hyder Ali and another one was by Tipu Sultan which is second siege of Nargund. Ajayraj890 (talk) 05:38, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- There was no siege of Nargund in 1778, your sources are somewhere misleading (redirects to the wrong page) or it talks about the siege of Nargund 1785 Melechha (talk) 11:14, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Which source redirect to wrong page? I could fix that. There was a siege of Nargund in 1778. It was led by Hyder Ali. After Hyder's death, the ruler of Ramdurg revolted against Mysore. It was Vyankitrao Behave who was present in both sieges. Ajayraj890 (talk) 13:39, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Almost your every source are random except the BRAHMAN ITIHASA: A FORGOTTEN HISTORY OF BHARATVARSH which is too doesn't provide any citation on his own and the other sources like History of Tipu Sultan by Mohibbul Hasan p. 90 and 91 doesn't mention any of the siege of Nargund 1778 Melechha (talk) 14:18, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- It does says about the first siege. Majority of the sources highlights the second siege the most. That must be the reason why you thought that. I will add more citations. Ajayraj890 (talk) 17:55, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- The one you are talking about is the battle of Nargund and the first siege of Nargund was in 1785 which was Mysore victory but the second one was nearly after that and it was a Maratha victory so I will suggest you to look further in the book history of Tipu Sultan. Melechha (talk) 19:25, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- It is not Battle of Nargund. Siege of Nargund in 1778 was led by Hyder Ali aganist Ramdurg state. He occupied the state and set its Brahmin ruler Vyankitrao Bhave as ruler as long as he paid tribute. After the death of Hyder, Vyankitrao stopped giving tribute to Mysore and Tipu Sultan sent his general Burkhanudhin to siege the Nargund in 1785. It was second siege of Nargund. And if there is another siege, it could be third siege of Nargund. Ajayraj890 (talk) 02:40, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- And also clarify you 1st,3rd and 6th citations or just give the link where it redirects to snippet view of this conflict Melechha (talk) 12:55, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- 3rd citation was irrelevant. Thank you for clarifying that. And for 1st and 6th citations, the link is already given. Anyone can read it through books since the name of the author, book and year is given. Ajayraj890 (talk) 11:45, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
