Move the article to new name
[edit]As this railway division is now commonly known by it's new name, the title should now be renamed as Prayagraj railway division Anubhavklal (talk) 00:59, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

- Allahabad railway division → Prayagraj railway division
- Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station → Prayagraj Chheoki Junction railway station
– Would request everyone to kindly refer to Talk:Prayagraj. There had been a detailed discussion about moving Allahabad to Prayagraj. And the consensus was reached in favour of the move. And then it was advised to move similar pages from Allahabad to Prayagraj except for High court since its name wasn't changed. But here we are still having this "historical name" and "common name" discussion for every Prayagraj related page. Shaan Sengupta (talk) 06:31, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- [1] Support the change of the name of the railway division, but the old name must be retained in the lead. Google searches show more hits for "Allahabad railway division" than for "Prayagraj railway division", but the hits for "Allahabad railway division" are for older information than for "Prayagraj railway division".
- [2] Oppose the change of the name of Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station. It is not at all obvious from Google searches that the Prayagraj name is the common English-language name for the station: "Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station", "Prayagraj Chheoki Junction railway station". -- Toddy1 (talk) 09:54, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Even if I search Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station Google shows the name as Prayagraj Chheoki..... And nearly all the articles including Indian Rail Info shows it as PrayagrajShaan Sengupta (talk) 10:23, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- [1] Support Allahabad railway division → Prayagraj railway division
- [2] Oppose Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station → Prayagraj Chheoki Junction railway station
- per arguments above. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:23, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- [1] Support Allahabad railway division to Prayagraj railway division
- [2] Support Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station to Prayagraj Chheoki Junction railway station; Simply saying "Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station" does not exist anymore– It has not existed for years. Are we still having this "historical name" and "common name" discussion for every Prayagraj related page. C'mon let's stop dragging our heels and get on with it already. –JayB91 (talk) 07:38, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- But real life has not done a blanket change. See for example: Thakur, Rajesh Kumar (4 February 2022). "Indian Railways setting up the 'Digital Museums' at 22 oldest and important stations with 11 in UP". The New Indian Express.
In Uttar Pradesh, the railways has decided to set up the digital museums at Lucknow junction, Prayagraj, Etawaha, Vrindavan, Varanasi, Kanpur Central, Agra Cant, Gorakhpur, Rae Bareli Junction, Allahabad Chheoki and the Mathura Junction.
You can see that the common English-language name for one of the stations in Allahabad is now Prayagraj, but Allahabad Chheoki is still Allahabad Chheoki. There is still an Allahabad Cantonment Board[1] and an Allahabad High Court. We need to use common sense and move articles (or not) where appropriate based on evidence.-- Toddy1 (talk) 09:43, 17 July 2023 (UTC)- That is a very selective reference. Also it's from February 2022. Here is article by The Free Press Journal from April 2023 that states the current name – Central Railway adds 68 summer special trains between Mumbai, Varanasi & Danapur– The Free Press Journal "01114 bi-weekly special will leave Banaras at 18.00 hrs on every Thursday and Sunday from 23.04.2023 to 15.06.2023 (17 trips) and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 23.45 hrs next day. Halts: Thane, Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nashik Road, Bhusaval, Khandwa, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Satna, Manikpur and Prayagraj Chheoki". Also the Cantonment Board, University of Allahabad and Allahabad High Court CAN have archaic name than the current name of city. See University of Madras and Bombay High Court for example but here talk is of an active railway station. No one calls Mumbai Central railway station as Bombay Central anymore. –JayB91 (talk) 17:49, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Toddy1 The name of the city, district, division, railway stations and many more are changed. But some of the names like that of the High Court, The University remain unchanged. Here we aren't discussing about them but about division and a railway station. Shaan SenguptaTalk 04:26, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

- Support: Support the move for the reasons mentioned. Discussion, if a healthy debate, is always welcome. But it appears to be only delaying tactics, by reading the reasons from those who are opposing Anubhavklal (talk) 10:45, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- [1] [Nominator] Support: Change Allahabad railway division → Prayagraj railway division. Well why do we need to discuss every name change of Allahabad → Prayagraj related article?

Support: Change all obsolete names on Wikipedia to the official ones issued by the Indian government. I support the government and its promotion of the culture I value. Meowkiti (talk) 07:34, 18 July 2023 (UTC)(WP:SOCKSTRIKE)

- Support both: Allahabad railway division → Prayagraj railway division
- Allahabad Chheoki Junction railway station → Prayagraj Chheoki Junction railway station. As per the evidence/sources given above. — AKSHADĒV™ 💬 02:36, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support both - It has been a very dragged out process where editors try to hold on to the archaic titles for just a few months more at a time, when the public has clearly moved on. For evidence, see the numbers for the past year:Sources for Allahabad Chheoki that dont mention Prayagraj - ZERO [2]
Sources for Prayagraj Chheoki that dont mention Allahabad - 16 [3]Move is quite clearly warranted for both. Captain Jack Sparrow (talk) 18:12, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
