[edit]What the crap does "eight times warmer than sheep's wool" mean? 130.71.220.18 (talk) 18:38, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Qiviut can be dyed without damaging the fiber
[edit]I would like to add information to the Qiviut page that explains that the 100% yarn can be dyed and has been dyed for many years without effecting the quality or softness of the fiber. I have talked to several fiber artists who dye the qiviut over the years and each has said it dyes just like many other natural fibers. I have seen the dyed product and can see/feel no differences between the 100% qiviut dyed vs the 100% qiviut natural color. A user named CambridgeBayWeather removed some text I added and a footnote and marked it as spam. I would like for someone to explain how this was spam. If you are suggesting that a professional weaver\knitter website cannot be added as a reference as to what can be doen with the fiber then please kindly explain why the Oomingmak Cooperative website can be listed several times and have direct links to their for profit website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AKwool (talk • contribs) 22:41, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- I removed it because what was said did not match what the source said. Thus it looked like an attempt to promote a particular site. I've fixed the wording to match what is in the source. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 08:59, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you CambridgeBayWeather. I appreciate your willingness to dialog and your input on the article. Your most recent editing makes sense based on what is listed by the source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AKwool (talk • contribs) 23:12, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
This section cannot stand. It is purely a link to a commercial source with an unsubstantiated claim on ability to dye. The other references to a the coop are a matter of fact comments and do not market / spam/ portray a know how, a unique commercial ability etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Bianco (talk • contribs) 18:28, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Regarding revert by Matt Bianco. Firstly, the website that was referenced made a matter of fact statement that qiviut can be dyed without affecting the quality or softness of the fiber. Is the "know how" of a fiber artist who has been working with qiviut for 30 plus years not an acceptable testimony? Since many fiber artists and professional mills have for many years and continue dye qiviut, is it acceptable to say "Many fiber artist and fiber mills dye qiviut and have found methods of dying the yarn which do not damage the fiber". If you find that acceptable, how do you propose I cite this fact without linking to these artists websites or the mills which dye the fiber since these links would be considered "spam" If you insist on removing the information posted that qiviut can and is dyed without damaging the fiber then I propose removing the statement that it can be damaged or reduce softness due to lack of a verifiable reference. The University of Alaska Fairbanks article that is cited to backup that claim links to page which cannot be found. Unless the citation can be fixed I will remove the statement. Please reply on these proposed changes within a few days. If I do not hear from you I will revert your change back to include the information that qiviut can be dyed without damaging it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AKwool (talk • contribs) 21:43, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

sweater value
[edit]@CambridgeBayWeather, I think the value of that sweater is probably quite low -- looks like the photo was uploaded in 2014? Here is what appears to be the same sweater for $1900? Not sure whether that's CAN or US$. valereee (talk) 15:57, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Valereee. Taken and uploaded in 2014. Fixed the image to date the price. She won it in a raffle. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 05:33, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- Wow, that is a nice raffle prize! I'm a knitter myself, and a handknit qiviut sweater! valereee (talk) 14:25, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
