  • The article was initially created using material from the 2010 Pacific typhoon season article. When that happens, per DYK rules, the copied material must be expanded 5x, just as needs to happen with pre-existing articles that are expanded. In this case, 1505 prose characters in have been copied in the current version of Severe Tropical Storm Lionrock (2010), meaning that to qualify for DYK, the article must be 7525 prose characters. At the moment, however, it is only 4068 prose characters, so another 3457 prose characters will need to be added for the article to be eligible for DYK, more than has already been added to the article from the original 2010 material. While that seems unlikely, I've used the "Maybe" icon rather than the "Rejected" icon in case TheNuggeteer believes they can do an expansion in the next week or so. A full week has passed since the above comment and no major work has been done to the article, nor was a response made. In addition, the article now has an open request to merge it back into the main typhoon season article. Marking for closure as ineligible. Missing info

[edit]

I see this is at GAN so I didn’t want to take over that nom, but I’m worried about this article. There are practically no examples of damage other than the 165 destroyed houses. Is that the only damage the storm caused? Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 17:07, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hurricanehink mobile I have scoured over the internet for at least 8 tabs and only found this info. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 22:44, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If that's all there is, then should there even be an article? There were no deaths, and there isn't much that's in this article than what's in the season article (which is going to need a fuller section for a lot of storms, including Lionrock). Considering 2010 was one of the quietest seasons on record, I think it could handle the info that's here. Or, perhaps the article should be expanded to include Namtheun? Depends how much impacts the two storms had. But since the season article isn't a GA yet, and needs to be expanded, this could be a good place to start. Much of the impact section is redundant to the met history anyway, like mentioning the Guangdong landfall a second time, the big quote, or describing the movement near Hong Kong. Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but I'm just not convinced the article establishes enough of a reason to keep it split off from the season article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 23:13, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The thing that convinced me was the 65 million worth of damage, you should make a merge request. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 10:11, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheNuggeteer: there is an active GAN. I didn't want to propose a merger while that was open. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:07, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Possible merger?

[edit]

Now that the GA review was closed, I wanted to open up a proper merge discussion. This article is only 600 words (excluding the lead, which just summarizes everything else). The 2010 Pacific typhoon season was one of the least active in many years, so some of the content here could be useful for the season article (which also discusses the met history and impacts). Given that there was only $65 million in damage (not that much for China), and it was more notable for its interaction with the other two storms, I think it's worth discussing merging the article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:25, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hurricanehink Remove Good article nominee. or Merge to 2010 Pacific typhoon season 🌀TyphoonAmpil Tools 00:32, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just make a merger nom. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 00:36, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom and if it fails, at least move it to Tropical Storm Lionrock (2010). ZZZ'S 13:18, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the current merge discussion I'm going to quick fail this nomination however based on first glance I have this to say:

  • The lead is very short and could be expanded.
  • I have not done an in-depth search here but are there more sources on the topic?
  • With topics like this that have very few sources you want to make sure you are getting the most of every available source. WP:MINE has some good advice on how to do this. IntentionallyDense (talk) 00:29, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
