Requested move
[edit]This article has been renamed from Sheffield Victoria Station to Sheffield Victoria railway station as the result of a move request.
- The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was - move to standardise on naming for railway station articles. Keith D (talk) 10:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
This is a multiple move suggestion
Sheffield Victoria Station --> Sheffield Victoria railway station
Oughty Bridge Station --> Oughty Bridge railway station
Sheffield Wicker Station --> Sheffield Wicker railway station
Ths is just so that they are in line with other similar articles but looking at the history these looked controversial so suggestions welcome. Simply south (talk) 14:07, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- If the articles are moved, Rotherham Westgate Station should also be moved, to Rotherham Westgate railway station. Warofdreams talk 23:28, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree - as per nominator to standerdise on naming of railway station articles Keith D (talk) 15:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree - for consistency. Warofdreams talk 15:30, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree - as above. Let's hope New Street is next! Btline (talk) 19:15, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree Adambro (talk) 19:47, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Disagree. Stations should remain where they are, as standardised naming for these three stations is already being provide by the relevant redirect pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pyrotec (talk • contribs) 20:23, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose - no need to disambiguate as there are no other articles with similar names. Wikipedia naming conventions call for the most common naming unless disambiguation is necessary. If moves are to be made then Victoria Station (Sheffield) and Wicker Station would better follow naming conventions —Jeremy (talk) 20:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree: to follow the de facto naming convention. Consistency is the key here. --RFBailey (talk) 21:45, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree - Consistency and consensus on naming policy. Olana North (talk) 13:21, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Used in 1981
[edit]This Facebook post has a photo, and says:
this is may/June 1981 , the dmu was on a Huddersfield - Sheffield midland service when it had to set back into victoria station due to points failure, here we can see the passengers alighting from the dmu which was i guess the last time any passengers used Sheffield Victoria Station
Was this covered in a reliable source, such as the railway or local press? An earlier tweet says 17 June 1981 and has a second pic. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:04, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- The Facebook link just takes you to the group, [1] should (at least in theory) take you to the post. Thryduulf (talk) 13:23, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- If anyone has access to the Sheffield Transport journal, it seems that issue 119 from last month has a piece on the station's "emergency use" on 17 June 1981. Lamberhurst (talk) 08:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Lamberhurst Good spot, thank you. I have written to the publishers requesting a copy. I mention this lest anybody else do likewise. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:24, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
