Separate page
[edit]Anybody interested in typing up something about Siclian people? 64.230.110.176 (talk) 21:34, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Somehow this got redirected to List of people from Sicily. Sicilians are indeed a separate ethnic group, how can we fix this?Paolorausch (talk) 23:00, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
- No. They are part of the Italian ethnic group. This issue has been already discussed.--93.36.7.30 (talk) 23:48, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
- There is nothing to "discuss". The only source is the word of the respondents. If they declare themselves Sicilian then their place within sovereign Italy has no greater importance than people in France calling themselves French. Yes they remain part of the West Romance languages group and subsequently I oppose every editor who attempts to conflate an injection of Hellenic or Semitic Maltese assimilating into the mix as a premise to call Sicilians anything other than Romance. But you don't get to inflate the meaning of 'Italianhood' to some umbrella concept so as to cast the fishing net over other populations. --Edin balgarin (talk) 16:18, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- thank you for your reply, can you provide me a link to that page?Paolorausch (talk) 03:42, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
- Furthermore why does Sardinia have a page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sardinian_people Paolorausch (talk) 06:47, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

Unsourced and copypasted material
[edit]Over the past month, IP editor 49.188.182.39 and other 120.20.* IPs all from Adelaide, Australia, have made several hundred edits to the article. The efforts to help improve Wikipedia are appreciated. Unfortunately, there are some serious problems that may require some or all of the contributions to be removed.
First, although a great deal of text has been added, as far as I can tell no reliable sources have been cited. Unsourced contributions may be challenged and removed. Secondly, large amounts of text have apparently been copypasted from other places. I'm not certain where it all comes from, but for example in this edit yesterday: [1], most of the text is copied from Charles I of Anjou and Muslim settlement of Lucera, without attribution. Furthermore, the text from the latter was copied from the displayed article, including the footnote numbers but not the actual citations; text from the former included short footnote style links but not the citations themselves. For now I've reverted the article to the version prior to that edit, but further reversion may be required. In fact I'm tempted to revert the entire article back to the version of 27 Feburary, but I need to investigate further. I have also left several messages on the the IP's talk page about these and other problems. So far they have not responded. --IamNotU (talk) 13:11, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- I have reverted or corrected these edits where possible. 142.184.158.195 (talk) 01:03, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- 142.184.158.195, thanks for helping to correct some of the edits. The user, recently on 49.188.103.161, has now responded on their talk page, and has started to add some sources. However, there are still huge parts of the article, like the history and the culture sections, that are entirely unsourced; I've just marked some of them. Between 7 March and 2 April for example, there were about 300 edits by them (see Special:Diff/942938112/948765586 - almost all changes were theirs), including several pages of new material, without a single citation. I've asked them to comment here, maybe you both can discuss it? There is still the question of what to do, whether proper sources can be added (I'm not able to do that), or the material should be removed. --IamNotU (talk) 02:00, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- There are still large sections that are almost completely unsourced, I've tagged some more specifically. I understand that the article is still being worked on, but some of it may need to be removed if sources are not provided in a timely manner. Providing sources is the WP:BURDEN of the editor who adds the content. I appreciate that some sources were added, e.g. to the Prehistory section. It's not clear though, what many of them refer to, as they are all bunched up at the end of long paragraphs. It would be very helpful if they could be moved to the relevant parts of the text; see WP:INTEGRITY. Thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 11:34, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Related ethnic groups
[edit]I appreciate the edit of @Teluguwaifu: on 13 Sept. 2022 adding Greeks, Maltese, Sardinians, Albanians and Berbers to Italians under "Related ethnic groups" in the Infobox. However, I would ask that an appropriate source be cited in the article for the Arbëreshë people. It seems to me that the Albanians are not so much a related ethnic group, as they are a co-occupiers of a very small part of Sicily. The others are all significant contributors to the Sicilian gene pool. --Bejnar (talk) 13:12, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
